Awful customer service! Will not shop here or bring items here again. I have brought items here many times before and received excellent service but the young girl working today was so rude. I know from bringing items here before what brands they like yet this young girl was annoyed that I brought clothes in. As if I was inconveniencing her although she was doing nothing and no one was in the store. She barely gave the items I bought in a look and simply said no we don't take these items!?!???! It's sad that I wasn't astounded by her attitude because nice people and customer service is hard to find these days. Upon leaving I picked 1 flower for my 80yr old mom and she started yelling at me about the foliage being protected by Del Mar horticulture. What happened to people being nice! My experience browsing and shopping at Carolyn's Designer Resale was pleasant. I enjoyed how items were organized, for example, there was a rack specifically for athleisure wear and had brands like Vuori, Lululemon. I'm not a luxury brand shopper by any means, but did notice a couple of Chanel items. I'm more in the market for quiet luxury or wool/cashmere items. I purchased a 100% cashemere sweater that was labeled for $40 but had an additional discount so I ended paying $33. I was really pleased with my purchase, the sweater appeared "clean" and was intact - zero visible flaws. Sales clerk was pleasant and helpful. I would come back to Carolyn's next time I am in the area for sure. read more

Great shop! Excellent service. I'm not understanding the negative reviews of Carolyn's. I have been consigning here for maybe ten years or so, beginning with the previous (maybe original?) owner. From day one - the owner, manager, and staff have all been professional, fair, and helpful. The store has an abundance of clothing and accessories from cocktail dresses to denim to workout gear. They pay on time and are very responsive. To see a review complaining about the shop being closed and giving a one star review is wildly unfair. The owner is a delightful woman - if you have an issue, I would recommend you speak to her about it rather than write a knee-jerk, damaging review. I have worked with many consignment shops in both San Diego and Los Angeles and not all service is at the level of Carolyn's. This is a great place to consign and shop. If you have really high-end items that you want back if they don't, sell, you have to go to Caroline's. Unlike other places you get your items back if they don't sell, but that's huge when they're high end brands. They are very meticulous when picking items and they're also really meticulous when itemizing your items so you know what they took, what they sold, and what you'll get back if they didn't sell. read more

i stopped in here and was not very impressed. everything was insanely overpriced. i am very well-versed in the luxury resale market and so many times i thought to itself, "who would spend this much on this?".. for example, used zara shirts for like $60, prada shoes with no visible external branding for like $500. super disappointing, basically nothing was priced fairly! read more

They have cute stuff but beware of them mislabeling. I came in today and found a pair of sunglasses I was really excited about. I went to checkout and they said they had mislabeled them and wanted to charge me more for them. They had handed me the sunglasses with them labeled wrong and instead of making right on their mistake they tried to offer me other sunglasses in that price range. It was a $70 difference and left me feeling wronged and unhappy. Be careful of this place, there's a lack of attention and to detail and customer service. read more

After a few minutes of browsing I suspected this place was just a wildly overpriced thrift store but my hunch was confirmed when I saw a jacket that I also happen to own. This "designer" jacket was listed for $68 despite it's obvious wear and tear. So where was this high value, vintage, designer coat from??? It was from Forever 21!! What a dump. They claim they sell designer items but really it's just your grandma's old coach purses and shoes. Some old beat up jackets and pants that are all still over priced. Nothing cute nothing worth buying. I'm surprised this place is still here. The old bags that work here are rude and just because I was young and selling my clothes they told ME to grab the items out of my container that they should sell there?... extreme rude and uncalled for, so I just left and didn't even let them finish looking through my things. Shirley is someone I like to visit often not just for her latest designer clothing but because of her wonderful personality. I live & work in Del Mar & I call her store the mini Sak's. It as joy in her store. So glad she bought it and is now running it with such pleasure. The owner before was not a joy and almost felt like I was walking out the door and not easy to check things out. With Shirley and her staff I am welcomed and have no pressure. Do check this retailer often. Her pieces disappear quickly and you do not pay full retail for extremely classy and designer clothing which is one of a kind. read more

