I've been here a number of times over the years. Pizza quality has always been decent but it seems that the staff is quite sullen. You can dine in, several tables are provided, but the dining area is poorly lit and the soda machine not well maintained. Yesterday an incident occurred that made me question why I bother to go out of my way to go here when there are other good pizzas in town. When I ordered a large pizza, the cashier rang me up for three dollars more than the posted price. I caught it and called him on it, so he reluctantly adjusted it to the price it was supposed to be. Made me wonder how often that happened on a daily basis. It could add up to a substantial sum over time! So next time I need a pizza fix, Garlic Jim's may or may not be under consideration. read more

TLDR: As most of the reviews below state, this is 'pretty good' pizza. Definite standout from the sea of pizza chains, but it's a pricey alternative. Placed a medium mushroom-sausage pie order for pickup. Restaurant is pretty basic, a few tables and mostly designed for takeout. Staff was friendly and service was prompt. Toppings were fresh, decent cheese and sauce. A cut above a lot of chains. I'm a little mixed on the crust. Nice and doughy with a bit of chew, but overly thick at the rim, making the sauce and cheese pool towards the center. (See the picture, I'm not joking!) Overall, a good pizza but overpriced at +$20 for a two-topping medium. Still, since the quality was there, I'd give it a firm thumbs-up. This place scores a 4 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Large pizzas but okay. Southwest and garlic chicken. I can literally count the chicken pieces on two hands and will be left with few to spare. I am not kidding. $24 for a large pizza and you skimp on the toppings. It donot leave a good feeling. Service was slow that day. Poor fellow was the only one working. Just one person. Someone recommended it to me recently so I thought I'd try it. Online ordering was a little confusing. Website looks like it was designed by a third grader in 1998. I don't know why they need my phone number AND email address for the order. After I finished, the site said I'd get a confirmation. Never did. Went to pick it up. Restroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. Staff was friendly. Pizza tastes pretty good. Sauce has a nice flavor; toppings were fresh. I have a little issue with hand tossed crusts. I like them, but they never seem to spread the sauce out far enough. A couple of the slices were only three bites. Seriously. Have a look at the picture. That's a lot of real estate that could have used more sauce and cheese. I would go back though. Maybe get a different type of crust. read more

Sometimes you just want a pizza. This town is full of pizza joints on every corner. Garlic Jim's stands out from the crowd! It's nestled into a strip mall off of 1604 and Hausman, so it may be often overlooked. They are available for dine-in, pick up or delivery and I found out the hard (or easy) way that if you accidentally set your order for pickup and you meant delivery, you can easily call and ask them to deliver with no hassle. We've had a few different pizzas from Garlic Jim's but our favorites are the Cheeseburger and the famous Nutty Chipotle. The cheeseburger is topped with bacon, beef, cheddar cheese, classic red sauce, mozzarella cheese, red onions, Roma tomatoes and drizzled with Thousand Island dressing. I don't think it tastes quite like a cheeseburger but it is tasty. I think if they add some shredded lettuce on top that would be a nice addition. Then there is the Nutty Chipotle. I have never heard of such a thing but it is a very interesting choice. It comes with zesty chipotle pesto that is topped with spicy Italian sausage, pepperoni, red onions, tomatoes, and cashews. Cashews, you say? Yes, cashews. They are roasted right on top and you hardly notice them until you taste this interesting crunch from time to time. I add black olives to ours to gild the lily. In the past, we've had the Hercules (all meat) and enjoyed it as well. You have choices on the crust: hand-tossed, garlic thin, and gluten-free. We've tried the hand-tossed and garlic thin and I just can't decide which I like the best. I'd love for them to add a deep dish, but I'll stay happy with the other choices. Staff and delivery people have always been pleasant and accommodating. We don't order pizza very often, but when we do, it's usually Garlic Jim's. It's just a bit different and a good choice in a sea of Papa Johns, Dominoes, Pizza Hut, etc. read more

Have ordered delivery from the one location in San Antonio on Hausman Rd for over a year and they tell me I'm 2 miles outside of their delivery zone???? Additionally the person answering the phone could not understand English making the entire process of trying to make sure I wasn't charged for 3 pies instead of one trying to get their payment webpage to work. Really solid spot for Pizza, wings and Toasted sandwiches. Got a Large Cheese, Italian Sandwich and Boneless Wings. Every was good, real good. Tried Garlic Jim's for the first time last night. We were caught in the middle of a downpour and in the process of moving so we needed to carryout dinner. The young ladies there were very polite and courteous; answering my questions about particular menu items. I left with a large Big Jimmy, large pepperoni, Buffalo wings, and cheesecakes. We all enjoyed the crust on the pizzas even though we're diehard NY-Style pizzas. They were filling and proofed with flavor. The sauce on the Big Jimmy wasn't as good as I anticipated. It tasted very much like it was made with pre-cut, bottled garlic instead of fresh, but that didn't have any bearing on my review. The loss of a star is due to the price and wings. Our meal cost is $65 and the wings were pretty underwhelming and baked, which is never a good thing in my opinion. I'll definitely be back though as our overall experience was pleasant. read more

I wish I could give 3.5 stars because 3 is honestly low but 4 is to high (in my opinion). My husband and I actually did not agree on the food, he really enjoyed it where I was slightly disappointed. First I'll start off with the wings: the Buffalo sauce they use; amazing. It tastes so good and is actually a little spicy compared to most places where Buffalo wings are so vinegary. The blue cheese dressing they provide is also super yummy. I don't know if it's homemade but it sure does taste like it to me. With that being said, I didn't like the actual wing part because they were super "soft", I don't know if that's the right word. I'm used to really crispy wings and so I think it was just a preference thing. This was the one of two things my husband and I agreed on, we regret buying the wings. The Garlic Pizza: we both didn't like this pizza at all. I wish I could get my money back for it. It lacked so much flavor. Didn't taste any garlic, and honestly wouldn't have been able to tell you it had basil anything. My husband said it just tasted like dry bread to him which is disappointing since it did have tons of toppings. The other two pizzas my husband LOVED. The Sicilian was his favorite, he loved the flavor combos, loved how thin it was and said it was perfectly balanced; I thought it was meh. Cheeseburger pizza was probably the best out of all of them. I mainly only tasted salt but there was one part where I got the sauce and meat together and it really did taste like a cheeseburger. I think this pizza is a fun one and definitely worth trying. Overall, I think this place is okay. It's way better than dominos or Pizza Hut in my opinion BUT it wasn't worth the $94 spent. I wish I could get my money back and spend it elsewhere. read more
