My wife and I were looking for a minivan and really liked the Honda Odyssey Elite. We had a completely different experience than it seems others have had. Cartelligent was nothing but an unhelpful roadblock for us. We were wanting a specific color combination on a vehicle from Acura (they don't allow you to order a specific vehicle). We were spending a lot of time trying to track this down on web sites, etc, so we thought we would try Cartelligent. The salesperson (Vincent) assured us that they could find it quicker, easier and for a better price than we could on our own and would get the "first one that became available in California". We told him that sounded great and we wanted it as soon as possible. After he looked around he said "oh that's a very rare combination and the only way to get it is to order it". We explained "but Acura told us they can't order a car". Oh no we were assured, he found a dealership that could do this for us. So we placed a deposit and completed a credit application. We were told eight weeks or so for a time frame, but communication was horrible. Every couple of weeks we would have to reach out and try to get updates from our salesperson-- he was NEVER proactive and seemed very disinterested in dealing with us. One day we noticed on the Acura site that the car we wanted was on the lot at a local dealer. We inquired with our Cartelligent salesperson, and were told not to trust the web site and that the quickest way to get our vehicle would be to "stay the course" with our current "order" So we waited some more. Then we checked the Acura site again and saw ANOTHER local dealer had the car we wanted on the lot. At that point we felt like we had nothing to lose, so we contacted the dealership ourselves. The next day we were driving home with the car we wanted, no help from Cartelligent. We contacted our salesperson to get our deposit back. He said he would get it for us, but after a week of not hearing back we just contacted the dealer directly that we knew was holding our deposit to initiate a refund. And to this day we still haven't heard another peep from our salesperson. So for us, Cartelligent brought nothing to the table other than holding up the process and causing a bigger hassle. read more

Hilary was INCREDIBLY responsive as an advocate for us, both during the purchase process as well as a full year later when a VIN # mistake surfaced. Firstly, if you've not used a service like Cartelligent before, it turns car buying from an unpleasant & opaque process into an easy one. Just as with the use of a mortgage broker when buying a home, you have a professional advocate representing YOUR interests. We never even had to visit the dealer where our car was sourced, as the paperwork and car were delivered to our home. A year later, we realized upon registration renewal that one number of the VIN was copied incorrectly, creating a huge paperwork headache and necessitating an unpleasant trip to the DMV. I CC'd Hilary just to keep her in the loop and she responded within minutes and volunteered to again advocate on our behalf with the dealer. Just as you don't want to go to court without a lawyer advocating your position, I wouldn't want to buy a new car without Hilary negotiating and handling the logistics for you. I initially contacted Cartelligent when I was looking to purchase a new Mercedes SUV. We had already been to the dealer and driven the car, so we already knew what we wanted. We were an easy sale. I communicated with Hilary Lucas via telephone and e-mail, as a referral from a member of my family. Unfortunately, Cartelligent requires a $500 prepayment JUST to QUOTE you for the purchase of a new vehicle. If you don't end up completing the sale with Cartelligent, they will refund you the $500, but this seemed like a needless step and hassle we didn't want to deal with - charging $500 to my card just for them to give me a quote when the dealer was willing to quote me for free. We ended up giving the dealer a low-ball offer and they ended up accepting, much to our surprise. When I told Hilary via e-mail that we no longer needed Cartelligent's service for the new car purchase since we had decided to purchase through the dealer, she seemed to be upset and snippy at me in return. She wrote in a response e-mail, quote: "I understand your concerns but doing 3,000 cars a year with 500+ being MB's guarantees you we are the only way to buy and order a car. Our Yelp reviews back us up. Apologies for not explaining what we do better - just very concerned for you as there is no way you will pay less by doing it the way you did." I felt her last sentence was arrogant, condescending and almost scolding, by telling me there was "no way we would pay less by doing it the way we did." How does she know that? I never told her what we offered. How is Hilary so certain we were paying more than we should have? She didn't know what our offer was! Nevertheless, I still had my old car I needed to sell, so I told Hilary I'd contact her again when I was ready to sell my 2013 Honda Accord. When the time came, I e-mailed Hilary again that I was ready to proceed with Cartelligent making me an offer on my car, and she never responded! I guess her ignoring me was her revenge for us not purchasing my new Mercedes through her. When she failed to acknowledge my e-mail after 48 hours, I called Cartelligent's San Jose office and spoke with Brendan Quibelan, who was extremely friendly and happy to help me gain a quote from Cartelligent for the purchase of my old car. I then e-mailed Hilary a second time letting her know that I was now working with the San Jose office, and she ignored that too. So, if you're looking for a woman to get snippy & rude with you if you don't end up purchasing your expensive car through her, and then ignore you when you still (stupidly) contact her again to sell your old car, Hilary Lucas is your woman. I was in the market for a 2018/2019 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JL Sahara and decided to try Cartelligent out as I was having trouble finding the exact options I wanted. I started the service on February 5th and things started out great. Keith pulled together a list of vehicle options in two days and we found one exact match. The price was ok, I think in person I could have gotten a slightly better deal. Taking the Cartelligent fee into account I ended up saving about $2500 off of MSRP. Then everything went off the rails. After some back and forth I decided I wanted the car, but would like see some pictures and get a look at the window sticker. Keith said he would secure the vehicle and get back to me with what I requested. I sent an email two days later....no response. 4 days pass (Feb 11th) and I am told the car has not been secured. Finally on February 14th I get the news the car is mine, but now the logistics on the delivery need to be made. Long story short there were further delays and I finally took possession on February 25th. Now I understand my experience may not be typical. The dealer who originally had the vehicle was unresponsive and unprofessional (according to Cartelligent), there was a mechanical issue with the delivery truck and finally there was miscommunication on when the car would actually reach Walnut Creek. Still, I can't say the experience was better than dealing with a dealer directly. All that being said, I am still giving them 3 stars because they did find the vehicle I was unable to, although given how long it took to get the car I probably could have found one during the time I was waiting for the Jeep to arrive. Just know that Cartelligent does not own the entire buying experience soup to nuts and your mileage may vary. read more

