Fudgie: the king of all ice cream whales
    Will H.

FUDGIE THE WHALE REVIEW ONLY: it was a honor and frankly life-changing to experience "the king of all ice cream whales" firsthand. This simple yet decadent delight has surely shared countless special occasions and played a key part in so many memories of those primarily in the northeastern United States near a Carvel store. Despite my arguable middle-aged status, a childhood spent 3/4 of the time in Florida largely deprived me of the Carvel experience. My brother in law turned 44 yesterday, bonafide middle age! He had key formative years spent witnessing the cheesy Tom Carvel commercials for this famous whale and its forever-linked cousin, cookie puss. For him, last night evoked a nostalgia that you can't put a price on. At least I can't because I didn't buy this cake! For those uninitiated, this cake consists of chocolate "crunchies" within layers of cakey ice cream and of course, "fudge." I'm sure it's full of chemicals and there was no calorie count, but who cares, it is delicious and simply screams of an occasion that's special. The store also sold those trick "impossible to blow out" candles which was a nice reminder of normality these days. Fudgie rightly earns his/her (not sure of their pronoun) place in pop culture and our waistlines. Aside from checking out the old commercials on YouTube, Fudgie must be seen (and eaten) to be fully understood. No harpoon necessary. Thank goodness for modern science for allowing us to come back together, and for Carvel, its hedge fund backers, and franchisees to be right there by our side ready to make new memories!

Such a variety of ice cream at Carvel. I have been here a few times and the customer service has always been pleasant. They have already made tubs of ice cream and ice cream cakes. Their ice cream is more on the pricier side but it's delicious. I typically opt to get a ice bream blend with something simple like Oreos and whipped cream. They have hard ice cream and soft serve.

Such a sweet little ice cream shop! They have the absolute best soft serve around! It is so creamy and light! You do not feel weighed down after eating it. They have many different flavors special to Carvel which I enjoy! Definitely come here for some ice cream if you are in the area.

My favorite ice cream. I wish they didn't close the Liverpool location. I just love the vanilla soft serve.

I came here by chance because I got a gift card from somebody. I have to say their chicken pot pie…read morewith a puff pastry crust was literally the best pot pie I've ever tried. (don't let my mom read this review.) it's visually stunning and incredibly tasty. I will be back.

Such a cute cafe and a lot more spacious than I had anticipated! They also sell some very cute greeting cards, earrings, magnets, etc. We ordered two drinks (Ube Espresso, Crème Brûlée latte), a flower pot mini cake (chocolate cake with raspberry filling in a decorative flower pot), a crème brûlée donut, and a spinach puff. The desserts were good, with the flower pot mini cake being our favorite. The chocolate cake was moist and the raspberry filling was balanced. We didn't love the flower frosting on top, but it was very pretty. The donut was very unique and filled to the brim with a fluffy cream - though we both thought it could've had a bit more flavor. The dough was perfect - soft and pillowy. The crème brûlée top made for a fun eating experience as the thin hard sugar had a satisfying crunch. The spinach puff was also delicious. Flaky pastry and cheesy filling - very comforting. The stars of the show were the drinks. The coffee was superb - balanced, smooth, and rich in flavor. While I didn't find the ube flavor to stand out, the ube espresso drink was still one of my favorite coffee drinks I've had. The Crème Brûlée latte was my friend's favorite - it was the perfect dessert drink. It even had the sugar crust on top. I would definitely come back to try more of their menu!

I stumbled upon Big Dip when I first moved to the area two years ago, as it's by my chiropractor…read more I'd dubbed it my favorite spot in town, but I think it may have been bested recently by a competitor or two. On my last visit, my milkshake was practically milk and no bueno. I was with my mom during that trip, and she reminded me I also had a bad milkshake there at the end of last season. The problem is that it tends to be busy that bringing it to the attention of an employee means cutting the line...I did reach out via social media and I was told to order milkshakes 'thick' going forward. I went this past Thursday and ordered a vanilla cone with sprinkles. The vanilla was way too soft, and shouldn't have been served. I think that might have been the issues with the milkshakes-- the ice cream isn't actually the way it should be. My mom's chocolate peanut butter cone was fine, however. With prices being what they are and my last 3 to 4 trips having been underwhelming/super disappointing, I think it is time for me to move on from the Big Dip.

