Linda got her standard chimichangas, rice and beans. Everything came out hot, and it was all delicious. Place was busy as heck and they handled it like a champ. Wait staff was great, fast but also friendly. The kitchen did a great job getting food out quickly, while hot. It was just a great choice to come to Casa Ramirez for Cinco de Mayo. Listennnn, this is a hidden gem. Good parking, well manicured outside with a brightly decorated inside. We were innediately seated and waited on by Laura who is an absolute sweetheart. Out dinner consisted of chille relleno (very flavorful) filled with cheese, lightly battered and smothered in that delicious sauce...fajita burrito filled with chicken---perfectly seasoned, veggies and covered with cheese...and a seafood quesadilla filled with cheese, imitation crab then grilled and served with salad on the side. I love this place, a true authentic Mexican restaurant with decor, delicious food and friendly staff. Affordable as well, they do take reservations or walk ins. Drinks: they do have Mexican pop, a beer selection, and margaritas. The only reason i am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 was because the margarita tasted like there was too much mix in it and no alcohol. It didn't taste homemade but bottled. I added another shot of tequila to it, and it was a little better. Appetizers: they serve you chips and salsa which was so great. The chips were very light and crunchy and the salsa was to die for, definitely some of my favorite. We got the bean dip with a side of flour tortillas and it was incredible, drooling right now. They mix cheese into the beans and serve it to you piping hot. I got a chicken ranchero enchilada (strongly recommend) and a chicken burrito with their white cheese sauce (drooool) and a side of rice. 5/5 through and through. It is so hard to find a good authentic Mexican meal anywhere and Casa Ramirez kills it. read more

I'd forgotten how good this place was. With all due respect to Los Gallos in Boardman, I have to pull their "go-to Mexican" status and bestow it on Casa Ramirez. The neighborhood is definitely dicey and the interior is fun and nicely done (nod to FTR Joyce). This is the near West side of Y-town and it's seen a better day. I'd recommend a late lunch (serves until 3) or an early dinner to avoid any "concerns", but the food makes it worth the trip. I was there yesterday in between touring the wife's soon-to-be-demolished High School and my soon-to-be-demolished High School. We had two nice sized lunch portions (read: filling w/no take home) and a beer each for less than $20. The enchilada's were excellent. The chicken was chopped, fresh and lean. Their chips were a little stale, but the salsa was great with a bit of a kick. We put some of the salsa on the rice and beans. The beans were beans, not paste. All was full of flavor. This place is highly recommended for Mexican fare in the Y-town area. read more

Having recently moved to the area from the south, I was in search of good Mexican food. Casa Ramirez boasted a devotion to cooking the food of their homeland, so I chose them to be my first try. Quite simply, their food was sub-par, and I don't mean just for Mexican food. Their portions were very small for the price compared to other places. They only had soda in cans which meant that we had to pay for each refill. And they covered their chimichangas in shredded American cheese. Our waitress was very nice, but overall, they didn't meet expectations. Even though they claimed to be authentic, they certainly were not, and their prices were ridiculous. This place is family owned. The have a variety of dishes, including dishes you would expect to find in a Mexican restaurant as well as some unique family recipes. The food they offer is more traditional Mexican food, from the specific region in Mexico where the family comes from. Because it is more traditional food, it does taste differently than other restaurants in the area. Try one of their specialties...my favorite is the Molcajete Dinner. It is a green tomatillo sauce, strips of steak, chorizo and strips of white Mexican cheese served in a Molcajete bowl. The only downside is the service, they can be slow even when they are not busy. The wait staff (when it is not a family member) does not always have a good understanding of the menu or how to pronounce the menu items. There may also be small inconsistencies with the food..., it's always better when the owner is cooking. read more

The inside is a lot better than the outside. When we first drove into the parking lot, the place looked closed. The neighborhood looked rather shady. But it's a different world inside. The restaurant wall is painted a vibrant orange and the surrounding is very clean. We were the only guests during lunch time. The menu had the typical Mexican fare of burritos, tacos, and enchiladas. The food was decent. I had a tamale that was a bit dry. They may have pre-made it and then just microwaved it to serve to the customers. read more

This was my first visit here and I will definitely go again. I tried the Cinco de Mayo platter and it was delicious. They also offer a create your own meal with so many choices it was crazy. Don't worry about spicey or too spicey. They also are willing to work with you on that. Me? I love spicey. If you do too. I recommend trying their Jalapeno relish. Love love love Casa Ramirez. It's a little hole in the wall restaurant that is easy to drive right by and miss but map yourself to this place now because it is worth it. A lot of Mexican restaurants really only heat up previously frozen and prepared foods but this place does not. You get authentic real cooked Mexican food and it is delicious! The portions are fairly sized and the prices are very fair. I recently had the chimichanga Cancun and they were incredible! Most dinners come with rice and beans and their rice is also melt in your mouth good. I also really recommend their fried banana dessert with caramel sauce. Wow it's sugar overload but once you take a bite you won't be able to stop it's so good. The staff is great very friendly and offer recommendations and are very attentive to your needs. I wanted to love this place because it's small and family owned but it's just not that great. They staff was very slow and somewhat unfriendly despite us being the only people there. The Queso dip was nothing special and the same could be said about the entrees. The steak was very dry and flavorless. The guacamole was pretty good though as it was very unique. It reminded me more of an avocado salad. I don't think I'll be going back any time soon. read more

Be adventurous order one of the daily or house specials they are far better then the only slightly above average common dishes such as burritos, enchiladas & fajitas. People who are saying this is bad Mexican food are the same who probably think Olive Garden is good Italian food. This is the best and most authentic Mexican food in the area. Where do I start. Nowhere close to authentic Mexican food. Extremely bland. Salsa made in New York City would've been better. The tamale were meat deficient, thick masa, in the shuck with no topping. The chimichanga was bland chicken with American cheese melted on top. The ice tea was soured. The rice was acceptable, but, the refried beans were straight out of a can with shredded cheddar on top. We tried to get in before the lunch rush only to find that our party of six was the lunch rush......this should be a clue. Finally, no lighting in the restrooms. I have been going to this family's restaurant for many years at the Mahoning Avenue location. Now they have a new location, on Belmont Avenue next to Interstate 80 in the Quality Inn. Same family, same great food, menu and great prices, with lots of big TV's and NFL ticket!!! Mr. and Mrs. Ramerez were born and raised in Minchoacan, Mexico and became U.S. Citizens many years ago. Their food from the "traditional" part of the menu is what they cook at home, very authentic. Very clean, and the meats are purchased fresh, mostly locally from Catulo's. Many lunches under $6, and dinners under $15!! They have the usual Mexican beers, but I drink Yuengling, and they have it on tap. read more
