Been coming to this Carvel ever since I was a child. The staff here are generally pretty friendly and attentive. There's always customers in the store whenever I've came here, which is usually at night time. The ice cream is generally pretty good here - very creamy but sometimes I think a lot of their flavors are lacking, seems a bit diluted by cream. My favorite things to get here are their sundaes and their soft serves. I've had a lot of childhood memories coming here with my family and relatives for birthday cakes or late night ice cream with the cousins after a BBQ or family gathering. They have a lot of parking in the back and street parking is generally plentiful around the area. read more

The HB Carvel Shop has nothing extra to offer it's a plain Jane Boring Shop and his prices are out of control with so so service !! Cold Stone .... let's just say it's not to my standards and the help always looks like they rolled in all their icecream n toppings !!! Oh Carvel. So much love, so many memories. You haven't changed a bit, girl. Believe it or not, this was one of our childhood ice cream parlors. Yes, Carvel on Coney Island Ave. What's not to love? The deep delicious chemical ice cream of her youth! It's still so creamy and thick and soft. Sprinkles galore! We took our kid here today after dinner (because: nostalgia) and all of us were happy. The inside was still closed so there's a little kiosk outside to order from and then they call you from the side window. The outdoor eating area (aka a parking lot with a tent in it) is filthy AF. But the ice cream is great! One of us was very happy to see the pistachio soft serve still available and got it with rainbow sprinkles; the other got vanilla-chocolate twist with peanut butter cup; the kiddo got oreo (hard!) with chocolate sprinkles. They have these "melt catcher" devices to hold the cone in and they're kind of genius for catching loose toppings. Anyway, this visit was for old times' sake. We love Carvel. Ice cream at this location is always super fresh and they oddly have such a large amount of soft serve machines here its insane! Do you know what this means?? Unique flavors like Biscoff cookie that can be served as soft serve and hard. They have some of my favorite flavors including my top pick maple walnut. The selection of cakes is on point! They have so many unique cakes with a LARGE SELECTION to choose from!! Some staff is better than others as they will ask if they can give you samples or if you need free cup of crunchies with the purchase of your cake and others are okay, for the most part I've always had good experiences at this location. I think all Carvel icecream runs around the same concept that has filled our hearts and bellies for decades but this Carvel really caters to its customers. The offerings are typical and they are also kosher. They are usually crowded on nice days but they have a large staff so they get people in and out, QUICK, so I need to give them credit. One thing which I didn't appreciate was when I called in to order our ice cream cake. That was delicious, but I honestly couldn't finish it even though I took small size of ice cream. They have 5 or 6 sizes, starting from *kids* ( the smallest one ). I have been coming here for a year after almost a two decade hiatus. It might be that previously the service was so so but i find it very good now. Everyone is attentive and although the crowd can feel overwhelming i dont ever feel rushed. As far as the taste... its ice cream what's not to like I have to give this place extra kuddos. my young son wanted to get his dad a cake for fathers day all on his own. He was a few dollars short and he was treated with utmost respect just like any other customer. A week later is a family members birthday and we give them another chance and the same result as the first. Now it's frustrating you pay for quality and you dont get what you pay for or what is advertised. This isn't professional at all, they shouldnt be selling cake and advertising it as "carvel cake" which normally has the even amount of vanilla and chocolate and a thick layer of cookie crunchies. You need better staff that will take the time and create the cake that is advertised. Don't go selling half ass cakes and expect customers to return. I'll be informing my friends and family to not waste their money here. What a shame, maybe corporate can give them a slap on the wrist. read more

They have classic flavors like vanilla and chocolate, as well as higher quality new flavors like strawberry cheesecake. I decided to go with the hard ice cream today because I wanted something that wouldn't melt 2 minutes after leaving the store LOL. I frequent Carvel when in need of a Vanilla Thick Shake Float. I could make one at home or go somewhere closer but Carvel seems to make one of the best renditions ever tasted. In terms of preparation, the Shake is created using an excessive amount of Vanilla Soft Serve, 3 Pumps of Vanilla Syrup, 1/4 Cup of Whole Milk, Blended, and Topped with even more Soft Serve and Whipped Cream. During consumption, patrons will find the shake to be thick, excessively thick! Almost similar to consuming just a soft serve itself. What should be emphasized is the balanced sweetness to that of the velvety texture of the shake. Patrons will find that the sweetness from the Soft Serve and Vanilla Syrup are more evident through the proper texture of the shake. Although at times the shake can be slightly excessive, the flavors are indeed welcoming, and an excellent treat for those hot summer days.
