Went in to purchase a product for my dog. Called prior and spoke with the owner. He recommended a product. Drove all the way there for the cashier Kathy to make me feel horrible. I was told by her, "The owner has no idea what he is talking about!" Starts raising her voice to my mother asking her, "if our dogs has fleas? Did we use a fine tooth comb?" Telling another customer all of our business saying she works for a vet. Legitimately the entire store was listening. I was in fear my dog had gotten Mange due to all the ferals my neighbor feeds. She continues to cut us off. Yelling "Does your dog sleep with them?" Raising her hands. I have never been so embarrassed in my entire life. I gave them 1 star for the other workers. Kathy definitely needs an attitude adjustment. And sharing personal business. Never going back there again. Shame on her! read more

I went over to the Lakeside location, and picked up a couple bags of pellets, a first time customer, and the younger man actually brought two bags to my car and put them in my car before I even arrived to my car. If I could give Carters Hay & Grain 6 stars I would have, since they are excellent with customer service. It's funny how that a small business can give you first class customer service like Carters, but the whole economy like the fueling industry cannot even get out of the business where they sell stuff in the fueling station store, that they cannot pump your gas any longer or offer to add oil, wash your front windows, etc. for the over charging of fuel in our country. Carters is excellent and they have a range of products throughout the store for small animals to horses. Definitely a place that I would recommend for anyone looking to save a few dollars in today's economy. read more

On sundays from 9:30am-12:30pm they have a low cost pet vaccination booth in the parking lot Never really went in the store before, but thought I would check out the cat food prices. I normally pay $10.00+ tax for a 5lb bag of IAMS food at Target. hey had a almost 18lb bag here (less trips) for $31.00 (includes tax) Basically means I got a few extra pounds in there Lady at the counter was very nice. Seems like an unassuming mom and pop type place you could easily miss when driving. Not sure what else they have, but I was satisfied with my trip there read more

Love love Carter's!! My husband and I moved here in lakeside a few Months ago right next to Carter's and I figured Id just stop by to check it out. They have good bones, good food, the people are always really nice and help me to my car. Been there a few times but won't be going there anymore. Kathy is very rude and will try and talk to you like you're an idiot if you ask a question. Kathy is somewhat polite with the customers in front of them, but on multiple occasions I have heard her talk about other customers very poorly behind their backs. and I have seen her talk to a customer on the phone and then flip off the phone as soon as she hangs up with them. That is something you should never do in front of your customers. everyone else' there is not bad and pretty knowledgeable. It's a shame that a place like this has a poor manager like her. read more

Carters is my Go-To for horse feed, supplements and care products. The staff is always happy to answer my questions and offer up suggestions when I (sometimes poorly) try to explain what I'm looking for. Their prices are better than anywhere else locally for supplements, treats and grooming supplies. They are always happy to load the heavy stuff into my truck for me, and even bag my hay for me so I don't have to wrestle with it! We live down the street from carters and are regulars here. Everyone that works here is wonderful and extremely helpful. We are new to racing livestock and Kathy is a wealth of information specially when it comes to goats. Love talking to her and asking her questions because she doesnt make you feel dumb and takes the time to explain things to you. They have a great selection and the whole staff makes you feel like family. This is my Favorite Feed store in town. They hae the best prices on chicks and usally have a good stock of new chicks. The little store is jam packed and hard to get around - but the service is outstanding! Someone will always answer the phone and provide you with answers to your odd questions. I buy everything there from my dogs advantage to my shampoo for my llama and feed for my pot belly pig. I never feel like i'm bothering anyone with silly questions when i call. The parking is very close to the front door. There prices on Advantage kicks everyone elses butt but a mile They don't nickle and dime you and try to sell you stuff you don't need. Chances are they price is better then everyone elses in town. I go there first and purchase 95% of my feed from them. They even have Sunday hours - you can't beat that with a stick. read more

One of the best feed stores in town. They have great knowledge and they're always willing to help. They also have a good selection of organic feeds and animal meds. One time an issue came up with some mineral in my chicken feed (manganese or something). One of the guys took me back to the feed room and we looked at the ingredients in all the bags. Lacking in customer service I normally buy my dog's food online, but waited too long and he was completely OUT. I figured I would try this place as I had been here once before and noticed they carried the same brand. (A middle aged woman was at the counter that time, not very nice.) Anyway, I find the HUGE and HEAVY bag of dog food, and since there is no one to be found anywhere, lug it up to the counter where an older man is on the phone. He looks at me and continues to talk. There is no place to set this bag, as the counter is a mess. I then have to up-end the bag so he can read the price sticker. I pay and walk out struggling with the giant bag. He doesn't offer to help, or find anyone who can. No "thanks" or "have a nice day" -nothing. If you want to set yourself apart in a world where small businesses struggle to compete with internet companies, here is your secret weapon: CUSTOMER SERVICE. At least ACT happy to see someone who attempts to do business with you. I will be sure to order my dog food online in plenty of time for front door delivery next time.
