Years ago, there was a place in Vancouver that served Spaghetti Ice Cream. ( I think it was on Granville Island ) It had been so many years since I'd seen a Spaghetti Ice Cream so when Casa Mia announced that they were going to serve a Spaghetti Gelato for the Vanfoodster Best Sundae Challenge , I was determined to make it over there to try out their Spaghetti Gelato. We also managed to try the Eiscafe, which was their 2nd creation for the Vanfoodster Best Sundae Challenge .
Spaghetti Gelato: Biscottino Gelato was the base of this dessert, and it was topped with strawberry sauce and shaved coconut. Such a fun creation but not a camera friendly treat to have, especially on a hot summer's day as the "spaghetti" strands can melt quickly and before you know it, you'll have gelato soup on your plate! Photos and video need to be taken quickly before it melts! As for the taste, it was a yummy treat but I think the strawberry sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste. The gelato is very tasty on its own and the sauce is unnecessary. It sure does make for a wonderful photo though and if they would cut back a bit on the amount of sugar in the strawberry sauce, I'd happily eat this treat again!
Eiscafe: Made of Mogiana coffee flavoured gelato, vanilla gelato, 2 shots of Mogiana espresso shots, chocolate sauce, whipped cream and coffee nibs, this takes the traditional Affogato dessert to an entirely new level. While the Spaghetti Gelato had more "wow" factor on camera, I enjoyed the taste of the Eiscafe more. The combination of the Mogiana coffee flavoured gelato mixed with the Mogiana espresso itself was so luxurious and not overly sweet.
