The first cake I ever ordered from Pinho's was a beautiful double-stacked birthday cake. The craftsmanship was incredible. It was artistic, aesthetically beautiful, extremely high quality, and tasted just as good as it looked. Unfortunately, after picking it up, we made a mistake transporting it in the car and the cake completely fell apart on the way home. This was entirely OUR fault, not the bakery's. We brought it back about an hour later hoping there was anything they could possibly do to save it. What happened next is the reason I'm writing this review. The owner went completely above and beyond for us. She stayed HOURS later than she needed to, personally working to rebuild and restore our cake. She somehow managed to bring it back to life and make it beautiful again. She didn't charge us anything for all that extra time and work, and then, incredibly, even gave us another cake on the side. That kind of kindness and dedication to a customer is something I won't forget. I'm back at Pinho's again now for another birthday because after that experience, choosing where to get the cake wasn't even a question. Their cakes are beautiful, creative, high quality, and absolutely delicious, but it's the people behind them that made me a returning customer. 5/5 for the cake. 11/10 for the service. Thank you again for what you did for us. You turned what could have been a birthday disaster into a memory we'll always have.

Despite the immediate cancellation request, I was told the deposit was completely non-refundable and could only be applied toward a future purchase. Instead of working toward a fair resolution, I was simply referred back to the policy. I came to this location last night for a quick ice cream cone at 9:40pm and the store closes at 10pm . There were four workers on duty two were actually servicing people and the other two were gossiping with a friend at towards the back of the store. I had to wait 8 minutes for someone to think about helping me, however for those 8 minutes of waiting I had to hear about how they should be closing the store at 9:30pm and how people are so inconsiderate for coming in after 9:30pm and they need to start getting paid after 10pm . The best part is that the only reason someone acknowledged me is because someone else walked in and the two workers who were gossiping finally realize I was standing there . The young lady who did take me order stayed in the back to say what are you getting, almost as if I was bothering her . Overall terrible service won't be returning read more

It's a cute corner store in the middle of downtown Newark with street parking. It was raining so I was dropped off as my husband found street parking. I admit I didn't get too good of a look inside since my ride was waiting outside somewhere, but I did see the display case. They do not only sell pies. There are muffins, croissants, cobblers, cakes, cheesecakes, and pies (4" and 8"). There were little labels but I don't recall prices - I was there for a treat though so didn't think too deeply. There was a freezer for ice cream to get your treats a la mode but it was empty. Someone was there being helped but once finished, I realized it was Mr. Tod himself. He gave off a friendly and cheerful vibe. I ended up focusing on a "sample" of pies and I got: BLUEBERRY CRUMB: you really get the fruit in here and it's not too sweet nor does it taste artificial like some fruit pies do. LEMON CHESS: you get the lemon, you get the creamy custard feel. Yum. Great if you love lemons but not exactly the sour/tart aspect of it. SWEET POTATO: beautifully spiced and you definitely have that sweet potato taste. I enjoyed this immensely. PECAN: This was definitely pecan pie and it was delectable. Not too sweet to my delight. I thought all the personal pies I chose were terrific. They range from $5.75 to $6.99 (blueberry) each. The crust held its shape perfectly and was still flaky. They came out of the pans wonderfully and didn't feel greasy. They likely do use a machine to crimp but that's fine... I guess. I wish parking was easier but I honestly have no real complaints other than I have to drive to Newark to get some delicious pies. Yum!
