Have visited a handful of times and always enjoy my wine here. It's tucked away in the heart of Solona Beach, making it a great stop to hit along with other things (farmers market, a great brunch, shopping). It feels like an upscale neighborhood bar. The bartenders are funny and friendly, and the interior is always clean and cool. I love the Sauvignon Blanc wine, and I don't usually enjoy white wine. The reds are good, and the Pinot Noir are my favorite. -1 Star for the price, quantity, and quality of their cheese board. What a bust on that one. read more

Charming place tucked away in the back. I came here for a Yelp Elite event and had a great time. Their wines were pretty good (although I am no connoisseur!). I love the vibe here. We had a great experience at Carruth Cellars this weekend! My Bf and I visited after getting tickets for their Barrel Tasting event. I believe this was their first barrel tasting event and I'm very happy we got to be part of it. The tasting consisted of 14 tastings, there were stations all over the winery (both indoors and outdoors) and the staff serving the tastings were very friendly and nice. Some of my favorites included the Petite Syrah and the Merlot (Napa) - it's very neat that they get their grapes from Napa and make the wine in Solana. We are lucky to be close enough to Napa to benefit from this process. The event had live music and Red Oven Pizza was there with their food truck (we didnt get to try it) but we did get to enjoy a nice/generous cheese plate which came with a nice warm loaf of bread and both Manchego and Brie. We definitely plan to be back to Carruth we had a great experience! read more

The wine at Carruth cellars was pretty good. My boyfriend and I enjoyed most of the ones we had in the tasting. There aren't a whole lot of tables outside but we went on a Wednesday afternoon so it was not busy at that time. I'm giving 3 stars for this winery because of the prices that we paid for the tasting. As you can see in my pictures, they don't give much wine per tasting and it cost $20 per flight. This was not worth it to us. Came here today for a wine and yoga event, and ended up becoming a wineclub member. Super delicious whites and reds. It's an urban winery, they bottle in Solana Beach. There are three locations, luckily they have one in Little Italy, so thus the reason I was more eager to join their wine club. Unfortunately wasn't able to try the wine I had my heart set on, but still was able to try some other stuff and ALL of it was delicious. I met someone who was already a member, and said that this winery was on the level, if not better, than the wineries in Napa, so what does that tell you about this wine? It's delicious. read more

I have been coming here for years now and I love this place. First off, Taylor is AMAZING. Sweetest thing and knows her wines. All the staff are great, but that girl never fails to provide excellent customer service and good conversation. My favorite wines are the Cabernet Sav, Tempranillo, Malbec, and Four Play--all reds of course. If I have to name a white, the sav blanc is so good. The rosé is awesome! Carruth Cellars hosted our Wedding Reception a few weeks back (much to the chagrin of some of the Carruth Member looking to grab a glass of wine on a Saturday night, I'm sure... ) and it turned out exactly as we were hoping for. We've been members for a few years now, so it holds a special place in our heart, and to be able to have our wedding reception there was just an added perk. (The membership discount on the venue fee didn't hurt much either!) They were great with the planning, and allowed us to have a preview meeting to go over the logistics of how we wanted the layout to be and when we could get vendors in/out. Our DJ had a special request to get in and setup his equipment a bit early, and they have no issues accommodating that. We did have one minor issue regarding quoted pricing vs signed contract pricing (that was most likely due to Carruth event coordinating personnel turnover), but once it was understood, they were more than willing to resolve it for us and honor our originally quoted price. Oh yeah... and the 5 cases of wine that we purchased for the wedding all went down rather smoothly as well! We wouldn't hesitate to use Carruth for special events in the future! read more

This is where I popped my boyfriend's wine tasting cherry. We had a tasting mixed of both reds and whites to get a feel for what he liked. They are SUPER dog friendly. It is quite and open layout and breezy with a warehouse sort of field. I can see how if it would be hot as balls if it were 80+ degrees out but it was not too bad that day. The reason I came to this place was because it had a lot of friendly, fun dogs that promoted conversations with other people enjoying wine and relaxing. Sunny Solana Beach is all the rage these days, primarily due to it's Cedros Design District. I love the location which is brimming with art galleries, boutiques, live music and street art. Carruth Cellars recently remodeled a large open space in the heart of the design district for their new tasting room. The urban chic interior includes walls lined with wine barrels, several tables and a wine bar. I met some ladies last night and the decor was just lovely, perfect for a special event. I notice that they have a yoga and wine event on Sunday mornings which sounds like a treat if performed in the correct order. I tasted their Cabernet which was full bodied with a hint of oak and a soft finish. Their happy hour lasts until 4:00 so we missed that and the house cab ended up costing $15.00 a glass which is a bit pricey, given the pours were not very big. I love this new location and have three reasons that I know I will return. Location. Location. Location. read more

Wow. This place is amazing. First of all, they have a monthly membership subscription for a ridiculously reasonable price where you get 1 free bottle of wine per month plus 2 glasses of wine whenever you want each and every month. In fact, the 2nd glass of wine can be for a friend or your loved one. So basically, you and your partner can come here everyday and each get 1 free glass of wine. I know. It sounds too good to believe. That's why this place deserves 5 stars! The wine itself is actually pretty tasty. They have several different types of wines, which make for a great wine tasting experience. They have vintage reserves too if you want to drink something special. They also offer a cheese board with crackers, which pairs perfectly with the wine. The location is great, 1 block from Highway 101 and a few blocks away from Fletcher's Cove Beach Park - Solana Beach's nicest beach. Eateries, boutique shops, and other restaurants are in the immediate area, walking distance from the winery, to enjoy with your friends, family, and/or partner. The inside of the winery is spacious and comfortable (see my picture). The people are always so nice. Maybe it's the wine. But they are always so social, sweet, and talkative. Everyone I've been, I always meet someone new and have a fantastic conversation with them. The crowd is as good as the service. The quality of the service is on point - courteous and respectful. Sometimes they can get a bit busy and/or distracted talking to all the people at the bar. But if you make an effort to call them when you need them, they will definitely take care of you. Overall, a memorable and enjoyable experience awaits you at Carruth Cellars due to the awesome crowd, spacious interior, laid back atmosphere, relaxing ambiance, solid location, great service, and delicious wine. read more

