Pleasantly surprised with the service, food, live music... wish I lived closer, I'd be here all the time! Really enjoyed the mellow one-man show... played kind of a yacht rockish setlist, but he sang, played guitar and was right up my alley. This is an extension of the Captain Curt's right across the road, but 2 totally separate entities. You'll get part of the Captain Curt's menu, lots of drink options, live music of course and great service. I had beer - the Graffiti Orange (S7vth Sun), it was in the can, but poured in a cup and was brought nice size chunks of orange to enhance it. I ordered the grouper basket, it turned out to be like big fish sticks. They were good. And others ordered the friend pickles (in spears - not chips) and a few other things that I didn't get pics of, but they enjoyed it. We came here day one for some drinks and chowder with friends so the wife and I came back tonight. I had the clam chowder again and it was even better. This is the best NE clam chowder I have had. I also had the fried file fish and WOW!!! My wife had the Cuban and it was legit. The servers we've had both times were great. Have to love the location on the gulf. The service was great considering how busy it was. It's a cool tourist family place no doubt. I got a cheeseburger and fries and me lady got the shrimp and fries . I have to give both I think what we ordered was frozen food the shrimp where breaded but that was soft and not much flavor the burger WELL there's a lot better products out there in burger land BUT the bun was banging and the bud light was delish and thirst quenching. I can highly recommend stopping by the Sniki Tiki for cold drinks on a hot day. It's mostly an open air bar with a scaled down version of the Captain Curt's menu. Even during a torrential downpour our servers were quick, friendly, and attentive. They have a couple of beers made specifically for them, a Tiki wheat and a red. The wheat was great. They also have a wide variety of daquiris that can even be taken to go for a cold drink on a hot day on the beach. The daquiris all come in souvenir cups so it would be nice if they offered another option since we ended up with way too many which will ultimately be in a landfill. read more

Sad to give bad reviews, but avoid this place (at least when it's not busy, like when we were there). We came in a few minutes after 4, when staff were trickling in for the shift change. David did greet us with a smile, but only after we had to ask a manager if we had a server assigned to us. Service only got less after that. At one point, there were 4-5 servers sitting at the next table over (one holding a bag of ice to her jaw, like she'd been punched?!?!), chatting away like there were no customers. They seemed more interested in catching up with each other than working. The clam chowder was good, but it came before our beverages. We sat outside at the Sniki Tiki portion I believe. There is the sniki tiki and then yet another portion of the restaurant across the way that is all part of Captain Curt's. The smell emanating from the restaurant, the tiki appearance, the outside camper stage, and budda all screamed charm. We ordered the banana breeze and the pineapple margarita to start. Our server Kelsey was top notch with great personality and patience putting up with our banter and questions throughout. They were both good and had good kick. They were made well. Not overly sweet. We also ordered the clam chowder (had to compare to New England chowder from a famous Rhode Island hot spot being from New England myself), peel and eat shrimp, and grouper. All were reported to be fresh daily. The grouper and the tarter that is made daily was phenomenal. Nice flavor. Not overly greasy. So good. The shrimp omg is totally tasty and tender and a nice change from the typical frozen stuff up north. The clam chowder was a real winner and I will talk about it for eternity. It is by far the best I ever had. So full of clams. So flavorful. I am getting more before I leave. It's so worth it. Sorry New England! Florida is doing it better! read more

We visited about six weeks ago and had a great time. This is a relaxed and fun spot with a scaled down menu similar to Captain Curt's, but lots of outdoor and bar-style seating. I didn't realize this was the Ohio State booster hub; as it turns out, my wife is a huge Buckeye fan, so this was serendipitous. We had a great time enjoying the game with the other Ohio State fans, service was friendly and happy to keep the beverages flowing. I had a delicious clam chowder (Curt's is honestly the best I've had) and we split some big ol' peel and eat shrimp and a file fish sandwich. This evening at 515 we brought are 5 year old grand daughter to dinner we ordered drinks and dinners. We said fine we would leave and not come back, he said we don't care we have so much business it does not matter! I could not believe how rude he was.Terrbile Customer service. Don't come here for the food. If all you want is cheap drinks and a dive-y vibe, then this is a fine spot to cut loose and get into a bit of trouble. But there's not an item on the menu that will provide you with any sort of proper nourishment. It's almost impossible to find an item that isn't deep fried. And as for their 1st place, award winning New England clam chowder, I would like to see evidence of this award because this chowder is among the worst I've ever tasted. It's loaded with clams, but otherwise flavorless. I question the judgment of anyone who would call this chowder award winning, let alone crown it 1st place, If you just want a dive to get wasted at, the place feels like a care free good time. Attended here new years eve to watch the band "Midnight Mama" perform and they absolutely made the entire evening! This would have been less than a 3-star experience without the great live music. My fiance & I began the evening with the strawberry/pinata colada frozen daiquiri blend and other reviews were spot on... they do not properly blend these. Pure rum at the bottom on the first few sips then just a slushie. Little disappointed with that. Had a local IPA beer off the menu which was very good. The calamari or the clam basket wasnt anything to write home about, with its taste & texture leading me to believe it was nothing close to fresh. Maybe freshly fried but even the marinara dipping sauce was most likely pre-frozen since it was still cold in the middle. Being from new England, born & raised, I took it as a challenge to judge this "world champion" clam chowder... first thought... must have been the world champion back in the 90s because I wouldn't be bragging about this back up north. There is certainly a good clam to potatoe ratio, at least 3:1 (clams to potatoes) but overall flavor, consistency of the chowder & size of the clams in it (all diced up super small which could just be pre-packaged clams based on the lack of quality taste) didnt live up to the hype of what the menu raved of it to be. Overall this was still a very fun time celebrating new years eve with my fiance & friends. For a dive bar, this really is a nice spot close to the beach and right along a main strip in Sarasota close to hotels and other touristy attractions. read more
