Our initial impressions of David, the owner, were positive as he seemed trustworthy and knowledgeable. Wow, were we duped. From start to finish the backyard project took over a year to finish. Our backyard project was not big. This was an extremely stressful process as we had to check up on the work throughout; at points we went months without any work being done and David always had an excuse. Admittedly, we didn't have all the final decisions made prior to the start and things were fluid at times but there was always work that could have been done which didn't happen unless we pushed. With the amount we paid we thought the owner would have been more helpful with design but were left to do research and find/look at materials ourselves. We had to withhold payments because work wasn't being done despite being pestered and payments demanded from the owner. Numerous times we had to have conversations regarding progressive payments being demanded by the owner despite lack of work being performed. The only thing that motivated the owner to get back to work was us withholding payment. The owner clearly had too many projects and not enough workers resulting in the customer suffering which we heard from one of the workers was an issue with his other jobs too. We had a large landscaping company come out while we had one of the long breaks in work and pointed out many issues and stated they would've completed the job in 3 weeks. It was exhausting and stressful to have to inspect every aspect of the job and find subpar work being performed/corners being cut. An issue we still have is drainage, which we questioned the owner about prior to finishing the project but were assured it wouldn't be an issue. We trusted him but again learned the hard way not to. We are going to have to hire another company to fix the lake that arrives in the middle of our backyard when a large rain occurs. Our project was expensive and his bid was on the high side compared with others so needless to say we expected much better. read more

After months of research and meeting with local landscapers, we hired Cascading Falls to completely re-landscape our tired, neglected front yard. Owner/landscaper David Shelly expertly guided us through a transformation that began with our rudimentary sketch of design ideas and ended with a lush, vibrant, welcoming outdoor space ideal for both relaxing and entertaining. We appreciated David's collaborative approach to tackling what could have been an overwhelming project for us: removing existing vegetation and hardscape; installing irrigation and drainage, driveway and courtyard pavers, large moss rocks, and a dry riverbed; constructing terraced cultured stone retaining walls and a stone staircase; amending and tilling soil; and planting low water native plants. David managed the project in stages, allowing us the flexibility to make decisions about design, materials, and vegetation as the landscaping evolved. Experienced in outdoor design as well as hard and soft scaping, David provided tailored options for construction materials and zone-appropriate vegetation. He did much of the work himself and was a stickler for details such as the placement and patterning of pavers. When his crew (who were professional and hard-working) were on site, he came out often to check on work quality and progress. David ensured we were all on the same page by listening closely to our ideas, setting clear expectations in written estimates, and promptly responding to our questions and concerns. Even after completing the project, he followed up on unexpected issues including applying protective coating to the retaining walls to address leeching and replacing struggling plants. They came by the house and spent about half an hour to walk around and look at what I wanted to do in the front and backyards, and told me they would have an estimate in 2 to 3 weeks. After a month passed, I called their office and asked for an update on the estimate and got no call back. I also emailed them through Yelp and asked for a follow up on the estimate, again no response. So disappointing. **Addendum** Interesting that after weeks of trying to get in touch, the minute I leave a bad review, suddenly I exist again! I got a defensive response from the owner about how busy he is. I'm sorry but everyone works long hours these days, and if you need help, pay someone to help you! At first glance, our backyard still looks great, but upon closer inspection you'll find that our two-year-old artificial grass appears much older and was not installed properly. Unfortunately, when agreeing to do the work in our yard, they did not feel the need to contract out the grass portion (despite admitting that they had little experience with artificial grass installation) as they did with the concrete and we're the ones who are paying for it. We recently had a specialist come out to let us know the cost of correcting the issues we're seeing and were informed that it would be a significant amount of money to 'repair' but that he wouldn't recommend doing so as it would be (in his opinion) a waste of money. The materials used are not standard for artificial grass installation which is why we have visible seams and the grass is not sitting properly. My husband tried calling a couple times in the last two to three months with no response, so we've decided to cut our losses. While we are happy with the layout of our yard and the patio completed by Western Concrete, we would recommend seeking out an expert if installing artificial grass. read more

