My boyfriend and I went at the beginning of January on a short trip to Grant's Pass. Carson's was recommended to us by a lot of people we met during the day. We shared the warm artichoke dip. My boyfriend got steelhead trout and I had the spaghetti and meatballs. We shared the peanut butter pie for dessert. I am writing this review specifically so more people know about the pie. One of the women that recommended Carsons to us started salivating when talking about it. My boyfriend still won't stop talking about it 2 weeks later. We're moving across the country, but I have a feeling he's going to make me come back to the west coast just for the peanut butter pie in Grant's Pass at this tiny Italian restaurant. Its a sweet whipped peanut butter pie on a salty crushed pretzel crush with a chocolate fudge sauce-like layer finished with chopped peanuts sprinkled on top. We also loved the dip (very rich and didn't feel like just basic cream cheese with artichoke in it). My boyfriend especially love the fish. My pasta was normal, nothing special, but enjoyable. The decoration and atmosphere is really lovely. The service was great and I think the owners were walking around talking to people too. Overall it was around $80 with tip for the entire meal. For the area it is a little pricey, but it was more than worth it. In the bay area $70 doesn't necessarily mean a good meal or good service. Carsons had both. read more

Joined another couple that came over from Talent to have dinner at us Carson's. Boy were we surprised! We got the Carson's Broken Arm Summer Menu. Carson, owner and Chef had a little accident on the river this year and is making the best of it. Jolie his beautiful wife, we found out had done all the interior decorating of this, quaint comfortable and clean, dinner house. Our server was very attentive and gracious. We each ordered different items of the menu, everyone had something good to say about their choice. I had the Thai-style Coconut Chicken with Basmati Rice, yummy and I even brought the rest home. Aloha to Carson's Bistro from across the Pacific! Almost didn't want to post this as I wanted to make sure I got a table the next time I drove through. Tired and hungry on a road trip from Reno to Portland, we decided on a "chance" stop here for dinner. Cheri welcomed us in with personal service and brought her style of island aloha to our table. Excellent wines were selected for us. From the crab cake appetizers to the golden beet salad to the cioppino dinner, everything was tasty with an attention to detail and savoriness that we've experienced at some of the best fine dining establishments. In these hard times I could not go out to eat on my anniversary so instead we ordered takeout from this restaurant that we have eaten that many times before. This place called Carson's Bistro ( pronounced Kar- sons Bee - stro) has good and yummy food that will make your stomach smile and your mouth full. I ordered something called Meatloaf. This was meat in loaf form. I am a lover of food in the form of loaves and this did not disappoint my mouth. I was so excited when the meat in a loaf form came over to my table that when I took the first bite, it was such a big bite my mouth almost dropped the food out all over my new corduroy pants. This meat loaf was by far the best loaf I have ever put in my mouth and then swallowed. They also did some thing new and put smashed up potatoes on the side which they called mashed potatoes. This was so good too. I took a bite and smiled and said "this is so good too". The nice thing about this meal was that even if I had no teeth I could eat it all. Thank you Carson's Bistro for making food that people with teeth or without teeth can very much enjoy putting in their mouth's. If you want good food you should eat here too, like me. read more

One of our favorite places! Carson's is always consistent with their fresh, farm to table approach. Everything we have ordered exceeds expectations. One of our favorites to start the meal is the cheese board. With several selections, local preserves or honey and delicious meat options it is almost like a meal in itself! The meatloaf is so good and never "ordinary" the steelhead was exceptional and the local wine selection has lead to a few new wine memberships for us! Was skeptical that a restaurant could have over 40 reviews, all 5 stars. However, I had dinner there today and I now see why, this restaurant is the best. The place is spotless, the help friendly and efficient and he food is over the top. I love Italian food, but pasta is not good for the waist. They offer their past sauces with spaghetti squash instead of pasta for a small up charge. I have not found any other restaurant that offers that option. This place is well worth 5 stars, I just wish it was closer to home. Whenever I'm traveling by Grants Pass, this is my go to restaurant. read more