I have a bunch of Luxury/Designer Ready-to-Wear clothing and accessories I would like to consign/sell. Woman on the phone was super rude and dissimisive to me. She spoke to me short & curt and was pushing me off the phone. She didn't even ask me what I was trying to consign (which was Givenchy, Balenciaga, & Gucci) and told me to go to Buffalo Exchange?!?!?! I would never recommend this to place to sellers or to buyers. THIS IS NOT A LUXURY EXPERIENCE - you would find better service at a pawn shop. Not sure how anyone would want to buy here. Luxury purchases must be coupled at bare minimum with some pleasant customer service. read more

Clothes are good quality, especially for being second hand. Pricing is average. Staff are very nice. Location is great, in the heart of Del Mar. Definitely worth popping in from time to time to see what's new in the store. read more

I visited both the Del Mar and Downtown locations of Carolyn's. The Del Mar space I came across after enjoying lunch with my parents nearby. The store in Del Mar is smaller than the Downtown location and sometimes looks and feels slightly cramped. On the other hand, the Downtown location is across the street from the convention center and offers a more boutique-like set-up in terms of space. I was able to find some pairs of shorts in this location for a great price. The owner is friendly but is a tad pushy. One con about her stores is the fact that she carries knock-off designer goods. In some cases, she holds a few of the better looking replicas behind the counter and it can be difficult to distinguish the real deal from the fake. In terms of purchasing designer accessories, I would suggest proceeding with caution. I may or may not stop in again. read more

OOoohhh....this place is so spendy, but it's fun to look at. Unlike some other consignments I've been to, I've found a lot of authentic designer stuff here. However, it's a bit on the high-end in terms of pricing...it's not super expensive, but I've seen better deals. This is a small store but it is jam packed with designer goods for your viewing and buying pleasure. The girl working that day was super nice to me; I talked to her for a little bit about the merchandise and asked her how often they get Louis Vuitton (my fave!!!). I took their card in case i ever wanted to consign with them. I'd stop by here if I lived a bit closer or if I'm in the area. Definitely one to consider if you like designer goods and don't want to pay retail. If you are a super cheapy like me, though, it might help to look around and peruse other consignments/online. read more

Let me say that I am relieved by seeing all the negative reviews because they were similar to mine. I went in to look around and I felt extremely uncomfortable in the store. The sales ladies were in my face telling me this is 20% off and that's 20% off. Truthfully I don't care. They wouldn't leave me alone. They asked me, what I was looking for. How about some Respect.! They were trying to figure out what shoes size I wore. None of your business Leave me alone! I looked up as found one of the women peering at me, looking me up and down. BEWARE!!! carolyn wouldn't refund us our money claiming that it was real. she lied about talking to us saying first that we had never called and then later saying that she talked to us and told us to send it back right away. EVERYTHING WAS A LIE. she never told us to send it back and when we did call her, she said it was real... i would never go back, never trust the merchandise there!!! they even admitted to the fact that there was never a 2nd pair of eyes that looked at the bag to make sure it was real! I love shopping resale but I've found this boutique to be hit and miss. I've purchased a few items over the years but did have a poor experience with a counterfeit item that really disappointed me. I purchased what I was told an authentic PRADA bag for more than $900 from the boutique. When one of bag's hardware pieces fell off, I took it into Neiman Marcus for repair. NM then sent it to PRADA Italy for more than 4 months. When they eventually got to looking at it, they promptly sent it back to me with a note saying it was not authentic. Luckily I had all of the paperwork and Carolyn did take the bag back and offered me a store credit to which I declined. Eventually, I got the full refund but the whole thing from the hardware falling off to sending it to PRADA Italy to getting the refund was a PAIN. I will never buy these types of items from resale again. Totally not worth it. read more

