First time here. The atmosphere was nice withfriendly service and comfortable seating. It wasn't too loud and it didn't take the server too long to get our drink and appetizer order. The menu is pricey, which we don't mind when the food is good. The food we had does not justify these prices. The calamari ($16) is obviously cooked from frozen. It's not seasoned and was overcooked. Calamari isn't the most forgiving dish, so we didn't say anything. It was still edible and we were hungry. The marinara sauce wasn't bad. The side salads (one free with entrée, one $6) were your basic bagged salad with one sad slice of tomato and three slivers of shaved carrot. Dressing is not made in house. The bread (free with entrée) was the star. The dipping oil ($5) seemed like the only thing that was actually made from scratch. It was full of chopped garlic and basil with some red pepper flakes. Absolutely delightful. The bread came out fresh. It had a lovely crisp crust and a pillowy soft middle. I could have eaten a whole basket of the bread. I'm not sure if it's baked from frozen, but it was really good. We split the cappellini carciofi entrée ($16 lunch special) that was described as chicken breast sautéed with artichokes, fresh tomatoes and white wine. Served in a lemon sauce over angel hair. What we got was an anemic chicken breast pounded wafer thin that had been stewed in canned tomatoes and artichokes. There no lemon flavor in the sauce. The pasta was cooked perfectly, but the sauce just tasted like oil. The whole dish had a metallic taste that made us instantly stop eating bc it just tasted off. At that point we were over it. We had been willing to overlook the disappointing calamari, if the main dish had been great, but it was worse. Our server was very nice, but for some reason when apologizing for the bread taking longer to come out, decided to say she was baking it fresh so it "wouldn't get salmonella, because there'd been so many outbreaks". My husband and I looked at each other like. "huh? What are you doing with bread to risk salmonella?" and why would you mention salmonella right before bringing me chicken dish?!? Weird. When advised we didn't like the dish, she was very kind and got the manager. The manager did offer to bring us something else but we were already so turned off, we just wanted to go. She did bring us some more bread to go with the dipping oil that we asked to take home which was a nice touch. I don't know if we will go back. I really used to like this restaurant, which makes this experience even more disappointing. First, placing the order over the phone was some of the worst communication I've ever experienced. I ordered a medium pepperoni pizza, a medium meat lovers pizza, two orders of spaghetti with Bolognese and extra sauce, and a lasagna. That is not a complicated order. What I actually received was apparently determined by somebody spinning a wheel in the kitchen. I got a large pepperoni pizza instead of a medium. The so-called meat lovers pizza was so sparsely topped that the only reason I knew it was supposed to be meat lovers was because I spotted maybe two mysterious brown pieces of something on it. Then we moved into the pasta portion of this disaster. One order was actually spaghetti with Bolognese. There was no lasagna at all. And instead of the second spaghetti, I received tortellini with Bolognese. Why in the triple hell would anyone decide, without asking me, that stuffed pasta was an acceptable substitute for spaghetti? Maybe tortellini with Bolognese is the person taking the order's favorite meal, but it certainly isn't mine--and more importantly, I DIDN'T ORDER IT. I live in Bandera, so unfortunately I didn't discover this entire comedy of errors until I got home. Yes, I should have checked the order before leaving, but I also shouldn't have to conduct a full inventory inspection to make sure a restaurant managed to put the food I actually ordered into the bags. Wrong pizza size. Barely any meat on the meat lovers pizza. Missing lasagna. Wrong pasta entirely. At that point, this wasn't an order--it was a culinary guessing game. For what restaurant food costs these days, customers should at least be able to expect the meal they paid for. I'm beyond disappointed because this was a restaurant I genuinely enjoyed. After this experience, though, I'll have to think long and hard before making that drive again. And whoever decided tortellini was interchangeable with spaghetti: please stop freelancing with people's dinner. read more

Cons-The pizza tasted plain, even with the pepperoni. Had no taste but the cheese. Would have rather taste the tomato sauce. read more

I debated even writing this review because the service was so great. I wasn't even aware this was here but I got my hair cut at a shop in the corner from this restaurant and as I was pretty hungry when I left I decided to stop in. The place was packed. This was a Thursday evening. I don't live that far so maybe they are newish and that's why it was full but it definitely had a lot of business I love calzones so that was an easy call, and I decided to try the wings. The wings are naked with hot sauce just thrown over them. Definitely will be a pass if I ever come back. The calzone was ok. It had a huge bubble in the middle so I thought it was full of the toppings I ordered. It wasn't. Mostly ricotta cheese. Very light in the toppings. Probably would not order this again either. It was fine but I have had better in town. All in all neither item was bad. But neither did they make me anxious to come back. read more

