WHISKY AND WINE ... FOOD UNIQUE AND FINE BACKSTORY My friend Mike received a tip on some whisky bars and wine bars in Grants Pass. Specifically a whiskey and wine bar combination with great food. He wanted to treat me to some good food in GP during my visit. So, I am game to try anything new and different ... I'm glad we did! FIRST IMPRESSIONS Upon pulling up, I noticed the parking lot was full! A good sign in my estimation!!!! He has a big truck and fortunately somebody was pulling out and he took the last spot. When I walked in, it looked relaxed. No one greeted me at the door so I walked through to look for a place where we might enjoy our evening. We settled on a tall bar table in the back porch. Heaters were on... It was comfortable! SERVICE We were greeted by a kind and fun waitress. She handed us our menus and came back promptly to take our drink orders. I'm a big water guy and throughout the entire evening she made sure my water was filled. Service was excellent! Between our waitress and the owner periodically checking in on us, we had a good time! ATMOSPHERE The atmosphere is relaxed. Tables are spaced out. There is garden style seating, restaurant cafe tables, and plenty of space to move around. They have a cornhole tournament area and fire tables. There seems to be music periodically because there was a stage set up in the back. Simple & relaxed, nice atmosphere ... like a combo of my backyard with a bunch of friends laughing while being served by excellent caterers... Easy place to relax! FOOD ... EATS We were not too hungry so we ordered flatbread and potato chip nachos. Excellent bar food with a gourmet twist. Food was flavorful and served hot! Check out my photos of the potato chip nachos with perfectly cooked moist carnitas and drizzled in a special aïoli sauce. Delishhhhh! BOTTOMLINE if you're looking for a nice whiskey bar with good food or you're looking for a wine bar with some excellent tapas in Grants Pass, Oregon... I recommend you check the Toasted Barrel out! By the way... The owner retired from the crazy corporate world. She fell in love with this old 1930's barn and turned this community gem of a building into a delightful place to sample whisky and taste wine all the while enjoying your friends! Check out the history wall and ask her about her plans!!!! So cool! You won't be disappointed.

What a cool place! Friendly neighborhood vibe. The parking lot gets a little full but what a great problem for a small business to have. The food was great, we tried a fish sandwich, chicken sandwich and Caesar salad and drinks haha lots of different drinks. Their menu is generous with lots of drink options and nice variety of sandwiches, salads and other things. It took a little while to get someone to come over to the table but honestly it didn't really matter, the rest of the experience was great.

The toasted barrel is a cute bar to hang out at. It can get crowded on the weekends but if you're into a crowd, music, and outdoor space that generally has live music, it will be the place for you. If you wish to beat the crowd early afternoon is my go to. Drinks are good and food is ok.

The best new place in Grants pass! The remodel and new vision for the bar that has been around since the 30's is so well done. Food and drink were delicious amd the staff was friendly and welcoming.

Toasted Barrel is by far my favorite place to be with friends, Great service, environment, menu and drinks! Brie and Tish are the absolute best definitely will be coming back

Nice place to have a glass of wine, with a large selection to choose from. The whiskey selection also is very nice. Seating is relaxed, with a bar, lounging chairs, couches outdoor seating in back with tv for game days. Have outdoor kids seating in front for food until 9 pm. Place is relaxed and feels very comfortable.

It is a Victorian Mansion. (With several ghosts) set on a hill. The food was delicious, the ambiance was delightful, and service was attentive but not "in your face". The whole evening was special.

It has been a year since I've been to the Parrot House and wanting to try their reinstated buffet…read more I like a buffet where you can try different foods. I really wanted to like this place because it's the one fairly fancy place in town...but, it was a disappointing experience. We got to the restaurant for our 10am reservation but the door didn't open until exactly 10. People huddled under the porch because it was raining fairly hard. We were shown inside, then back outside to another room to our table. We ordered and they said the buffet was in the tent-outside. So, coat & rain hood back on to go to the buffet. Unfortunately, the buffet wasn't ready so we went back to our seats. The buffet wasn't ready for around 20 minutes-because some of the kitchen crew called in sick so they were operating with less help. The remaining crew was working hard to get it set up. So they were doing a good job-they just needed more help. The buffet had: Eggs, Potatoes, Bacon, Sausage, Biscuits & Gravy, Jalapeño Cheddar Bagels, Smoked Salmon, Salad, Dressing, Potato Dill Soup, an Omelet bar and Prime Rib. Unfortunately, most of the food we got wasn't warm. I think the top of the chafing dishes were able to cool off, even though, the bottom was hot. Didn't know that until going back in. Thats a dangerous situation where bacteria can grow. The bread was excellent. It was a chewy Italian bread. The butter balls were firm so hard to spread. There were bagels and smoked salmon but it would have been nice to have something other than just jalapeño cheddar bagels for the smoked salmon. Maybe, get something more neutral in flavor that more people would eat. I think I have fairly normal tastes and love biscuits & gravy but the biscuits and gravy had an odd flavor to me. I wasn't a fan but that may be a preference. The prime rib was ok but not terribly tasty. The Potato dill soup was just ok, too. The omelet bar probably was the safe choice since you pick your ingredients but I make those often at home so I wanted to try other things. I think they are trying to be fancy instead of just making good food that everybody would like. Service was good. We did have to wait for coffee but overall they were nice and did a good job letting people know when the buffet was ready. Overall: Ambiance is 5/5; Service 4/5, Food-the temperature, late food and having to walk in the rain to the tent and back with a plate of food while getting rained on drops the overall score to 3/5. Opening that heavy door with a plate of food is a problem, too. Maybe have the tent right outside the entrance to the main dining room so your customers and their full plates don't have to be out in the rain. There has to be a better way.

My co-workers and I were in town for work and were thoroughly impress at how fresh their sushi tasted. For starters, we had their lobster tempura, yellowtail carpaccio, Sunshine roll. and edamame. I probably would have preferred their regular tempura, but their yellowtail carpaccio was delicious. Another standout was their sunshine roll. For main entree, we each ordered a sashimi/nigiri set. Their selection of nigiri fishes were standard but good. As for dessert, we had shared their creme brulee which was perfect to end our meal.

In the rolls, the chef had an ability to pair ingredients that emphasized texture, all the while working in excellent flavors. The darru and surf and turf rolls were a highlight. The sea urchin roll was out-of-this-world, like a bite of delicious ocean. Starting with the wagyu sliders was a great contrast to the cold sushi dishes. Fatty beef, seared, with salty seasoning and pickles. Excellent! The service was struggling the night we went. They held us up at the bar 20 minutes past our reservation time. They only seated us because we gave up on waiting for an outdoor table. It then took 20 minutes to meet the server and order, and another 45 minutes to start eating. Ultimately the food exceeded the flaccid service. I will be back, but not on a night when I'm in a hurry.