My husband and I moved into our house 4 years ago and knew eventually we wanted to redo our backyard. Cascading Falls was the perfect company for us to go with for this project. Not only was David and all of his team super easy to work with but they did a lot of work at our house in a timely manner that I felt was beyond what we could've asked for. Our entire yard was demoed within a couple of days to include taking out massive palm trees, and removing all of the debris from an out of ground spa and prior pebble tech and stone on the ground, and then leveling the ground to make way for new concrete. We then had the entire yard reworked for irrigation and electrical, fresh seamless concrete poured, turf and sod put in, and our pool fountain redone to balance the yard out and give the pool a nice fresh look. The concrete job was impressive especially around the pool area. It looks beautiful. At the end of the project. David's team even fixed our pool tiles that happened to fall off in the process. When it was time to pick plants, David himself went to the nursery and brought us samples of plants that he felt would look great and grow best in our yard. This was the most valuable part of working with Cascading Falls because plants are not cheap and David worked with us to stay in budget and really make our yard what we hoped it would be. At the end of every day, David's team would hose off the street and make sure everything was left in good condition for our surrounding neighbors to not be bothered by the dust and what not from our project. They did a front yard project for us 2021, and we were very happy with the results. Since then we moved to a different house. We called CF to request a bid for landscaping at our new home. Left message on owner's voicemail, including that we hired them in the past. No call back. Tried to arrange a bid via "contact us" on the website. I reached out at least 3 times, no response. We were disappointed at this lack of response. We moved on. They did good work for us before, 5 stars, but their failure to respond to our request for bid on a new project is why it's only 3 stars now. Not even a communication that their schedule for bids on new work is so busy as to be delayed. No response is not good enough. read more

Our project was for new home backyard leveling, patio, walkways, shed pad, garden boxes, artificial turf, electrical outlets, drains, water lines, irrigation, tree planting. The plants and bark we are doing ourselves. Cascading Falls brought in the right equipment for the job! Bobcats scraped out a truck load of excess clay soil, regraded for proper drainage. Great soil was brought in and tilled deep. Garden boxes are built to withstand years of use 2" by 12" redwood 24" high. This review is long overdue, just kind of got put on the back burner since having a baby! Dave and company have done an amazing job on our front yard. We had very specific ideas in mind and he was able to work with us and make everything seamless and remain as low maintenance as possible, all while using his wealth of knowledge and experience to offer great suggestions on plants and materials. We have a corner lot and some excavating and grading was involved to get the river bed look we wanted but it only took him and his crew about a week to complete. When we had specific issues with our flag stone pathway he was more than welcome to come fix the issue and able to complete other requests that came up during work on the yard (removing unwanted stumps). All in all a great experience. He had warned us he was incredible busy, and it has been especially hard to get him back to do our backyard, but if you are able to get something on his books he will definitely make sure your project looks great. read more