Came here for lunch after church. This was the third time here and I decided to get the Manicotti. It came with a side salad (I asked for Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing). The bread they bring to the table is hot, light and delicious. The Ice Tea was refreshing. The salad was good and the Manicotti was very delicious it's one of my favorite Italian dishes. The lasagna noodles were mushy in fact I didn't think there were any noodles until I figured out they were over cooked. My husband had a salad which he enjoyed. Their food is outstanding. Preparations and serving is superb. It is a nice cozy place but it feels like family. The Lasagna is to die for, that is my main dish. And when I want to splurge I go for the Pasta Trio. Anything you order is a new experience and you will be in love with it. And the bread! I always take home some. Adorable neighborhood spot that everyone deserves to have close by. Note - this place is a BYOB establishment so grab yourself a nice bottle of red before coming by. The dishes are priced very reasonably and the portions are pretty large. I wouldn't say this is the best Italian in the area or anything like that but it's a solid choice when in Helotes if you're craving Italian. Keep in mind that service is ok and the atmosphere is a bit bland. Interior could use a few upgrades and they could do a better job of creating a better atmosphere. Lots of younger staff who all hang out together near the register, which causes them to chit chat and disturb any kind of romantic or peaceful atmosphere. The calamari was meh. Typical fried stuff with a lame marinara sauce. I recommend the Chicken Marsala and the dipping oil. read more

Italian opera music greets you upon entering as does a young lady to show you to your table. The menu selection is better than average. I do suggest ordering appetizers- their bread with dipping oil is warm and light and we got 3 baskets of it - no shame. My 14 year old kept saying "So good" like only a teenager can. Their pinwheels are also good. The plate ware was good looking and the utensils were heavy, wrapped in dark cloth napkins - signs that this restaurant didn't skimp on small details. I had the chicken picatta with a Caesar salad but was envious of my youngest daughter who had Pollo margarita which looked really cheesy and very fresh. My Wife had chicken Cacciatore. The sauces tasted authentic. The waiting staff was courteous and checked on us about three times and made sure our glasses were full and food was okay. I ate at Casa Pasta Helotes in October and Casa Pasta on Portranco yesterday and both times it was excellent! I had read that they had in house made pasta and it made me want to try it. I had the fettuccine both times, yesterday I had it with fried chicken. It was delicious, the pasta is light and fluffy and the sauce is so creamy and full of cheesy flavored deliciousness! The bread is sooo good, crusty on the outside and soft and fluffy inside. My granddaughter said she wants to go back already, especially for that bread. I love that they allow you to bring in your own wine. This alone made me decide on this place instead of Olive Garden, it saved me money. We were a party of eight and were immediately seated. Menus were brought and our drink orders were taken and our drinks served. As soon as we all closed our menus our orders were taken. All of our meals came with salads which were brought quickly. Hot fresh bread was brought to our tables and our meals were served as we were finishing our salads. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. We noted that the temperature was pleasant. The music was pleasing and not too loud do it was easy for us to hear each other. It is a small place located in a nondescript strip mall, but the food, for the most part, is pretty good and worth the visit. I have eaten at Casa Pasta before and loved the food and the prices. We had some their delicious dipping oil with bread, which consists of extra virgin olive oil and herb. This was so incredibly good, I almost filled up on their bread. From their lunch menu, I ordered the Capellini Carciofi for $10. This was a sautéed chicken artichokes, tomato, and white wine, served with angel hair pasta. The chicken was good, no gristly parts, and the pasta well cooked. It had a lemon sauce that added to the flavor. Their entrees for lunch all come with a tossed salad and bread. Just the perfect lunch meal. Service was outstanding, and our waitress kept the bread coming, even giving us some to take home with our leftovers. She was very sweet and helpful. I always get calamari when I see it on a menu and this may honestly be the best I've had. The chicken Florentine was okay. The sauce had a good consistency but was seriously lacking in flavor. The chicken was a bit dry and flavorless as well. This dish should be grateful to the salt and pepper at the table for the carry job they did. Overall had a positive experience. I think those who are salt sensitive and/or like less flavored food would really like it here. Feels like a mom and pop atmosphere. The complimentary warm bread is so good. We've tried a few menu items and still can't decide which ones are best, they're all so good. I love the tiramisu.
