Hardie Plus siding Two weeks after buying my house, I found it needed to be completely resided! I was upset because I had had very bad experiences with contractors in this area. I interviewed 3 major companies in the triangle. The customer experience , value and quality were outstanding with Carolina Exteriors .The office staff was friendly and informative. Kevin, the sales rep. came out quickly and assessed the house. He thoroughly discussed his findings and answered all questions. Their estimate was fair and better than anyone else. In addition their estimate included a chimney cap, gutters and a new crawl space door. Lewis ( project manager) visited everyday and personally spoke with me. The quality of their work was excellent. We contracted with Carolina Exteriors for a James Hardie Full Colorplus reside and gutter replacement project. What was sold to us in December of 2020 was not what was delivered by the end of the project in June of 2021. After a total investment of $30,185, we were to receive a total siding replacement (all siding, corner boards, fascia, soffit, frieze, shingle molding) and gutter replacement on the whole house along with downspouts. You may be thinking, "That is an absurd amount to pay for a siding and gutter project," and yes, you are correct. There are multiple other companies who will do the project at a cheaper price for likely better customer service. We have since discussed this with neighbors and friends and now realized we paid an outlandish price. As they say, hindsight is 20-20. We experienced three main issues while working with Carolina Exteriors, LLC . 1 - Poor Communication: After initially closing the deal with a sales member (who could sell potatoes to the Irish), we began the downward trend of a lack of proper communication. The initial issue what when the project would start. After not hearing back when we were originally promised, we reached out for an estimated start date. Then came the crickets. One week before the scheduled project start date we reached out again and had to CC multiple people in the company. We were finally successful at establishing a start date of 4/13. Throughout the project, there was a myriad of miscommunication that fell on the shoulders of us as customers. Quite frankly, we felt like we could have contracted with each of their sub-contractors and gotten the job done at a cheaper and more efficient rate. 2 - Speed of the Project: The project was to be completed within 20 working days. However, it was stated in the contract that working days may not be consecutive due to scheduling of various trades. That detail was a kicker. Living in a construction site from 4/13 to 6/23 was tumultuous to say the least. If one chooses to go through this company, be prepared to expect delays upon delays. 3 - Completion of Original Contract Details: As mentioned, a complete siding replacement and replacement of gutters was agreed to in the original contract and paid for at the requested times. During the sales call and initial inspection, we were sure to point out areas that may be of trouble when construction began. It was assured to us by Carolina Exterior that these items could easily be remedied. It turns out they could not and we received a measly $200 refund out of $30,185 for a set of gutters and downspouts that were not replaced (leaving much to be desired for the aesthetics of the project) and a portion of soffit directly on the house. We received a request to sign a certificate of completion on 6.21.21 asking us to sign a document that stated, "Customer(s) further certify that Seller has discussed completion of this project and any issues, concerns, complaints, or discrepancies with the governing Contract Document a nd/or project workmanship have been resolved to customer(s) satisfaction." We replied with our concerns and have not received any response. After believing what would be provided for the hefty price tag, we are immensely dissatisfied with the process and outcome of this project. I recommend individuals to get multiple quotes prior to conducting work with Carolina Exteriors. Their sales tactics and discrepancies with the governing contract leave much to be desired. read more

Carolina Exteriors put on a new roof in our townhouse community. Wesley the owner was very involved. Everything looked good, however, there were several townhouses with roof leaks; several within weeks of the work and the other about 10 months after. The management company called Carolina Exteriors several times for service, and they received no response. We also did an engineering review and they noted several areas in need of repair. For this latest repair, we called Baker, and of course they fixed the issue. There will always be issues with any type of construction; that isn't the problem. The lack of response or support after the job was completed & paid for, means that they are grifters. Do yourself a favor, pay a little more and go with BAKER ROOFING. read more

Carolina Exteriors replaced our roofs in my townhome development summer of 2020. I've heard mixed reviews from my neighbors re the quality of the work, but I'm really frustrated now with their lack of responsiveness to a warranty request. Not only is their receptionist quite rude telling me "I'm just the receptionist" and that she couldn't help me (nor apparently transfer me to someone who could) but it's now been 5 business days since the request was made and I haven't heard a peep from anyone about when they'll come to inspect (have ACTIVE leaks!) or a response to send me a copy of the labor warranty. Not sure why there has been less transparency around this. I definitely wouldn't recommend a company who makes it so hard to work with them on a warranty issue. read more

