My family and I had been going to this place for nearly 20 years and I always praised the albondigas soup but this past Wednesday my mom and I got food poisoned an hour after having the molcajete and after finally recovering from it after a few days had passed we decided to call up the place to let them know about this problem incase anyone else orders it in the future and they didn't even apologize and they hung up on us saying "They take classes for the health department." There wasn't anything remarkable of note with my experience, and I, personally always qualify my * * * * (four star) and * * * * * (five star) restaurant ratings as being places that "If I were ever to move out of town, then eventually come back into town as a visitor, would the restaurant become one of those "must return to and go to" every trip I come back?" and in part that's how I define places I'm a true fan of. If not for those standards, how can people differentiate between... good... great... and awesome! ? I know it's very subjective from reviewer to reviewer. Some folks only use Yelp to gripe and complain as a way to vent. Other reviewers are very Pollyanna about things and give high praise to everyone, to the point that their reviews become less honest and not reliable. So, when I give * * * (three star) reviews, that's still as Yelp defines it as "A-OK" which means to me it's still good if not maybe even great on many levels, so not at all a negative, more like a "B" (and sometimes a "C") grade, which in school is sufficient to "Pass" and considered positive. For me, even * * (two stars) is somewhat okay at times, whereas a * (one star) has some problem that would prohibit me from giving referral / recommendations nor returning back with free will or a planned visit. With that, the * * * given to Casa Jimenez is based on being reliable, ordinary as opposed to extraordinary, but still of good solid substance in most aspects I judge places on. I like this place and will / would try other dishes, and once I find that one signature dish, I will probably upgrade and update my review with notes as well as a higher rating I'm sure, but I still think it's a good spot regardless of rating standards. read more

I'm not sure what's going on with the pricing at Casa Jimenez? The on-site menu vs what's on Yelp are about 6-8+ dollar difference. The current pricing is set as a 4 star restaurant over looking the ocean?! There was one other couple eating breakfast inside and a full staff in the kitchen? What seemed to be a fantastic hole in the wall, quality food and sweet service is extremely over priced. I honestly think they don't understand pricing and the market. Went to Casa Jimenez for lunch. I ordered their Cocido, it is served with rice on the side. It was tasteless. The rice was overcooked and bland. Cocido was red as if they used tomato paste. I have been here many times because my dad loves this place and I have never had a bad experience here. The staff are fast, efficient, and friendly. Service is always excellent and visits here are always pleasant. Besides their service, the food never disappoints. I love all of their food from their albondigas, to their chilaquiles and their pancakes. All for a really great price as well. Being that we've come here for so long, we have dabbled and tried many of their menu items. We usually come for breakfast because everything tastes so authentic and homemade. I enjoy ordering the chilaquiles or the enchiladas plate. My parents who are tough judges for menudo, continue to prefer the menudo here over other restaurants. The beans here taste like my grandma was in the kitchen making them. Another thing I want to mention is the pancakes here are really good!! Came to this Mexican spot on a Sunday around 12 in the afternoon. Parking lot has some tight spaces so be careful. The inside seemed to be well cleaned, with about 5 tvs or so throughout the place. You have to wait to he seated, so when you get there just walk up to the counter and put your name down. We had a little wait, but nothing too crazy. We had just sat down and a waitress helping another table seen us, and sent for someone to get us a menu. We ordered drinks and food all at once and it came out in a timely manner.
