This is a copy of my formal complaint. I am writing to…read moreformally report multiple serious incidents at your center involving unsafe medical procedures, inaccurate documentation, and unprofessional behavior from several staff members. Several months ago, during my donation, the needle was not inserted correctly. It was partially hanging out of my arm and causing bleeding and significant pain. I told the technician that I was in pain, and I showed them the blood that had just begun to pool and drip from the insertion site. I was told this was "normal," even though the needle was visibly not positioned correctly. This dismissal of my pain and the visible bleeding was entirely inappropriate and unsafe. I have attached a photo from that donation which clearly shows the needle improperly inserted and blood leaking from the site. I had been feeling completely fine until this occurred. Instead of acknowledging the improper needle placement, I was told that the reaction happened because I "didn't eat or drink enough," which was not true. After removing me from the machine, I was given something to eat and drink, told to sit for 15 minutes, and then instructed to leave. I followed every direction I was given. Later, I learned that this donation was coded as "the donor wasn't feeling well," which is inaccurate and misleading. I was not "feeling unwell" -- I was reacting to a procedural error. I want to know what potential medical complications I was exposed to due to a needle being improperly inserted and partially hanging out of my arm. Based on standard plasma donation safety guidelines, I could have suffered: Hematoma / internal bleeding Infiltration or extravasation (blood or return fluids entering tissue) Nerve irritation or nerve injury Tissue damage Infection at the insertion site Arterial nicking, depending on angle and position A vasovagal reaction triggered by pain and blood loss These are real medical risks, and none of them were acknowledged or addressed by your staff. During my most recent visit, my fingerprint would not register. A technician tried multiple machines before checking the system. She found an error message stating that I had "left without being released" during that previous donation -- which is completely false. I was released by the nurse after being told to eat, drink, and wait. Your staff gave me permission to leave. When I asked why my fingerprint was missing and why inaccurate notes were in the system, the nurse became combative and dismissive. She argued with me, insisted nothing was wrong, and went so far as to call me a liar. This is unacceptable behavior, especially given the safety issues that occurred. At the front desk, I was met with more hostility. The staff member spoke to me in a confrontational tone that felt aggressive and unprofessional. Had a supervisor not walked over at that moment, the situation could have escalated. Additionally, when you ask staff for their names -- including supervisors -- they claim they do not have to provide them. This lack of transparency is inappropriate in a medical setting where accountability is essential. Because of all of this, I am requesting: A full investigation into the improper needle insertion and the staff's refusal to take my report of pain and bleeding seriously. A formal explanation of the medical risks associated with the needle being inserted incorrectly and partially hanging out of my arm. A correction of the inaccurate system record stating I left without being released, and the inaccurate coding of the incident as "donor didn't feel well." A review of the conduct of the nurse, the technician, and the front desk staff. Clarification of BioLife's policy on staff identifying themselves when a donor asks for their name. Assurance that appropriate retraining and corrective action will be taken. I take donation seriously and have always done my part to follow procedures. What I experienced instead was unsafe medical practice, inaccurate reporting, and openly hostile treatment. I expect a timely and thorough response regarding what steps will be taken to address these issues.

