I called Roofwerks several months ago for two things: [#1] I had a specific leak in my roof that turned out to be coming in through a broken spot under an attic window. [#2] I wanted to get a quote for re-painting my metal roof with a sealant. I paid that invoice, and called again several weeks ago for two more things: [#3] We had a leak in a corner under our roofline where two gutterlines meet. The insurance appraiser suspected it was due to a gap under the roofline that rain was blowing through during hard wind. I was hoping they would install some sort of flashing or protection over that gap, which would probably require gutter removal to reach. [#2 again] Since I hadn't received an estimate after the first job, I followed up about that. The people who came out (5/25/2022) did not fix the gap under the gutter corner, though I don't know why: it has since been fixed by another provider. Instead, they applied a single stripe of sealant down a roof line where there was no evidence of leakage. They also said they would provide an estimate for tightening screws and re-painting the roof for maintenance. This already felt like redundant work, since that's what they had supposedly done the first time, so I really didn't expect the expensive invoice that followed: $840+tax. I responded asking for clarification of the charges. (They quoted $168 per hour, and two men were there for 1.5 hours. That puts the paint used at $336.) I didn't hear back, so I follow up two days later, to which I received a reply that she was working on it. Two more weeks later, I followed up again, and was promised a prompt response. On Tuesday June 21, I got an email that the invoice had been dropped to $625+tax... still a flat price with no breakdown of hours and materials. Again, I asked for clarification of the costs, but at this point also decided to write this complaint. I ALSO PAID THE INVOICE. (I clarify this because I'm not doing this to justify stiffing them. I can afford $678, but I can't afford to spend any more time or patience waiting for an explanation or follow-through. My time is better spent making a BBB complaint and sharing my experience here.) So, to summarize: - They charged for duplicate work, since they were supposed to have provided an estimate after coming to address the first leak but never did. - They painted a single stripe down the seam of those roof lines and then tried to charge $336 (later $121) for the paint. - There was no evidence of leakage there. The actual leak was later repaired by another provider in the original spot that I pointed out but that they didn't repair. - It took two of their people 1.5 hours to look around the roof of a 1020sqft house (again, for what, I don't know, since they had already been out to estimate this before) and paint a white stripe that didn't need to be painted. - They still haven't provided an estimate that I think I've paid for twice now. read more

We had a very unpleasant experience with Roofwerks. We selected a more expensive, more technical shingle - and our roof was complex with multiple dormers at odd angles, etc. The team was clearly overmatched for the job. The foreperson, assuming he had the requisite expertise, was only present for a fraction of the time. The crew installed the roof hurriedly with much of the work done after dark. When completed, you could easily see that our roof did not remotely resemble the pictures we had used when selecting the shingle. We complained, and the owner and another executive came out to inspect the roof. The two men arrived, walked slowly around the house, gazed thoughtfully for several minutes in a display that seemed more of a performance than a real assessment. The owner firmly proclaimed that Roofwerks had done a perfect job. We pointed out flaw after flaw clearly visible from the ground. We showed them the brochures and the contrast of a well-installed roof. They refused to acknowledge any mistakes. It was the most egregious act of dishonesty I've seen in a long time. We hired a lawyer; got an independent inspector to review the roof; and he created a 40-page report that included copious examples of corner-cutting and incompetence. The report indicating failures far worse than we imagined. Again, even with the report replete with pictures, the owner refused to acknowledge anything less than a perfect roof. We hired Baker who removed the roof and installed the same shingle, but this time correctly, fixing the problems that Roofwerks left behind. At Roofwerks request, we asked that Baker leave the old copper in our yard, presumably so they could recycle and reuse. Baker left a pile of copper about the size of two large minivans. We alerted Roofwerks that their copper available and to pick it up. We waited several weeks. They never came, and it was left to us to remove the copper. I have nothing positive to say about Roofwerks or its owner. The entire process was disgraceful, without a moment of competence, integrity, or decency. read more