Cascading Falls landscaped our back yard last spring 2018. Because of weather the project lasted from the end of February until the beginning of April. It was a big project that involved earth movement, drainage, irrigation, patio, retaining wall, sod, and rock/shredded cedar. David was very responsive and did a great job keeping us up to date on the progress and next steps. The crews that worked on our yard were very professional and courteous. They were quick to fix any concerns we had. After the project was finished, they came back to fix a couple irrigation issues and checked another time to make sure everything was working. I found Dave very polite and patiently listened to my statement of work. I talked to other landscape contractors but found Dave's bid to be most fair. Dave and his team were prompt, efficient (they did not seem to even go on break, just continued to work!!) and delivered on the SOW. I thought that there was an issue about a sprinkler and had to contact Dave back. He looked at it the very next day (and it was raining then!) and looked into my concern. David and his team at Cascading Falls are FANTASTIC!! My fiance and I desperately needed to re-landscape the front and back yard at our new home. This is our first home and as first time home buyers quickly learn, home ownership is expensive!! We were finally able to save up some money and were excited to turn our nondescript, dying yard into something we could truly enjoy (and would hopefully increase the value of our home!). I called David along with two other highly recommended landscaping companies. I relied only on YELP when determining who to use. Right off the bat, I got a good feeling from David. He arrived to our house on time for our meeting (unlike one contractor who was 30 minute late without a phone call or explanation). He was the only one who had a vision for our yard. He was able to listen to what we wanted and creatively reinvented our yard. Out of all the landscapers I interviewed, he was the only one who had the technical understanding I was looking for (I'm a mechanical engineer so I knew a few questions to ask) as well as the creativity and plant knowledge I needed (I know nothing when it comes to gardening). We started work very quickly and my finance and I were more than pleased with David's crew. They were professional, courteous, hardworking and friendly! They arrived on time (if not early) and always completed exactly what they were scheduled to complete (if not more!). We re-did our entire front yard: removed everything, re-did irrigation, re-located water hookup, drainage, added a new timer, new sod, new plants, flagstone path, small foot bridge, cement curbing, lighting, etc. It really was "the works". I was very concerned that we were going to go over budget but David kept us on budget down to the dollar. I was extremely appreciative of that as I know budgets creep up very quickly! That being said, David and his crew weren't willing to cut any corners. They take great pride in their work and the results really show. They spent more time and effort than I expected and now we have the best looking yard in the neighborhood. We did not have enough money set aside to do the front and back yard simultaneously but will 100% be using David again this time next year to finish the back yard. I can't imagine using anyone else! If you are in the market for a landscaper - it is most definitely worth it to give David a call. Dave was a huge help in taking care of a condition of sale for our house in very short notice! Angie's list SnapFix got us in touch on Sunday and we scheduled work for Wednesday. Initial quote - remove and replace 600 sq ft of sod. Upon arrival, he called and sent photos of problems that prevented us from starting. The sprinkler system had very poor water pressure, the grass was uncut, the edges were not graded down to be flush with the concrete, and the sprinklers were not the correct length to get correct coverage. He mowed the lawn, fixed the water pressure (water main was recently repaired and not opened completely), fixed the grading, replaced the sprinklers, and picked up additional sod at a hardware store (my estimate was low). Every step of the way, Dave called and emailed photos of the problem and progress. It was fantastic! He knew what I wanted and gave excellent suggestions on what was needed. I was in Virginia when the work was being done, so this was a very big help. Paid by PayPal, which was convenient for not being there, but the added 4% on the invoice could have gone better with perhaps depositing into their company checking account at their bank. I was a little nervous to have so much done at once but they were really flexible about the changes I made to my plant order and went over all of my questions and concerns. I just want to start by saying that this review isn't for quality of work, it is for professionalism in getting back to people who want to hire you. I first contacted Cascading Falls (David) on 2/13/17 through Yelp requesting a quote and sent pictures. I didn't get a response from him that day to set up an appointment so I re email through his web site the next day. I got a response with a quote that evening. I thought it odd that he didn't want to come out a look at the job. I had another company coming out for a quote so I was going to wait and contact the company I want to hire. After that process was done I decided on Cascading Falls due to their great yelp reviews and contacted David on 2/27 to come out and see the job, measure and look at some additional work I wanted done. He contacted me back and said the quote he gave me was good and firm. Again, I thought it strange he didn't want to come see the job, but he had good Yelp reviews so I proceeded. On 3/1 I said I want to hire him for Mid April and I sent a detailed message on exactly what I needed to have done so that we were on the same page as well as details on the additional work I wanted done along with pictures. I waited. On 3/7 I sent a reminder to check that he got my email as I hadn't heard from him. On 3/8 he said he got it and had been busy with taxes but was finishing that night and would get a quote to me. On 3/15 he asked for my email address. And here we sit...3/23 and no quote. About a week ago I decided that if this is the way this company conducts a quote what would they be like if I gave them the job? Would they show up? Would I have to always chase them down? No thank you. So I've wasted more than a month on this company and now I'm in a crunch and starting over again. If they didn't want the job the should have just said so I didn't waste my valuable time. read more

I setup appointments with at least 7 different landscape companies. I had a fairly large project that included removing old drought tolerant landscaping and replacing with grass, installing sprinklers in my front yard as well as adding an extension to my driveway. The backyard was a mixture of grass for a dog run as well as adding plants and drip systems to several planter areas after having a pool installed. The last was moving approximately 6 yards of cobbles onto an 8' tall sloped hill. David was the first landscaper that I saw. David discussed my project at length and explained different options and gave me numerous suggestions. Before David left I had a hand written estimate. I met with the rest of the landscape companies who all promised estimates within the next 7-10 days. I only received 3 back. The 3 estimates I received were all considerably higher and were for less work than what David quoted. Throughout the process David kept me well informed and his workers were respectful and did an amazing job. During the process I made several changes which David handled without any issues.
