Had the nastiest craving for an ice cream sundae and I was just getting off work and this was the closest (literally on the other side of one other restaurant) . I had been meaning to try this place for the longest so it was the lucky winner for the day. Upon entering, the ice cream parlour is meticulously clean and looked very whimsical 10/10 branding, almost ridiculous for the fact it almost 6pm and it looked like it was ran by one old man for a very long time. I asked him a few questions like what was his favorite and although he answered somewhat pedantically, (claiming every flavor was amazing and that they've been in business for over 20 years) i ended up getting a sundae dasher with Oreo and peanut butter and it was delicious! It taste like McDonald's soft serve but taken to another level and the fudge and peanut butter was fresh and hot. It was a bit on the expensive side but I do feel like you get enough to satisfy what cravings you have with the small. I will definitely be back! read more

I have happy memories of Carvel. My aunt lives near one so of course, there were visits to Carvel for a cone or two. I just did not realize that Carvel existed outside the East Coast so when one showed up on my social feed - oh, happy days. And I had intended to stop by, many times, but somehow always had other things going on. So when I saw the sign en route elsewhere, I pulled in for a tasty treat. At this location, there were several freezer cases with pre-made treats. However, I was more interested in the colorful treats advertised in the store and went with the Bananas Foster Sundae Dasher. Imagine creamy vanilla soft serve with caramel sauce, diced bananas, and crunchies. Yum. Next time, I also plan to get a sundae with strawberry-flavored soft serve. This is the only location of Carvel Ice Cream & Cake Shop in Michigan. I was excited when it first opened 15 years ago. The next door neighbor is a nationally famous sports bar franchise. I'm sure some people spill over here afterward for dessert. On a recent trip, I visited on a Wednesday buy one, get one free sundae promotion. Some folks were sitting outside enjoying their frozen treat, however there was just one set of customers ahead of me. Ice cream cakes are a specialty of Carvel, and there were freezers stocked with some of those products on display. As I tried to take photos, the owner who was behind the service counter started hollering at me. He stated no photographs were allowed inside the shop. Wow, where was this policy posted and how was I supposed to be aware of it? You're telling me if parents bring their children, then they are not allowed to take pictures of them with their ice cream or anything else inside? It was peculiar why a dessert place that has been operating for well over a decade had only 55 reviews and 30 photos uploaded. Well, now I know why! Anyway, I didn't argue or complain for fear of being kicked out. I also didn't want to be a burden any longer than necessary. I quickly ordered two small sundae cups. The first contained soft serve vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce, whipped cream, and a cherry on top. The second was a swirl of soft serve chocolate and vanilla ice cream with hot fudge sauce, whipped cream, and a cherry on top. I paid and then took my order outside to eat on a bench and snapped photos as I pleased. Ice cream parlors are supposed to have a happy and fun atmosphere. The less than friendly encounter I experienced left a sour taste. I can't vouch for the inconsistent hours in which they are open compared to what's listed on the website because the most recent review was posted over four months ago. Perhaps the impact of the pandemic caused a worker shortage on top of inflation in the cost of goods. If the owner appreciated the power of social media and how influencers nowadays can exponentially increase the popularity of a business, then maybe he would reconsider his vigilance. My family and I visited on a Saturday and there was no other customers inside. The guy working was an older man. He did not greet us with a positive attitude. I was looking for cupcakes late in the evening and found this place through yelp. This was the only store that was open after 7pm. They don't allow you inside without a mask. Picked these ice reams from what was available .. Had limited options though, not very impressed.. It was normal ice cream and nothing great.. Just wished the taste matched its visual appeal. Finally went on a whim after my wife suggested we go (forget what we were orignally out shopping for) was in a mood for something new, this place fit! Great ice cream, very silky, smooth that is a huge difference from any other place. Good protions, friendly staff, clean place. It's not something I would get all the time (maybe once every couple months) but definetly recommend to co-workers and friends. Maybe a new commercial would help, other than that, keep doing what your doing. read more

The latest was when we tried to order an ice cream cake and the owner/manager was rude. He told us we werent listening correctly to him. This used to be my favorite place to get ice cream. I haven't been anywhere that has cake batter ice cream like this. I attempted to go here the past 3 days and they have been closed the last 3 days. Even when I called, it said they were open. Online it says their open. But each time I showed up, a piece of paper stating closed was on the door. I love this little ice cream franchise. Creamy and just super delicious. My fave thing to do is to buy their little premade *sundaes* from the freezer case, which are little cups of ice cream topped with various types of sprinkles and a cherry. Little enough they do not raise my blood sugar too badly but filling enough to satisfy my sweets craving. Shockingly good despite thinking they will be plain. Easily kept in the freezer for emergency need in a gallon sized ziploc. The owner is local and I think his mom is sometimes working in back. I have always gotten friendly service and good ice cream treats. The store is always clean and the atmosphere is cute. Kids love it. On Wednesdays they have two for the price of one actual sundaes with either scooped ice cream of choice or soft serve and topping. They may want to read and understand the CDC guidelines for who can and should not wear masks. My family and I came in after dinner with our 4 year old and 1 year old. My husband, 4 year old, and myself were wearing masks, but the guy behind the counter RUDELY told us "Everyone has to be wearing a mask." Excuse me, sir, no. It's been deemed scientifically DANGEROUS for a child under the age of 2 to wear a mask. I don't care if that's store policy that "everyone has to wear a mask". Look, I've lived here for 2 years. I have been here 4 times. They have had vanilla soft serve 0 times. VANILLA SOFT SERVE! The bedrock, the very foundation of an ice cream place seems to elude them. Do you know how many items on Carvel's menu use vanilla soft serve as its cornerstone ingredient? The answer is somewhere between 'very many' and 'nearly all'. This is essentially BWW saying they have no chicken. It's a bar with no liquor. It's McDonald's when they tell you "the shake machine's down for the night" except McDonald's at least compensates for it by, well, selling other stuff. The same cannot be said for an ice cream store that runs out of ice cream. I'm sure this is a fine franchise and has served the community well and perhaps I've just been unlucky. Talk about customer service the owner was alone working the evening shift. There was a line out the door. He handled each order with grace and humor. He took care with each order that came to the counter and handled it with the utmost professionalism. Even when it came to me and my food allergies he took the time to ensure he found a list of ingredients and showed it to me.