Well I have been here 3 times now in less than a year and I still have to say at least in my book this is probably my favorite restaurant for Grant's Pass. The food is to die for. Great atmosphere and the service is excellent. Love the fact that both the owners are there always working and they love to to make sure that you have the best experience in there establishment. We will definitely be back for sure. You should check it out yourself as well. The food menu does change from time as far as seasonal and there food is locally sourced. I can't say enough good things about this new discovery. Took my BFF to Carson's Bistro last evening for her birthday celebration dinner. Neither of us had ever dined here before. Warmly greeted at the door and promptly seated. It's not a big place, but seating has been thoughtfully arranged and artfully separated so you can enjoy your conversation without straining to hear or having to speak over loud music or other conversations nearby. Sheri was our waitress and what gem! Great smile, friendly, explained the menu and answered our questions. We decided to share two different dishes. I ordered the Grilled Cheese on Rosemary bread from Ashland OR bakery with the soup of the day ($13), a roasted vegetable cream bisque. My BFF ordered the Chicken Pot Pie ($23), which came with lightly dressed arugula and tomato salad and a slice of the Rosemary Bread. We each ordered a glass of wine (around $7-8), a Riesling and a Chardonnay, both xlnt, and recommended by Sheri, with our meal choices. We also had a chilled full carafe of cold water placed on our table. The food arrived promptly and from our first bite we both agreed we were impressed and "in heaven". The pot pie is made on the premises, from scratch, using locally sourced fresh seasonal vegetables, with a generous amount of chunks of moist white meat chicken, seasoned perfectly, flaky light crust, with a light, not heavy or thick sauce inside. The pot pie is more than enough for two to share and the arugula/tomato salad is a great accompaniment, along with the slice of warm, thick, airy rosemary bread. No butter required for this bread - it's that good all by itself. Now to my grilled cheese....BEST GC I've EVER had! Gooey, multiple layers of lightly grilled melted cheeses tucked in the thick, but airy warm rosemary bread. Again, easily enough for two people to share and we did, along with the beautiful root vegetable bisque. You can also get a tomato bisque with your grilled cheese instead. And then we decided on sharing a dessert. Lots of choices here, two different kinds of crem brûlée, a flourless chocolate cake with vanilla bean ice cream, a pumpkin cheesecake, or a peanut butter pie with chocolate ganache and a pretzel and peanut crust. We decided on the peanut butter pie - true decadence and no regrets - the diet can restart tomorrow. With everything except the dessert, our bill was $51, which did not include the dessert because Sheri said it was on the house as it was a birthday celebration. We both truly enjoyed it all and will def return very soon. They have an interesting, well priced menu with interesting appetizers, an antipasto salad, a few Italian main dishes, Osso Bussco, meatloaf (I'm going for that next visit, but it will be really hard to skip the grilled cheese), along with trout, steak entrees, I believe. The dinner special was an Ahi with wasabi, but they had run out before we arrived at 7:30pm. Service was very attentive and courteous, and Carson's wife stopped by our table to see how we'd enjoy our dinner; a very nice touch as well. Their menu is eclectic and all homemade on the premises. The menu offerings change with the seasons and what vegetables are available locally, so what you see on their website, like the sliders, may not be on the menu when you go. So happy Carson's Bistro is serving up some of the best, freshest food in Grants Pass. Can't believe they've been right under our noses for two years, but so happy we found them. We enjoyed the whole experience, every morsel, and will return soon. Located in H St across from Napa Auto Parts (the old Chet's Garden Ctr). We only ordered beer and dessert but I would highly recommend. Everything is house-made except the bread which they get from rising sun bakery in Jacksonville. This place was amazing. My boyfriend is kind of a snob with food, but he was loving everything that came out of the kitchen! We had the Mac & cheese appetizer to start. We visited while returning from a trip to Washington and stayed the night in Grant's Pass. We found Carson's Bistro to be as delightful as the town itself. The ambience was comfortable yet chic and the service was terrific. The meal was tasty, satisfying all four of us. The winner hands down was the meatloaf and the fresh vegetables which were perfectly prepared. We only wish we would have had room for the desserts which looked amazing. We will undoubtedly visit again and Carson's Bistro will be a must for dinner. The menu, while not extensive, has a variety of dishes to satisfy all tastes. Reservations needed! read more
