And have been going there for new glasses and repair for at least 20 years. Yesterday I went there to see if they could fix a pair of glasses with an expensive flexible frame that needed repair. The screws needed to be replaced. They were worn down so bad I didn't think they could be removed. It took a while but Clifford got them out and replace them. When I told him that I didn't think anybody could fix them he said they were the only people in Richmond that repaired glasses. Also, he wouldn't let me pay him for the work. Tom Clarke

I've been coming here because it's super convenient and my insurance likes them, plus the turnaround time on new glasses is lightning-fast. Trying to use up my eye benefits before the year ended, I walked in ready to get things done--only to be greeted by the slowest, most mumble-y rep on the planet. This poor soul looked like she'd rather be anywhere else and talked as if she had marbles in her mouth. She was circling around, socializing way more than helping me, and dragging my visit out like it was a Netflix special. When I mentioned I'd been there just a month ago and that my insurance covers more frames than lenses, she pointed me toward what I thought were the only brand-name frames in the store. After I teased her about their buyer's questionable taste, she laughed in agreement and finally revealed a secret stash of "high-end" frames--most of which looked like something from a rejected sci-fi prop sale--but hey, I found a pair I loved (shock!). Things almost went south when she botched my order entry, turning what should have been a full insurance-covered purchase into a "$10 donation." I was ready to walk out and let her lunch fund fly solo, but thank goodness the manager checked my order, cleared up the mess, and got me out of there with new specs and a smile. No one could explain exactly what happened behind the scenes, but the manager's service made all the difference. Moral of the story? If something smells fishy, just ask the manager--they'll turn your day around!

It's always very easy to schedule appointments and you can literally take a visit on a lunch break, as she is efficient and honors appointment times. So much respect for doctors and practices that try their best to stay on time and respect your time as well. All of the staff are friendly, they do a great job explaining what to expect, and it's no frills billing that you pay during your appointment time. Aside from my routine eye exams, Dr. Fripps has excellent chair side manner and holds space for you to address any questions or concerns you may have with your eyes. Then not only does she make recommendations, but also tries to give 2-3 recommendations in varying price points and locations (online vs retail) for whatever budget you may be hoping to stay within. This is one of those places you almost wish you visit more than once a year or so, but it's a welcoming practice and she remembers little details about you even though visits are infrequent. I'm also in desperate need of getting new glasses since it has been about a good 2-3 years since my last eye check up. I actually had a free lunch period and decided to see if they were accepting walk-ins. Parking can be a pain, especially during the crazy lunch rush (it's by Chopt Salad). - The website is pretty easy to use as well, but I wasn't sure of my available time for the week so just walked in. It was pretty quick doing the paperwork and I waited for about 30 mins before getting my eyes checked. Afterwards, I went to the exam room with Dr. Robert Galban to complete my glasses/contacts prescription. I really like how this office is handled. Dr. Galban was very informative on how he was examining my eyes and even showed me my results of my eyes. (It's times like this when you're glad that it's a "boring" exam - I only just meant that I was in the clear! haha). Overall, the experience was pretty good for a walk-in appointment. I only have to do a week follow up on my contacts to make sure that it feels like the right prescription. I really like how the office worked and how they want to make sure that the client is happy with their prescriptions. All the staffs were friendly and very helpful with any questions that I had. Eye doctors used to be that for me, but after my experience with Grove Eye Care, I feel much more confident and relaxed. I had my first visit back in 2023. I was looking to start wearing contacts and to get a new glasses prescription. Booking an appointment was easy. My first visit is a bit of a blur since it's been over a year, but I did have main takeaways. Whoever it was that guided me in how to put on contacts was the kindest and most encouraging person I've met. In my experience, a lot of eye doctor visits have involved inpatient people (I can understand because I would feel inpatient hearing the same six letters over and over again). I did not feel this way with my contact teacher. She was there to support me and made me feel welcome. I highly recommend getting contacts here. The contact experience involves getting the right prescription for you with a doctor, learning how to put them on, getting trials for a week, then returning to see if you'd like to order them. I have VSP which helped with the cost and have enjoyed the Bausch and Lomb Infuse 1-Day contacts. As for eye exams themselves, on an annual check-up this week, I did have a more impatient examiner, who didn't really explain all the machines to me which I didn't mind as much because I felt more confident, but had wished she told me when bright lights were flashing. They have a machine you can pay extra for so you don't need to get your eyes dilated which is nice. My first examiner in 2023 did explain everything. I think you just need to ask. My doctor is Dr. Schwartz. She helped me with my contact journey as well as treating headaches and dry eyes. She's very direct and to the point and can answer any questions you may have. I've enjoyed having her as my doctor. During my visit this week, I explored possibly purchasing new glasses/lenses at the shop section. It was a bit out of my price range, but do know you can get your prescription for free and if you need the distance of your eyes it's a $10 charge. If you're feeling uneasy about eye doctors, this is a great place to feel more confident and comfortable with them. The parking is easy here with a lot out front. It's near Carytown. And there is a gender neutral single stall for bathrooms. I highly recommend.

