At the beginning of August 2025 I visited the Casey Key tiki bar that is owned by the fish house. I had heard great things about the tiki bar for several weeks so when I flew from VA to FL for a long weekend, I was excited to go. My friend and I were served a drink, and when we were ready for a 2nd one, after watching the lady bar tender waiting on all of her "guy friends" on both sides of us, we raised our money to indicate "hey, we'd like a drink". We were told she could not serve us, that we would have to speak to the bar manager. We were confused as all get out. Then I saw a sign behind the bar that said to the effects"... if you wave us down for a drink, what you will get in a wave back in return". I pointed it out to my friend. She went and spoke to the other woman who was the manager, and she REFUSED to sell us any drinks. Needless to say, we left and gave our green money elsewhere. I would give a zero star rating if I could. I'm sure my review will be deleted since it is so negative, so be it. read more

The 2 week late moving truck just left........we are/were exhausted. No food in the shack and we don't want to cook anything anyway even if we could find the cookware. So we decided to go check out the new neighborhood and enjoy the tropical and wonderful beach/shore atmosphere we moved here for? Multiple recent residents and classmate/friends and numerous over 30 year + resident friends have Casey Key Fish House in their top 10 list. Of note this is not a "dining" spot, its in my very casual "eating" place category. The five star is for food and service as it is for any restaurant but the "experience" is of course different at some of my other restaurants like Per Ce, or Bouchon, or Vedge who gets "extra points" for ambiance, facility, dining experience, etc. like Michelin or TripAdvisor (both of whom I don't contribute to any more) These rating systems have other areas/criteria to score the establishment. On Yelp I just evaluate for Food & Service. Casey Key is top notch in this regard. ........ so the Food & Experience went like this Seated quickly by "Adam"? and the place was exactly as expected. Rustic and authentic back bay beach bum casual. However place settings, utensils, seats and table were clean and "ship shape" (smile) "Eddie" our server was gregarious, swift, made some great suggestions, and we were never waiting or wanting for anything. Had a sense of humor as well from my fractured wit and commentary. I was with the admiral (Gretchen, spouse, girlfriend, mistress) so we got mussels to start and share. Mussel quality was great and "meaty", well cleaned and properly cooked. The white wine and butter w/onions and spice sauce was surely pinning the Lipitor meter on cholesterol.......but worth it!!!! A nicely toasted pair of bread slices allowed us to mop up the sauce!!! Sinful and tasty. My wife got the snapper that came with a homemade almost German-like bacon cabbage/slaw that was tasty and a warmed grape, mango, peaches fruit compote that she thought was a bit odd (or would have preferred cold) but I thought interesting and a bit signature for the dish. We agreed the fruit was good quality and a nice side. The fish was excellent and well prepared. I got the blacken taco and black beans with a little yellow seasoned rice. The filling for the taco of vegetables and lettuce/cabbage and veggies was very nice and the fish was awesome and substantive. A hats off to the chef/cook for not OVERLOADING the tortilla and overwhelming the sandwich and making it impossible to hoist and handle. ( I am a sandwich picker-upper kind of guy and eating a sandwich with utensils seems wacky) This was a very nice lunch. One suggestion is to set/seat the tacos on the rice OR on top of some cabbage or something as the juice from the contents had soggied the second taco by the time I got to and it was a real challenge to keep it together and "manwich" the thing. Not to detract at all this was a great entree....... Less then a mile from our new home, there is a parking spot with my name on it!!!!! I am going to cycle here for sure. Well done! read more

This spot was laid back. Super duper chill- people were hanging out everywhere. They have access to canal we got in and wet our feed. Seen some decent size fishes. They had a live band. We made more friends by the bar. It was just what we needed. Drink were good. We had one and left. Definitely doing this one again. read more

Finally back after Hurricane Milton and better than ever. Delightful friendly service and tasty well prepared dishes. Our fish was fresh and delicious and side were good too. The specially cocktails were also very good but I thought priced a bit steep. Great views and casual atmosphere. We will definitely be back. read more

