I've been here for dinner a few times, and it's always been a good experience, especially for the price. Last time I got the paella valenciana, and it was so big that the leftovers were plenty for the next day too! The ambiance is perfect for a nice dinner without having to dress up too formally. The servers are also very attentive, and we got some complimentary soup that was pretty yummy! This time, I got the chorizo appetizer and the octopus (which I think is usually on the daily specials menu). The chorizo was a little too salty/crispy for my taste, but the octopus was phenomenal. It was perfectly cooked and just flavorful enough without overpowering the taste of the octopus. I also got a creme brulee for dessert, which was pretty good!

Went there oct-16-25 for dinner. Ordered grill salmon and filet mignon. Grilled salmon was not grilled. It was fried and it was so oily it was disgusting. filet mignon was a burnt piece of meat that must've been cooked and returned several times from tables previous to being served to us we mentioned it to the waiter, and they were very apologetic. They offered to charge us for the drinks only I told them we were not looking for anything free, but they insisted so. We only paid for the drinks, but this place is a dive. I would never go back there again they have the audacity to serve that garbage to their customers . we only had a couple of bites each of our food. It really was not edible and I have photos to prove it..

Came here for lunch and the food was amazing, the food was on point and fresh, and the ambiance was enjoyable. I believe we ordered a paella valenciana, a fish dish (i forgot the name), and almejas en salsa verde. We had complimentary soup free of charge. Everything was tasty and in big portion. We had more food than we could eat. I believe next time we come here will order less. Overall, this place is amazing for lunch. There is a private parking lot, so no need to worry about finding street parking : )

Fresh Portuguese rolls. Crusty and tasty.

Just up from Florida and I needed a good Spanish food fix so I stopped in Newark's Ironbound and parked at Casa Vasca. The seafood was fresh and the sangria tangy. Their home made flan topped off the meal and a snifter of 43 finished the experience with class. When you go, on site parking if you get there early enough. And the Portuguese rolls are wonderful.

This place is like home! Service is very good and the staff were very friendly! Food is also amazing! We've had the empanadas, almejas and the lenguado a la francesa. Can't wait to come back!

Salmon Steak, Shrimp and Clams in a green sauce-Delicious!!!!

When you want delicious food, an atmosphere that is warm and cozy, and service that is swift and caring, Casa Vasca is the place to be. We have come here numerous times and have never been disappointed. Maria makes sure that everything runs smoothly. Tonight we had some of our usuals, Pork Chops in Garlic Sauce, Chicken in Garlic Sauce, Skirt Steak, and Sirloin. Tonight we added in the special Salmon Steak, Shrimp, and Clams in a green sauce-DELICIOUS!!!!!

What a little hidden gem this place is! Definitely a more family style restaurant with extremely reasonable pricing. Everyone at my table (party of 4) ordered our own entrées which we would of been totally fine probably ordering 2 and just sharing. Portions are pretty big for the price you pay, I'd recommend sharing some main dishes rather than everyone getting their own plate. Food was very flavorful and delicious. You get a complimentary soup and bread with your meal and both are extremely delicious. Went in to this place not really knowing what I was getting into but WOW I wasn't disappointed. Had a great experience here!

The undiscovered gem to most, and maybe because the location is quite an inconvenience in terms of traffic. Parking is not a problem though since they have their own parking lot! Now as to food, ambience and service. Triple A for all three categories. The servers are all friendly and respectful. The food was and is always phenomenal. We had gambas, callos, seafood paella, bacalao and the desserts that were all mouth-watering! The soup and the rolls to start with were so fresh and delicious. Ambience is great if you want a not-so-quiet dinner. You'll see one table for two, and another table for a family gathering. or a party of friends. This place is worth going to again and again. Now if only traffic wasn't so bad in Newark!

    Potato leek soup

One our favorite Spanish / Portuguese spots in Newark. They have a nice European feel and the food and service are terrific. One thing they do which is unique is that each meal comes with a free bowl of the soup of the day and they are always delicious.

Nice spot to hit up by the Prudential Center, "Ironbound" section of Newark. This Spanish restaurant offers "Basque" cuisines more geared towards fish and shellfish. What makes it a great place is the authentic meals, and freshness of the ingredients including the seafood. I stopped in for pre-game drinks and appetizer, and did not stay for a full dinner. They have a small bar section located on the side of the restaurant which had 3-4 small tables of 4 seats per table. You can also sit at the small bar to dine. There was 1 TV where you could watch some sports. The fresh rolls that came out hot were very delicious. I was able to break it apart easily, and use to dip into my appetizer dish. The grilled baby squid marinated in oil and garlic was that good. Had to incorporate the bread to wipe the plate, and get every last drop of those flavors. It came along with a side of some plain boiled potatoes. In this section of Newark parking can be tough. You may have to park a block or two, maybe few away and walk to this restaurant. You can also pay a fee to park in one of the lots nearby. Depending if there is a sporting event in the Prudential Center the price for parking may be higher than normal. This restaurant is definitely worth the visit if you're interested in fresh seafood cooked up in an authentic Spanish style with great flavors. I will definitely come back for a full dine-in experience as the menu had a lot to offer.

Yes, they do have seating at the bar. They also have tables near the bar. But it's a bit tight, which is why I prefer going during the week.