I'm not new to this group and I can confirm there's been a shift in the past few months. The management is micro managing the employees and they have become robotic, inefficient and RUDE. From the front staff to management something's gone south! Management walks around like they are Gods making smirky reprimands to staff right in front of clients. That's me. I'm the client and I'm about 10 seconds from walking away and never returning. In addition to the negative environment I've experienced, I recently noticed staff/phlebotomist's with 1-1.5 inch fake nails. This is just gross. I don't want someone who wipes their butt with fake nails that could easily break the protective gloves exposing my blood stream to the disgusting crap hiding under their fake nails. How is this even allowed? Studies show that human nails are an incubator for germs and viruses. Add the fakes that trap more and you have a breeding ground for bacteria. You people need to rethink your management choices and heads need to roll. I have donated with this center for years and have stayed at this OP Plano center for well over a year and have without feeling a need to rotate out to any other center or company. So, Five Stars for them. OctaPharma corporate and information services (push info on the app, customer service phone center, is ABSOLUTE:LY HORRIBLE. "Lies, damned lies, and OctaPharma Customer Service information" - Benjamin Disraeli Yesterday morning, due to the fact that people in my part of the South (USA) get scared to death when a snowflake falls, I called in to see if my center was open. Remember, with OctaPharma, the ONLY way we have to know such information is to call in to the Customer "Service" Center (CSC). They think that all kinds of info pushes out on the OctaApp that doesn't. So, one has to call. Of course, I called at 7:15 because forgot that despite the donation centers being open 7am-7pm, the bottleneck/CSC is only open during "normal business hours" 9am-5pm. So, I waited. My app was telling me I was able to donate but I suspect that is only "me" info, not taking into account anything about the donation center, and I didn't want to make the drive if they weren't open. Thus, just before 10am, I called back and got a rep on the phone: "Your center is open today from 7am-7pm." "You are sure that this info is good for the Plano TX center?" "Yes, that center is open from 7am-7pm." "And that is info for today, correct?" "Correct." So, I had a few errands to do and wanted to let meals kick in, so I went to the center at 5pm. Sign on the door said (not exact wording): "Reduced hours today. Our center will be open from 10am until 4pm." Arrrgh. I called the CSC and asked what hours the center would be open. "That center will be open from 10am until 4pm." Hmmm. "Are you able to tell what time you received that notification?" "Yes, sir, we received it at 10:03 am." So, either the center did not inform the CSC of their decision about operating hours until at least 3 hours after the center's decision was made (to not open at 7am) or the CSC had the info available but did not push it out officially to the reps for up to 3 hours after receiving it. I seriously doubt that the donation center left the phone center uninformed. I checked with the donation center and learned that they had made the modified-hours decision DAYS prior to the ice storm. I cannot believe for a moment they kept this decision secret for several days. And, of course, none of this updated-hours info was on the OctaApp beyond a message that some centers might be closed and donors should check first before going. Forcing us through this info bottleneck of uninformed script-readers and then ALSO giving out completely false information makes OctaPharma the worst of the worst in my opinion when it comes to helping donors with information. The drive in to the center wasn't hazardous, but it was very slow. They wasted my time yet again by not having the right info available in the right place at the right time, and essentially lying to donors. Everything else about OctaPharma is really great, as far as I'm concerned. But their corporate setup for info sharing is ATROCIOUS .

What a waste of time. NO MORE. Whoever is responsible for the quarterly protein tests is NOT doing their job accurately and I have proof this time. Bye bye

The KedPlasma personnel then instructed me to thoroughly review the information in a Binder with health facts and other basic deferral knowledge. In this Binder it states "A recent tattoo may affect your eligibility to donate for a period of 4 months up to 12 months, depending on the state in which the tattoo was applied. You may be eligible to donate if your tattoos are older." After reviewing the information in the binder I was instructed to watch a 20 minute video that basically reiterated the information given in the Health Binder. After the video then came a 50+ questionnaire that I accurately completed. Then came the Health screening that was given to me by an impeccably courteous staff member by the name of Aseel. After passing the Screening I met with the Physician, a very colorful woman by the name of Brandi, with a tattoo of a Caterpillar on one ear and a Butterfly on the other. As a part of the physical she had to log all of my tattoos in detail so they would be able to tell if I ever received any new tattoos in the future. Which makes complete sense because hepatitis can be received through dirty needles that could possibly come from a tattoo, but my tattoos are 8 years old and healthy. After logging the tattoos on my forearms we came to the one on my left pectoral and then Brandi the Physician stated "It is the Policy of KedPlasma to deny anyone with a gang tattoo." I am a 27 year old black male that has been denied an opportunity to donate plasma at their facility not because of my health but because my tattoo is GANG RELATED. I have donated at the CSL Plasma and Octapharma Plasma centers with these same tattoos and was not denied. What my tattoo says should not determine the value of the person that who is donating. This is the clearest practice of discrimination I have ever endured and I deeply believe that "Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are." -Benjamin Franklin