Cartelligent didn't really work for me. First, let me explain what they do: you figure out what car you want, they go out and find it and negotiate a price, they do all the paperwork with you and deliver your car. You pay them a flat $500, and the hope is that they are going to negotiate a better price than you can, and eliminate a lot of the hassle. This probably works really well for people who (a) have a very specific idea of what they want, and (b) don't want anything at all to do with the buying experience. I think the pricing they secure is good, but nothing you can't accomplish on your own if have the time or inclination. Which is why it probably makes sense for those who don't. In my case, I was fuzzy on what I wanted and still had to test drive a whole bunch of stuff. As a result, we had a couple of back and forths that they mistakenly interpreted as my not wanting them to move forward. Radio silence ensued... Luckily, they didn't charge me in the end, so no harm and no foul. So the lesson in my mind is that if you're going to use Cartelligent, be ultra clear about what you want and overcommunicate with them if you don't hear back. If you have any doubts about what you want and need to test drive different cars, you might as well just finish the deal yourself. read more

Kind of pointless. If you want someone to do everything with you, its not bad, but their pricing and negotiation is worse than what I can and did do on my own. Furthermore, communication is a bit painstaking and they want calls for everything, rather than leveraging e-mail. They kind of feel like a travel agent solution to a new online-web world. Would avoid them and go with a modern approach. They will not save you anything material in money, and may save you time if you hate cars. read more

Last week I purchased a new car through Cartelligent, and it was the best experience... I had gone to my local Subaru dealership a few times, getting an idea of what car we wanted. Test drove the Forester and loved it. Spoke with an employee for a bit about the different models/packages, and I settled on one of them. The dealer explained they have that car on a different lot, but how about *this* one right here??? (wrong color, wrong package). No thank you, I'd really rather have *that* one. Somehow, what I just described took an hour and a half. Then I mentioned to a friend at a BBQ that I was car shopping. My friend says, hey, you should try Cartelligent. I called and left a message on a Sunday. Darren from the Danville office called back Monday morning. I described what I was looking for, and 2 days later he had found the car we wanted, at a great price to boot. The following Monday the car was ready for pick up. Know the vehicle you're interested in or at least narrow it down. For a nominal broker's fee you will have your vehicle when you want. Hilary was great throughout the process. Decent service if you want to avoid the inconvenience of going to the dealership, not good if you want to get the best pricing on new car. Today I got time so... Long story short: they got me the wrong car (I wanted blind spot sensors and you can only tell once you drive a Wrangler) and I only realized this after signing the contract. Fortunately, I realized this in time (like 10 minutes after driving the car from the Walnut Creek office) and took the car back and got refunded. Not a good service if you prefer to communicate via email. Many of us that work days jobs do not have the time to answer multiple calls per day whenever they find options. I expressed my desire to communicate primarily via email and Michael kept calling with information that he could've emailed. All the time spent communicating with Michael was a waste because I was better off going to the dealership and ordering my Jeep Wrangler to my exact specifications. I got my Jeep for $1,600 less than the one I had signed a contract for and got my Cartelligent fee back bringing my total savings to $2,000. No one cares about your money as much as you do. When I requested that Michael offer the dealership slightly less than asking price, he quickly responded that there was no way and I was already getting a below market value price. When I asked Michael where the Jeep was located because I wanted to see in person (to confirm it was exactly what I wanted) he said all the info he had on the car was that it was "nor cal." When I told Michael I needed time to sleep on it, Michael said there was exactly one Jeep in all CA with my specs... no pressure? I got the overall impression that they are busy, which is understandable, and they do not have time to be a true advocate. Even after I let Michael know he dropped the ball, and I wanted my money back I didn't get an apology. I'm sure that apology is coming soon... Update: the Cartelligent team reached out offered a few thoughtful ways to correct our situation. We are confident that Cartelligent provides a great service that protects consumers from aggressive dealership tactics (the reason we initially decided to work with them) and that our situation was unique. I contacted agent indicting which specific car with model color and price. I also explained the proice offered by a specific dealer. Based on the price provided by me, he already came to conclusion that they would not be able to get price close to it and I asked him to check and get back to me. After few minutes this agent comes back to me stating that they will not be even able to get a price close to what's been offered by a dealer.