BARRIGUITA- plentiful serving for a tapa, we loved the potatoes it came with too CHICHARRON DE POLLO- flavorful chicken and easier to eat than you think TARTAR- delish but small Chipirones- sooo delicately breaded you can barely tell, was great COSTILLA A LA PLANCHA- plentiful for a tapa, we recommend cooking for longer since its traditionally a tough cut of beef SAUTED VEGETABLES- tastey and not mushy thankfully! The food was absolutely amazing really flavorful and well done. Just be a little prepared that most dishes come in smaller portions. But the quality definitely makes up for it. I ordered the paella, and it's easily enough for two or even three people and it was well worth it. Really delicious. The drinks were also definitely worth trying while you're there. The only thing I wasn't big on was the desserts they didn't quite live up to the rest of the meal. But overall, great atmosphere, excellent food, and a fun experience. I'd definitely come back.

We all enjoyed it. My hubby got pork chops and I got grilled cod special, delicious. My son and his girlfriend had sirloin and New York steak. The steak was cooked as ordered but seasoning was not really happening and it took a while to cut up the NY steak. So when my son was about halfway done, he went to add more salt and pepper. The pepper shaker top fell off and spilled all over his steak. We told one of the bus boys and he put the cap on like we asked, "How do we put this back on?" And walked away. I asked for a manager and they cooked him another steak so they made up for it. The reason for the 4 stars is the taste of the steak. Expensive but not tasty. Place was nice and again they did make the pepper incident up. Nice experience but not good enough to want to go back. I'll try another one in the area if we are ever there again. But would recommend to try it maybe your experience will be different.

You then walk up the stairs to get to the host. It is a little bit confusing the first time you visit. There is also an option to go downstairs to another party area. There is a very small ladies room by the host. But, if there is a long wait. There is a larger ladies room downstairs. This is important to know if you are in a rush to get to your show. You will be seated when your entire party has arrived. Another good thing to know for planning. There were four of us and both couples decided to split a picture of Red sangria, the chorizo, appetizer, 2 pork chops and garlic sauce entrees and 2 vegetarian paellas. The chorizo was fine. The complementary bread could have been better (not warm, and not what I am used to at this kind of restaurant), but was ok. The pork chops were excellent! The vegetarian paella was good. They actually worked very well together. We were also served fried thin slices of potatoes and broccoli and carrots. The coffee was fabulous as was the limoncello mascarpone cake. Service was excellent and the ambiance in the dining room was busy but nice. If you are going to a show, you can park in the lot on the left and pay $16 for the night. It's a quick 5-10 minute walk to the NJ PAC.

It's a perfect spot for a pre-game or pre-event meal with a welcoming moderate ambiance (i.e., cloth tablecloths but jeans-friendly). I had the Garlic Chicken Cutlet entree ($34), a very generous serving of four pieces of tender, boneless chicken breast smothered in a bright, savory lemon garlic sauce, served alongside "Spanish fries" (which are actually delicious house-made potato chips) and fresh collard greens. It was incredibly tasty and very filling, with enough leftovers for lunch the next day! My dining companion went with the Garlic Shrimp entree ($35), paired with the "Spanish fries" and steamed veggies. She absolutely loved it.. noting that the shrimp were cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. To wash it all down, we each had a glass of the house special red sangria. It was fantastic -- bright, fruity, and clearly made with fresh ingredients rather than a sugary mix. Yum! PRO TIP #1: Bring cash. Chateau of Spain has added a 4% surcharge for credit card payments. PRO TIP #2: Check your bill. A 15% gratuity is automatically included on all checks. Our server was great and explicitly pointed this out to avoid any confusion, but keep it in mind when calculating an extra tip.

My step mother could not stop raving about the food, so when she came to visit again, we took her back. To start, we had red sangria and I think we went through 3-4 pitchers as a table. To start we had calamari and chorizo which comes flambéed, which is an awesome spectacle! We also ordered styles of paella, grilled shrimp Mozambique style - which is what I typically order, and my husband ordered one of the specials for the night, cordon blue which was To DIE FOR! Tops Diner, the (historic) Clark Thread factory (closed for decades and currently being made into a housing complex which is going to be insane for this area) and... Pic-Nic. (East Newark should be absorbed into Harrison, but I'll keep my nose out of zoning and redistricting and stick to the job at hand...) The sangria? Delicious. (But worth $30 a pitcher?) And only finding out when the bill arrived and we'd ordered two... ouch! The garlic shrimp appetizer? Yeah, still the best in the biz. (The sauce alone is worthy of a darn Michelin star.) We were a party of seven. We had a bit of everything when it came to the entrees. My chicken dish - brilliant. (The star might've been those roasted potatoes swimming in a delicious brown-garlic sauce.) The other adults all seemed to really love their dishes, too. But we need to discuss my kids' food. They're varsity athletes that run 8-10 miles a day. They were hungry and bragged about how much food they were about to put away. The older twin tried paella (for the very first time) and about halfway through? He had to quit. (But he really dug all the various seafood and proteins mixed in the saffron-infused yellow rice served in a tiny Portuguese cauldron of sorts.) The younger twin? Obsessed with steak. He ordered the "Beef à Pic-Nic" and... okay, anyone know the YouTuber 'Beard Meets Food' that travels the world to attempt ridiculous food challenges? That's what arrived at our table. Easily the most amount of food I ever saw that was technically for just one person. He went to work and eventually said, "Dad. Please do not make me breakfast or lunch tomorrow." (something I never heard before - all because he was THAT full right now) I looked over at his dish and... it didn't even look like he put a dent in it. When we asked for doggy-bags the two workers seemed to chuckle that we 'failed' the mission at hand. All things considered: the bill wasn't too bad for the amount of (tasty) food. (Overlooking the alcohol portion, of course!) Cool workers all around. Restaurant looks good. They have a (mighty small) lot and there's some street parking (if you're lucky). Recommended, for sure.