My sister and I brought our mother who was visiting from Texas for lunch and shopping in Del mar. I noticed this place and had to stop. DONT BOTHER!. I understand the clothes are high end, however, the average tag was $250... For a blouse! I get it, were tourists in Del Mar. A unique and beautiful wedding dress caught my attention. I called my 80 year old mother to see it, the tall thin brunette with bad hair, was very unwelcoming. Asked if I was looking for a gown. Obviously not. We were just enjoying the day. I said were just looking. Couldn't have been much colder. Id never go back! Appalling customer service! We had fun down the street at Fair Trade Decor! I don't care if it's designer or not, $400+ for a knock off Prada bag, even a real Prada bag, is far far too much in reality, let alone in my resale world. It may have been my mood this day, I was upset with the restaurant I tried to have dinner at across the street, so when I left I saw Carolyn's....I'll bite, maybe I need a pick me up, buy a cute pair of shoes or something. I was disappointed and felt like Pretty Woman did the first time she walked into the store on Rodeo Drive. Try desperately to look like I belong and try to act like I can afford this top and this sweater for....(look at the tag like you're looking at the size but glance at the price........oh my godddddd!!!! $97!? ......) Sneak out, smile politely, feel like crap because I don't live, work, breathe money in Del Mar. Made me feel rather deflated instead of how I usually feel when I leave a resale shop. Sad face. On the up side, great displays and a really cute little boutique environment. The prices are simply far far too high. Maybe people just don't know what I know and that is how to get great designer items at a literal fraction of the retail tag. I'll stick to doing what I'm doing. Just wanted to write this review for those that think they're headed in to spend a hundy and get a grip. You might find one item for less than $75 and its probably a tank top. read more

I visited this store to shop not to sell my own items. The clothing was primarily from nordstrom the day I visited with a large selection of coach handbags and wallets. All of the items I looked at were in good condition for reasonable prices. The store is clearly well kept, it did not have any foul odors or dirt anywhere, something I find all too frequent in resale shops. My friend negotiated on the price for a Coach watch which was in like new condition. Carolyn was quite friendly and helpful, even as many customers tried to get her attention. Like others, I did feel the store was cramped but most resale shops are rather crowded with merchandise. read more

If you love your designer labels, Carolyn's in Del Mar is the place to visit. Especially if you love Chanel, St. John's, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton. There is such a great selection of items, there is no way you will leave this shop empty handed. My favorite part about this store is the shoes. They are in mint condition and so unique. I love the fact that you are getting almost new designer shoes at a fabulous price. The workers are also really helpful. You'll never walk into this store feeling degraded by snobby workers. The only bad side about this location is the space, the owner told me though that they're working on spacing it out by limiting this store to only the best selections. If you're around the area though I suggest stopping by, Camino Del Mar's shops are so convenient to shop after a beach trip. read more

Never in my life have I experience such fake, condescending costumer service. They profiled me based on what I was wearing. The woman keep bringing me "cheaper" items to look at. All of her suggestions were so tacky. I asked if they carried a designer and when I asked to try on the only dress I liked in the whole store, I was denied. Their excuse "it's too big for you" "plus it's a heavy dress". I know my size and I know the dress is heavy I'm not stupid??? I asked to try on another dress and one of the women working there asked the other "I don't know, do you think that dress will fit her?" It was a medium. Whatever, their loss. I have money and I'll spend it somewhere who doesn't profile me based on my appearance. Like double take in solana beach, their prices are better and their employees are very nice. read more

NEVER EVER consign here. I learned a very expensive lesson. Rather than giving the seller the option to pick up an item before they drastically reduce it, they just sell your goods for whatever they can get, regardless of value. I had a Louis Vuitton bag in mint condition worth $1,200 sell there for a very low price. Could have sold on any number of websites for more. Particularly given they were closed for months due to COVID, it would have been professional if they had let sellers know when they opened that they were going to deep discount their stuff. read more

SUBJECT: Trademark infringement which includes the sales of counterfeit products! Carolyn's Resale advertises and sells everything in the store as "authentic" merchandise that includes a selection of new PRADA bags in the $1000 range. Reality is that the $950 Prada Bag I purchased from Carolyn's Del Mar store is a counterfeit which had been confirmed by the PRADA trademark store. To get you interested the owner marketings her PRADA products to originate from the Prada outlet store in Florence Italy. For me the story changed later on from the "outlet store" version to FOUR middleman sources and no sight of any proper prove or origination papers. Even after I proved that the bag sold to me was a counterfeit Carolyn continues to insisted that her merchandise is authentic. It is highly possible that the store will continue to sell counterfeits as authentic. Be carful! read more

I have had nothing but a good experience here. Friendly and helpful staff and owner. I recently purchased a high end watch. I was worried it wouldn't work, or it wasn't real, but the appraisal came back perfect and I am happy to have replaced a lost watch at a more affordable price.