Considering the amount of times I'm posted up with the amazing Hayhay for a glass of excellent vino at this awesome urban winery: This review is long overdue. The juice man! The wine ranges from lovely to downright delicious and it's the perfect local place to go for a tasting. It's tucked up on the East side of the street on South Cedors. The long driveway is lying too you, don't drive up and try to park! Just snag a space on the street and stroll up. The wine club, although I'm not a member, get rave reports. A few friends of mine are in it and the barrel tasting nights and events they throw are so much fun. For the public they have movie nights one a month-they're free and Red Oven Pizza (My FAVORITE) is on site for a couple hours so you can eat up pizza with you wine while you watch. Back to the booze: Their motto is "bring the grapes to the people" and they sure do-they source from vineyards in Northern and central California and make it here. I have a soft spot in my heart for the NV Red Tide Blend (served an a Yelp event almost a year ago!) I should also note the labels-if you're a collector and you like your wine to look as good as it tastes check out the Carruth No 3 bottle: J'adore! After a busy week I like to shop on cedros and nothing finishes a Friday like a glass of wine at Carruth-it's like my own local private winery. read more

Really love it here. I used to be a member but the wines didn't change often enough for us so we cancelled it but I still love coming here. Standing only which is a bummer. They do have a couple bar stools I guess but mostly standing. The bartenders are so sweet and knowledgeable and always up for suggesting new wines. The new spot is so much larger and open. When you are a member, you can literally go taste daily! You get a bottle of wine monthly also. You also get a tasting for a friend every time you go. Love the wine not the prices. Happy hour is the way to go here. It's in a new location right across the street from Culture. Same vibe and décor as the previous location. I vacillated between 3 and 4 stars because at first we were not acknowledged for quite a while. So much so that I was tempted to leave. But after that initial hiccup the service was good. I really love the pinot rose they serve here. It really does pay to be a member or buy by the bottle and drink it. Unless of course you are doing wine tastings. Make sure you ask prices of certain wines you drink because my friend was unpleasantly surprised at the cost of the glass of wine she had just tasted. Not a biggie but just be aware. Like I said it's pricey but the ambiance and the quality are a part of the value. read more

Awesome place. We have been members for close to a year now and we love coming to the Solana Beach location. The wine is good, and it has a great atmosphere. No food, outside of some cheese and crackers, but I have seen food trucks there before. Recently we worked with Carlotta on the event staff there for an engagement party. She was fantastic, and the event was perfect. I'd recommend hosting an event at Carruth 10/10 times. read more

Carruth offers wine tastings of about six wines for $10 in their little cellar display room here. They don't grow their own grapes, but buy them from vineyards up the coast. The stainless vat they have there is where they make their Sauvignon Blanc, which was the first wine we tasted. It was crisp and refreshing, less tart than most Blancs I've tried. The only employee there, who was pouring the tastings, was a little overwhelmed with the number of people and so was running back and forth between four groups and thus was not able to explain much about the wines he was serving us, beyond the names. Luckily there was a price sheet with explanations. Our favorites were the Chardonnay and the Malbec, the latter of which was sourced from Russian River Valley grapes. Very smooth and similar to a Cabernet in body and finish. There were two reds that we found so unpalatable that we dumped them after the first encounter. The pours were very small but it was enough get a sense of each wine. I won't influence your taste experience by telling you which ones we didn't care for, since the tasting menu is preset by the winery. We ordered the optional Nibbles plate, which consisted of cheese triangles and a sliced baguette. $10. It's a nice accompaniment and cleared our palates well. We noticed several people had brought along their dogs and children, who were waiting quietly. It's a tiny, dark tasting room and the wines are decent but at $40 a bottle, we felt they were overpriced. Nevertheless, a fun stop on the row. You have to check out the bachelor pad bathroom with black fixtures. So retro 1960s. I was expecting a row of swinging beads. Hopefully no swingers. read more

Barberra Cab! I always have such a great experience here. The first time in length was for a YELP party, you can read my review for the party. This was the second time, going with a big group of girls. We basically had the whole place to ourselves and definitely took over with a 30 of us. The bartender with amazing and somehow handled all of our drink orders. The Barberra Cab with most unbelievable. Very humid, and a lot of the other gallop had Rose and Chards. We brought our own cheese, crackers, chips and it was perfectly laid out throughout the place on wine barrels. There was even a very large picnic table outside that we sat on. Love this place, the owner is very nice as well. Definitely our "go-to" place. read more

So....this is a review of the winery and not so much the wines. The winery gets 4 stars and the wines get 2.5 but for a fun place to drink some adult juice, I'll be generous and round up to 4. I found the wines overall to be fairly blah but a couple were nice. The bottle prices are higher than I expected or, frankly, would pay. Nice 50% check-in deal on Yelp for tasting. Everyone raves about the wine club and it does seem to offer a lot of fun events. The staff is friendly and the tasting room is welcoming. It's a little tough to find (behind a couple of businesses on Cedros) but not all that difficult. I'll be back sometime if I'm shopping Cedros or going to the Belly Up. read more