I had one of the most frustrating experiences ever with this store…read more Two months ago, I brought in my own eyeglass frame (barely worn) to have lenses fitted. After waiting more than two weeks with no update, I called to check, and only then did they tell me my glasses were ready. When I picked them up, the prescription was completely wrong, so I had to redo the exam and order again. This second attempt was even worse. After another month of waiting--and multiple calls where the staff gave me confusing or evasive answers--they finally admitted that my glasses had been lost in transit. When I went to the store for a solution, here were my options: 1. Choose a replacement frame. At first, one staff member told me I could pick any frame from the wall. Then another restricted me to only the $129 section, and if I wanted something better, I'd have to pay extra. This made no sense--my original frame was higher quality and definitely not plastic, and it was their fault it got lost. Why should my choice be limited because of their mistake? 2. Request a refund. But not immediately. I'd have to wait until the manager came back from vacation to approve it. And given they already lost my glasses, I had no confidence they wouldn't "lose" the refund check too. The excuse was that it wasn't the store's fault but "the lab's" fault--as if that makes a difference to the customer. 3. Wait for the manager. The staff said they couldn't make decisions without her, and they refused to call her because she was on vacation. A store of this size with no backup system or delegated authority? Completely unprofessional. Bottom line: They took my money upfront, wasted months of my time, lost my property, and then made me wait even longer for a half-baked solution. Customers should not have to sacrifice their time because of the store's mistakes. If you want fast, reliable service, and accountability when things go wrong--this is not the place.

Luckily, I was able to get the exact same style of glasses and use my same lenses. I am only docking one star because of the cumbersome checkout process where, with their new payment system, Mr. Harold and his coworker tried over 4 times to remove the taxes from my purchase, to no avail. Nevertheless, I appreciate the customer service I received and the frequent updates from Mr. Harold since my glasses was taking longer than he intended to repair.

I chose a pair of Costas. They were very expensive, but I was excited to invest in a nice pair of sunglasses. After I was fitted for them, I went back several weeks later to pick them up. I had ordered progressive lenses so that I could read and see far away. The transition of closer to far away was not good, and I could not see to read at all with them. The tech was very nice and said that she would order a new pair and have the lenses adjusted. When I went back the second time, then I could see to read, but could not see far away. The tech became very frustrated and walked away when I told her that I still could not see. She sent a different tech over to help me who said they would refund me for my glasses. I told her that I didn't want to be refunded, I just wanted to be able to see clearly out of the glasses that I was paying so much money for. She escorted me to the front, and I asked her why she was not offering me other alternatives for glasses that might work better with progressive lenses. She was dismissive and told me that she could not help me. If there are certain styles of glasses that do not work with progressive lenses, I should've been told that up front. I also expected a much higher level of customer service to try and find a pair that would work for me. I felt blamed, dismissed, and disrespected. I will not be going back. I called a few days later to speak to the office manager to share my experience and no one returned my call.
