I booked Riddims Junkanoo Band in April 2026 for my July 18, 2026, 50th birthday milestone…read morecelebration. I intentionally booked several months in advance to secure my event date and selected the 10-12 band member package because I wanted to create a memorable cultural experience for my guests. My performance time was scheduled for 9:30 p.m., and I made it clear from the beginning that this time was not flexible because it was coordinated with the overall flow of the evening. Throughout the planning process, communication was responsive, and I had no concerns leading up to the event. Unfortunately, on the day of the event, I was asked to submit the final payment earlier that day, although we had originally agreed that final payment would be made upon the band's arrival. Later that evening, my MC informed me that Rick had advised the band would not arrive until approximately 11:00 p.m., about 90 minutes after the agreed performance time. By the time the band arrived, many of my guests had already left, which meant they missed the 10-12 member Junkanoo experience I had carefully planned and invested in months in advance. Because my event began at 7:00 p.m., the performance occurred near the end of the evening, significantly impacting the timeline and guest experience that had been discussed and agreed upon beforehand. To their credit, the performers who arrived brought great energy. The female dancer was especially engaging, and the guests who remained thoroughly enjoyed the performance. In fact, some guests who were preparing to leave turned around and came back inside when they saw the band lining up outside. I genuinely appreciate the enthusiasm and entertainment they provided once they arrived. However, for milestone celebrations, weddings, anniversaries, or other events where timing and guest flow are critical, punctuality is just as important as performance quality. In my opinion, a delay of a few minutes is understandable, but a 90-minute delay after an agreed-upon performance time is not. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company for events where adherence to a scheduled timeline is an important part of the overall guest experience.

This is an informal community get-together, served cafeteria-style. Everyone is incredibly friendly. And, for the type of mostly fried food they offer, it's really tasty... good comfort food. The club has indoor and outdoor seating, with large round group tables. You're certain to strike up an interesting conversation with your table mates. Later in the evening they have a live local band ... I and my family find the volume too loud for the small space, and usually when the band starts there will be an exodus of others like us (there's usually conversation around this ... "gotta finish before the band starts!"). I'm sure as many people enjoy the band and appreciate the space we've left! This is a little hidden corner of the Springs that I recommend as a nice easy event to attend some first Sunday! Double check signage on the Miami Springs circle for times.

Hands on Miami has been an amazing discovery for me…read more I have been a regular volunteer since January- giving me plenty opportunities to get involved with the community. But while i have always had a desire to volunteer and get involved, i also had a fear of the commitment entailed and the complications that might arise out of my already busy schedule. What is so perfect about Hands On is that it's a flexible volunteering model with no long term commitments, no background checks, no frills or complicated processes. I simply went on the site, found an activity of interest, which to me was working with teens and/or kids and signed up for a specific date. I've been hooked ever since- volunteering my time every month at Miami Bridge- an emergency youth shelter for abused, neglected and abandoned teens ages 10 to 17 and I love it. Every activity is assigned a project leader who takes responsibility for the group and can be a resource on that day for help with directions, etc... I can honestly say it's been a wonderful resource for me in finding ways to get involved and make a difference. Definitely check them out at handsonmiami.org and sign up for an event.

The best item I scored was this long 80's leather poncho that can easily be worn as a dress.