Big dip is great. They have reasonable prices, friendly staff, and great options…read more HOWEVER, please be aware they will NOT let you eat the big giant ice cream cone on top of the building. They get real mad when you get up there and try to lick it. They say it's no real ice cream but I know that's not true! I came in the middle of the night with a ladder, climbed up and started munching that ice cream before the police intervened. It's real ice cream! Real delicious ice cream! I don't know how they keep it from melting up there, but whatever they are doing it's working. Once a year I think they should let some lucky person eat the big giant ice cream on the roof.

I'll start with the great. The staff have always been wonderful when I've come. They always…read moreappreciate the small tip I leave them. As a Brooklyn boy I always found it odd there was no tip jar, we do things differently where I'm from. The prices for their goods is extremely good. Syracuse, take note of this and cherish your establishments. I walked out with two dozen donuts & a single danish cheese for $25. A famous national chain charges I think over $2.25 for a subpar donut. When I visit Cuse, I always stop here but this past time I feel the donuts were not as fresh as they once were, this could be very biased due to my experience and I don't go that often, the regulars will have better input in quality of the years. But what happened below is why I'm no longer stopping in. Saturday the 27th I pull into the parking lot and see a woman outside asking for change, very normal for me where I'm from. I don't say anything. I came inside to do a good deed, bring my neighbor and his children a dozen of donuts and grab a dozen for my family and an army buddy visiting from the west coast. I'm in a good mood. I never give people change, I always buy food. I decided I'll buy a cheese danish for the very thin woman outside in the cold. I add that to my order. Total $25 gave $30 and told the Wonderful Woman who took my order to keep the rest for herself. As I walk out, I offer the woman the cheese danish. She declined it. In a very rude way saying "she doesn't eat desserts". Now toots, you're in front of a damn bakery. People are more inclined to give you food as opposed to money so we don't support your clear drug habit. In Brooklyn where I'm from, the people like that still take the food, say thank you as it's still a kind gesture with good intentions and tosses it when you leave. That being said, there is no issue at this point. I say, "ok, have a good day and walk to my car". If the owner would like to review footage, it's the black 4Runner with NY disabled veteran plates. As I'm getting into my car, the same woman screams at me. Saying "bounce b-I-t-c-h" and telling me I better leave. Of course I reply with every profanity known to man and leave. The next morning I go again to take two donuts for my drive back to Brooklyn. Guess who's there? Yup the same delusional woman. Asks again for change and I tell her, "not after the way you treated me yesterday, I'll probably never give someone anything again that asks". Then she says "why does this man come here? I walk inside, order my two donuts and receive great service from the gentleman with glasses, who I gave a $1 tip to in two donuts. As I'm walking out another customer in the waking into the parking lot of course hands her a dollar. I told him my experience and he still chose too, hey it's America do what you wish. But when this broad is here every day, it's because people keep giving her money. But hey, his choice. And I'll do as I wish. I will no longer be coming to a Harrison Bakery. If they allow a delusional person to sit for hours everyday on THEIR property to accost/ harass customers, they cleary do not value us as customers to have a great peaceful experience. The donuts & Black & Whites are not that good to have to ruin my vibe. It's their property. Harrison bakery is 100% responsible of who is on their property and for what purpose. Syracuse PD will have no issue with issuing a no trespass for this person who literally stands or lays against the brick wall all day. Keep in mind. This is coming from someone who literally grew up in homeless shelters from time to time, even a bit of time at the Vera house down the road.