We went here yesterday based on positive reviews we saw. We didn't have any where near those experiences. The first clue was when we wanted to sit out as far as we could get on the dock. There was one other table(2 tables pushed together) when we arrived. They refused to let us sit there because the 2 tables at the end accommodated one more chair if that. This was around 4 PM and these tables were never seated while we were there. My glass of wine was served in a small cheap plastic cup. I ordered a salad with blackened grouper and my husband ordered one of their seafood specials. My salad reminded me of something taken out of a Publix plastic salad kit bag and the fish was over cooked. I tasted my husband's and it was mediocre. People who were seated after us were all served before we were and they had more in their party. We will move on. Too many other places to choose from. read more

I loved this place for years. Last night a disaster. Waitress handed us our drinks, spilled one and watched me clean the table and told me "good job" Then handed us an appetizer we didn't order. I asked "is this ours?" She replied "well it is now!" She was unable to multiple task. One thing at a time and very disorganized. Party of 6 so auto tip. I normally tip 20 percent or more. Food -- Out of this world. Crab cakes are close to a 10. Ahi tuna entree is enormous and enormously terrific. We've never had anything less than an outstanding meal. Prices -- A little on the high side, but considering the quality, fair. Atmosphere -- Very Informal, a bit noisy inside, very much a party atmosphere. The deck is quite pleasant, with a peaceful view of the Little Sarasota Bay. I wish it had more seating! Service -- Very attentive, especially considering the hustle and bustle. Logistics -- The restaurant (and nearby Tiki bar) is situated right at the west entrance to the swing bridge (built in 1926!) that connects the key to the mainland. When traffic is stopped, you'll have trouble reaching the parking lot or getting in or out of it. However, the experience of dining there is worth the hassle -- don't give up. read more

Came here on a Monday night with friends and family. We had a table of 6 and were seated almost immediately. We shared the conch fritters and all ordered cocktails. The ladies had skinny margaritas and they were delicious. Not too sweet and not too tart. The fritters were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The conch pieces were cubed small so no bites were too chewy. Almost everyone at the table ordered one of the evening's specials. I had the black cod with lobster cream sauce and shrimp. This was AMAZING. The cod was cooked perfectly and the sauce was buttery and delicious. To die for. The green beans and rice pilaf were great. The green beans weren't soggy at all.. they still had a mild crunch. The carrots on the other hand.. we did not love them. Everyone at the table tried them and 4/6 of us agreed they tasted like some kind of commercial cleaner. The server said they're in a ginger marinade or seasoning, I can't recall. I wouldn't have ever guessed that and still think they tasted like fabuloso! The bathroom is small and dimly lit, but had toilet paper and soap. The prices were reasonable. Although we had a fun time with friends the food and service left a lot to be desired. The bar is not a full bar so 2 drinks my friend ordered could not be made so we ordered beer and a margarita (frozen was not an option) The food was "ok" but the crab cakes were not good at all. Some unidentifiable spice was overwhelming and I could bot even pick up the crab taste. The server was a bit impatient with our questions about the options. I had the grouper sandwich and the boss had the cod fish and chips. The blackened grouper sandwich was okay. The bun was not toasted and the tartar sauce was a little bland. The grouper was cooked properly but was underseasoned for me. The coleslaw was pretty tasty. I tried one of the fried fish. It was greasy and had a lot of batter to it. The atmosphere is very laid back and service was good and friendly. This makes up for any shortcomings I might have for this place. For a casual place to take the family of all ages, the menu allows for this to be a spot for all. read more

Our server was nice & took good care of us. We were 3 couples on 3 different checks. I hate to say it but the almost $30 salmon entree I got was horrible & I'm definitely not a fussy eater. It was extremely disappointing. Everyone else's food was just "okay." I didn't complain because I didn't want to ruin dinner. We'll never go back though. I was also surprised that when our checks came out, the gratuity was already included (20%). I'm a generous tipper because I work in the service industry. I usually leave AT LEAST 20% even for bad service &/or food so this wasn't an issue since our server definitely deserved at least that. I was just thrown aback because I've only experienced this when there are large groups & the restaurant usually informs you somehow. I also noticed a sign at the entrance stating that the restaurant would add a 20% tip to unsigned checks but they apparently do it regardless...‍ All in all it was an okay experience with not so good food so I won't be recommending this place to anyone. Overpriced & overrated. An order of greasy garlic peel & eat shrimp (6), an over-battered grouper sandwich, my salmon entree & an iced tea for $87. I've seriously eaten better salmon at IHOP for $13. read more

We swear there is a highly trained chef running this kitchen because the food is so far beyond the pale of what one usually finds at a fish camp.
