She moved her gallery to Coral Gables in the early 80's and was a major factor in starting the first monthly gallery nights in greater Miami. That's right folks, Wynwood didn't start shyt. Virginia is extremely approachable as is her husband and they usually have the artist in house to answer any and all questions. The latest artist that was showing here was Leslie Lew. She shared with the Yibbies a story behind a painting she did in the early 80's while she lived above a botanica on Broadway. Let me repeat that. A botanica I'm the middle of Manhattan on Broadway. Times have changed. If you do happen to come by on a First Friday know that they will have some kind if white wine, never red. Red spills where you least expect it. Basel pieces can be expensive, but the value often lies in the eye of the beholder. Staff were friendly ushering in people. This year I felt they did a great job activating a really fun looking bar space. On preview night, the crowds weren't bad but I expect the traffic to be insane on the weekend as it was last year.

The main art show at the convention center can be overwhelming with how large it is but this one was on a smaller scale yet it was still as impressive. The only thing I did not like is when we purchased a drink at a nearby bar, the person automatically added her tip. I didn't appreciate this but I didn't want to say anything because I wanted to continue to have a great time. I will definitely try to return to this art show in the future as I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the art and talking to the artist's representation about it.