Carolina Exteriors is a customer friendly as they come. Our 1.5 yr old installed doorway was letting water in at the bottom of our transom during Hurricane Michael. I left a vm and sent an e-mail to the company & was expecting "to get in line," as our problem was minor. Within 10 minutes I received both a call back & an e-mail. I am so happy and grateful that we found Clifton with Carolina Exteriors and all of the professional staff. Getting a new roof and siding can be both daunting and stressful as a homeowner. For the first time in 13 years, a company I hired has done exactly what they said they would do and were so professional throughout the entire process. From meeting with Cliff to working with Lewis and his crews, to communicating with Gail, everyone did A+ work. Communication was top notch and I felt like their top priority was doing their best and making sure we were happy. If I had a question or a problem, it was addressed respectfully and professionally. We contacted Carolina Exteriors Plus in regards to a complete replacement of all siding / roof / trim, new windows and doors, and a replanking of the deck to composite. All of our existing house materials were items that had rotted over time or exceeded their useful life (Masonite / rotted wood, windows, & decking). Clifton came out in July and looked at the work and we were very impressed with his professionalism and specifically the presentation of the quote for the repairs. On sheer circumstances his quote was also the cheapest of the 3 we got from exterior contractors. However, honestly I would have picked Carolina Exteriors Plus even if they weren't the cheapest by the way the quote was assembled / presentation of work. We were told that the work would have a 6 week lead time to start which was not a big deal and it ended up starting around late September. Lewis Holt was our day to day project manager on site and the communication between him and us was first class. I also have a lot of experience in the construction industry so I can openly admit this might have made things easier for both us and Carolina Exteriors Plus. On a project of this size and given the existing conditions, we expected that there could be some likely hidden damage in any aspect of the 3 projects but were fortunate that the only change orders were very minor except for the deck (the existing deck was laying in the dirt and trenched out intentionally that was which caused all the supports on most of the structure to be rotted when the deck boards were taken off). Lewis did a fantastic job keeping things on schedule, providing updates on items, and being a knowledgeable person. We also enjoyed working with Roberto's siding crew & Brandon's deck crew specifically as well. (I can't remember the name of the roofers or gutter people but they all did a great job!) There were some extremely minor punch list items as each aspect of the project was completed (this should be expected since no one is perfect). Each of these items were handled in a timely manor and made us completely satisfied. Dealing with Carolina Exteriors Plus was the single best experience we could have possibly had in terms of the quality of work / communication / effort. We just had Carolina Exteriors Plus do extensive work on our home. All new facia boards, new gutters and downspouts, front porch columns replaced and patio back door replaced. Then had house power washed, completely prepped and had house painted. Clifton was a delight to work with, the contract specific and easy to follow, prices were extremely fair for the quality of work we received. Lewis was our project manager who came every day, provided updates via emails and responded immediately to phone calls. We had a delay due to the heat and were informed well in advance. Each team that came in was superior: the carpenters actually structurally improved our entranceway columns without our asking, back door replacement was great with PERFECT work done by that team, painters were neat and clean always checking that we were happy with results. Carolina Exteriors Plus recently completed a residing project around my whole house. They are a great company. I was very satisfied by their work. Their crew was great, they worked very hard and tried to do everything to perfection. Their project manager was very communicative on a daily basis communicating the status of the project. I have nothing negative to say. They completed the work very smoothly and followed up fixing any minor issue I had to mention. They accommodated everything we needed. As for pricing, I got quotes from another James Hardie preferred installed and his price was 50% more expensive. Even another smaller (non James Hardie preferred) installer came 40% higher than Carolina Exteriors. So, their price was very competitive as well. Highly recommended. read more

I was unable to work with this business and selected another to reside my house. After several attempts to have them remove a particularly troubling clause in their contract, I stopped negotiating with them. A word to the wise: do not sign a contract that has the following "...however Carolina Exteriors Plus is not responsible for and cannot be held liable for damage to driveways, lawns, shrubs, etc. during the course of the project." If in doubt, contact a lawyer - it would be foolhardy to give away your rights. Read your contract carefully. On two previous homes I had really bad experiences with skill, quality and product knowledge of the exterior work done on these homes, so this time I did my homework! I knew I wanted the HardiPlank product, and Carolina Exteriors Plus was one company I checked out based on a referral from a rep from John Hardie. From my first contact with CEP they were very responsive, did what they said they were going to do, when they said they were going to do it, and were very professional. They weren't the lowest price, nor the highest price. I selected them based on their references, the quality of the work I saw on homes in the area they had done, and the way in which they handled the sales process. I am very happy with the end result! They did a great job! And they were reliable and kept me informed with a project update every single day! The contractor (Carolina Exteriors Plus) was not very organized. The workers did not know what to do and the contractor was not on the site. I had to tell the worker what to do. They order the wrong doors and had to cut them to get them fit and they did not know how to install the locks. The painter were power washing and painting at the same time. They did not caulk the new siding and damaged a number shingles. They left the job for 3 days with no work being done and when left there was trash all in the driveway. read more

Our early 1970s home was beginning to show its age as the siding and trim were rotting out in multiple places. It needed paint, but more than that the siding and trim needed replaced. I knew the good reputation of Hardiplank for durability, appearance, and adding value to the home, so I reached out to no less than 5 companies who installed Hardiplank. I received quotes, all in varying degrees of detail and clarity. Above all, Clifton at Carolina Exteriors Plus provided me the most comprehensive and detailed estimate. He came out to my house to see the proposed project, listened to what we wanted, offered some advice, and presented the estimate to us in person. I really appreciated the later point, that Clifton met us in person to go over the estimate in detail. This made a huge difference in our deciding to grant the project to them. I should mention that estimates I received from other contractors were extremely high, competitive but less detailed, or not what I'd asked for. During the time leading up to the start date, I requested a number of changes be made to the estimate. That wasn't a problem at all. Carolina Exteriors' communication throughout the process was clear and rapid. I was never left waiting to hear from them. The work quality of the carpenter and window casing was exemplary, particularly the former. There were some framing/sheathing issues revealed after the old siding was pulled off which may have complicated the installation of Hardiplank, but the carpenter took it in stride and seems to have lost no time in making these corrections. I should also mention their project manager, Lewis, who routinely stopped by the house to check the progress. He kept me updated on the progress of the work and, like Clifton, had excellent communication throughout. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Carolina Exteriors Plus to anyone who needed new siding or trim. My house went from forgettable to one of the most attractive on my street. They had no high pressure sales techniques, their bid was extremely competitive, and they completed the work on time. read more
