The four stars that we are giving here are representative of the two Carvel experiences that we have already had being back in the Northeast: this one and some random one outside of Hartford, CT. Both locations were really dumpy, and while this one had a very grumpy woman working there, the one in CT had a very sweet pair of folks. Anyway, what we come for is the ice cream! One of us is a die-hard soft serve ONLY person who completely does not understand anyone, like her husband and daughter, who get the hard stuff. The chemical deliciousness is so superior to Dairy Queen, and it's always vanilla, always with rainbow sprinkles. 4EVA. (We did sample the lemon berry soft serve flavor, which was....interesting.) The scooped ice cream is fine, although we do want to shout out their "ice cream cake" flavor, which is chocolate and vanilla with those cookie crumbles mixed in. It's really good...just wished they also laced in some of the frosting! So, yeah, this location isn't the greatest, but it served its purpose. Can't go wrong with some classic Carvel. They offer your traditional ice cream options in addition to seasonal flavors with a ton of topping choices. The staff is efficient and friendly. Excellent customer service! Ladies are friendly, polite, & fill orders accurately. Soft serve vanilla is creamy & hits the spot. Hard serve banana is a pleasant surprise-tasting like blended frozen bananas (&not the yellow colored artificial flavoring). I'll be back to try the dairy free raspberry & fruit sorbet flavors on a hot day! Serving sizes are filling, store was clean, a variety of toppings are offered, & freezer cases were filled with a variety of decorated cakes and premade treats. Literally the best ice cream! The staff is always very nice and patient. Never seem annoyed having to make sundae dashers or shakes. Willing to let you try out ice cream flavors you may want to try. They will keep servicing patrons even after they close if there's a line! I think they're 100x better than colonia dairy made down the street. Parking is tight though. Come early to avoid the lines! They also have different deals different days of the week which is awesome if you have a family. read more

I absolutely love Carvel sundae dashers! Today, I stopped at this location, and I saw they had apple pie and pumpkin soft serve! I had a taste of both, and they were very good! I decided to create my own Reese's sundae dasher, and instead of using the vanilla soft serve ice cream it comes with. I told the girl to use their delicious pumpkin soft serve ice cream instead. I also requested no hot fudge or whip cream, and for extra peanut butter. I can't even begin to tell you how good it was! I highly recommend Carvel in Colonia, and getting a sundae dasher! It's time for a revamp in favor of a place that produces great soft serve ice cream! The rating stays the same, especially since it can't get any higher! This location is located off of busy NJ-35 in Central Jersey, right next to a sandwich shop. This is the closest location from my place of residence. The amount of parking outside is small, but there was always a spot available during my experiences. Also outside of the place are picnic tables with napkin dispensers for those who want to sit down and eat their ice cream treats, especially since the inside doesn't have any tables and chairs. Inside the place are two areas of hard ice cream in various flavors. There are also frozen cases for ice cream cakes and treats "to go". Behind the hard ice cream areas are the soft serve machines, which are operated by the employees. The girls who were behind the counters were always pleasant when fulfilling our orders, which was nice. For our most recent experience, we had a "buy 1 get 1 free" soft serve sundae coupon. Usually when we come to Carvel, it's always for that coupon redemption. We redeemed that coupon on small NUTELLA soft serve sundaes. My parents got theirs with sprinkles, WHIPPED CREAM, and a cherry on top. I got mine with Butterfinger pieces, WHIPPED CREAM, and a cherry on top. The flavor of the NUTELLA soft serve was spot on. When I ate the ice cream, I was able to picture a jar of Nutella in my head. It was just so good, and not overly sweet! Of course mixing that with the Butterfinger pieces resulted in a perfect and tasty combination. I do encourage Nutella fans to try this flavor. The girl who served us was very nice. The fact that she placed whipped cream on my sundae in a messy fashion was hilarious. They do accept credit cards for payment, unlike some of the other pricey ice cream places that want you to pay only by cash. Overall, this place is great, and we'll always be back. Cheers! read more

Friendly service. Packed!!!! They need a new sign at this location it's faded! You can drive right by. There were annoying kids here today with a mother who didn't discipline them. So be prepared for pre teen kids running around the store. A small store too. Safety concerns. But like the fact that on their website they are open until 10pm and customers were still in there after hours, and still had customers going in 10 minutes after they closed, unlike the location in metuchen who shunned us away a minute before they closed! We always came here for birthday and holiday cakes, but won't come here anymore. I ordered a cake for my wife's birthday (12/25) and picked it up on Christmas Eve. Not only was the cake NOT MADE when promised, but an even bigger surprise was awaiting us. When served on Christmas Day, we found that the inside of the cake was approximately 75% chocolate cookie crumbs. There was little vanilla ice cream, and virtually no chocolate ice cream on the bottom. In short, I got a cookie crumb cake for a very high price. I came here yesterday around 8:00 pm to purchase a cake for my friends birthday party. There was a huge line for customers wanting to buy ice cream on the left side of the store by the cases. I didn't need to order anything, so I walked to the register on the opposite side of the store where there were no customers in line. The employee tells me I need to wait in line to pay for the cake. I ask why if I am not purchasing any ice cream, just want to pay for the cake and go. She tells me it's a rule, and I say ok (even though that's ridiculous. It takes less than a minute to ring me up and send me on my way). Another customer wanting to just pay for a cake and leave comes in minutes later & also has an issue with the "rule." I understand how it may be "unfair", but if you had someone solely on registers taking care of pick-ups and quick orders it wouldn't have caused this inconvenience for people wanting to get in and out of the store. As a happy 13-year regular customer of this Carvel, I suppose it's about time that I write a review. This Carvel has been here since the 1970s, and it has so few reviews! Clearly, it's because it's understood and taken for granted that Carvel ice cream is good, and that this Carvel is good. What really needs to be said, though, is how this Carvel is different from the others. I've been to every Carvel within 20 miles of this Carvel. I've also been going to Carvel stores for almost 50 years. If you went to Carvel stores in the 70s like I did, when Tom Carvel was still in charge, you know that the Carvel stores today are nothing like those Tom Carvel stores. The ice cream is the same, and Fudgie is still around, but the company is now owned by Focus Brands, and the vibe is different. The modern day franchisees know nothing of how Tom Carvel ran the business. And if they do, they prefer to do it their way...as if Tom Carvel didn't know any better. I could tell MANY stories about my incredulous experiences at a lot of these other Carvel stores...too many to even list here. But suffice it to say, many of these stores struggle to exist, and some close down. That didn't happen back in the day. Damian's family has been running this Carvel since those glory days. You'll be hard pressed today to find a Carvel that's run the right way...the Tom Carvel way. Look no further. It's right here in Woodbridge. It even has the old, light pastel colored blinds! You'll see them if you park on the side of the building. That's how you know this is the real deal. One of Tom Carvel's famous sayings is "Every cone should have extra sprinkles, and every cake should have extra crunchies." Tom Carvel was right, and you get that here. There is no chintzing at this Carvel store. You get your money's worth. The store is very busy so Damian needs a lot of help, and he hires the best. The servers are a happy, smiling, friendly, hard-working bunch...exactly what you would expect at an ice cream store. If you get Alecia, Kristin, Kaitlyn, or Amanda, you are in excellent hands because they are the pros who have been working there for years. But the newer servers are terrific as well, as they learned from the best. Well, that's it. It's Wednesday. Wednesday is Sundae.
