First of all, the menus. Absolutely disgusting, the menu I received was caked in grime. It had some weird substance that looked like boogers. I put my menu down and asked for my grandmothers, it too had weird grime on it. Nasty. Secondly, the chips we received were stale, the salsa was great though. I ordered a Beef Quesadilla without beans, the rice that came with it was pretty good, but a little overcooked, solid 7/10. The Quesadilla itself, very crispy, an absurd amount of beef, and too little cheese. 6/10. The restaurant itself felt like a small step into Mexico, really nicely set up for the small space they had to work with, the waiters were all working very hard and being very friendly, one called me his "Amigo" lol. No complaints there. The tables were clean, however every table was absolutely plastered in sponsorships and ads, ruining the vibe of the place. Overall I had a somewhat enjoyable experience, despite immediately being disgusted upon opening my menu, it was good. I do wonder what their kitchen could possibly look like if thats what the menus looked like, probably very nasty. On a scale of 1-10 I would rate this restaurant a max of 6 on a good day, however when I was there, it was a 5/10 read more

Have never been disappointed in the food or service in this Mexican restaurant. Come at more off times as it's always packed at lunch or dinner regular hours. An extensive menu of many choices you would expect to see but food comes out piping hot, fresh, ample and delicious. Another good meal here. It had been awhile since our last visit but I'm pleased to say that it was still a delicious dinner. The combo fajitas are my go to - love the variety of veggies along with chicken, beef and shrimp. My husband loves the carnitas. Our service was good. This is the best Mexican restaurant in Waterloo. And, their salsa is my absolute favorite! The salsa: just the right amount of heat and it has a Smokey flavor. Plus, the amount of cilantro is perfect; not too much or too little. Consistency is also perfect! I usually get the shrimp tacos or the pollo con arroz. All of their street tacos are awesome. They're good sized tacos with good sides of beans or corn and rice. The pollo con arroz is excellent. It's rice with chicken and cheese sauce and vegetables. Love it! Casa Romero is one of the best places in Southern Illinois to get Mexican food! I've been coming here for years, before they expanded the building to accommodate more guests a few years ago. I've never had a bad experience. Never had a bad dish, drink, or long wait time. Servers are always so kind and hospitable. The salsa is our favorite and sometimes we come here just for that! The regular margarita is my favorite, and the husband loves their Mexican beer selection. We stopped here on our way through Waterloo this afternoon. Since it's Taco Tuesday, we were hoping for a new place to try. As far as we could tell, the restaurant seems fairly new, and they were very busy, even after the normal lunch time. However, we were disappointed that they didn't seem to have any specials advertised. Nor do they have many vegetarian options on the menu. Service was quick, and our meals were hot. However, everything we had was extremely salty. I had the spinach enchiladas, and my friend had the lunch Chile Rilleno, which was very greasy and soggy. We were served chips and very good salsa when we were seated. The most surprising thing was that they don't serve iced tea, only sodas and alcoholic drinks! Food was good but service was terrible. Unfortunately it was bad enough that we will not go back. Once we got our food the waiter never came back, we couldn't even wave him down to get more water, a to go box or even our check. We went to the counter to pay and had to stand there for 5 minutes while 3 employees seemed to be arguing and not even seeing us.