Could not say enough about the great work this company did in replacing my roof earlier this year. They had initially come out last year to repair a leak, which they did efficiently and quickly, but also warned me that I would be needing a new roof soon as the current roof was 25 years old and I was experiencing multiple leaks. Fred came out to give me an estimate and spent a lot of time with me explaining the process, how it would work, who would come out, how long it would take, and exactly what it would cost. The estimate was within a few hundred dollars of the other two that I received, and I scheduled the work for two weeks in advance. A crew came out and completed the work in two days. They were extremely polite, Fred was on site almost the whole time and kept me informed on everything that was going on. I did need to replace several sheets of plywood which had rotted through. I was shown the plywood and exactly what the work would be. I was amazed at how well they were able to clean up the site. I found only a few nails and pieces of roofing paper here and there. Fred walked the site with me several times and offered to come out again if waste or nails were found. I have had no leaks whatsoever since the new roof was put on. There was some slight damage to a banister which they came out and fixed promptly. Overall, I am thrilled with the work that Roofwerks did. I have no doubt that any warranty service, if needed, would be performed promptly incorrectly. I would recommend them without reservation. read more

We had a local small company do our gutters and after the first wind storm, part of the gutters in front blew down, then in the back, because they didn't put enough brackets , we had a few spots that wasba waterfall, after contacting Seth a few times, which was one of three estimates, we were wrong in not choosing roofwerks the first time, we are on a budget and our new house didn't come with gutters, we needed to have them done right, our mistake, then Seth and roofwerks came to the rescue, sorry it took so long but a big Thank you for saving our house. After getting a couple of estimates, Roofwerks was the company we went with to have our roof replaced. The other company tried to get our insurance company to pay for a new roof but the insurance company declined the claim, saying the amount they would have paid for wind and hail damage would not have met our deductible. Fred was a great guy to work with. The first day (Friday), the weather wasn't all that cooperative but they still managed to get the back of the house torn off and installed between raindrops. Day two completed the job (on a Saturday) and the dumpster was removed on Monday. Nobody asked me for money until a couple days after the job was completed, and even then it was a request to pay at my convenience. The bill was discounted for writing a check instead of paying by credit card and I received a credit for the return of excess materials. I have picked up a few nails I have found in the driveway, but hopefully, we do not have any in our tires. The only real issue is the vinyl siding on the back of the house has not yet been snapped back into place over the screened in porch where it was pulled away to install the flashing. read more

Roofwerks were specifically recommended by Velux when we needed some older/custom skylights replaced and shades added, and we decided to have them also "re-do" (new membrane installation) the old/original flat roof for that section of the house. The team were professional, punctual, and though flat roof work is expensive, they were competitively priced. The team took their time and did a thorough and neat job, and when there was a concern about a small leak after a rain, the team were prompt to return and assess any areas that might have caused it which appear to have addressed the issue. I submitted a request through Yelp and they followed-up quickly to schedule a visit for my gutter overflow issue. Seth arrived on--time and was very professional. Fixed my issue in no time and saved me from having to get on a 20+ foot ladder (no thanks!). Seth also did a quick survey of my roof while he was up there to confirm the shingles were all in tact, as my house gets pelted with branches and pine cones during wind events. All good! Cheap poorly trained labor, shoddy work, Americans unemployed. RoofWerks failed to use the correct vent to install three bathroom vent hosing in my attic. One hose wasn't connected at all. See photo. They used a square louvered roof vent to connect two bath vent hoses at the same spot on the roof. A louvered vent is not designed to accept two round vent hoses. I'm reporting this to the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors because this negligence may have been repeated on a major total roof replacement contract on over 100 townhomes in the Raven Pointe Townhome community. They all need to be inspected and repaired. The work crews were all non english speaking immigrants and clearly not trained on proper vent installations and/or they were not supplied with the correct materials to do the job. read more

I spoke with the head person yesterday and asked prelim questions. Per NCRA (https://www.nrca.net/contact), the National Roofing Assoc. to confirm what I had learned on YouTube. If you have roofing that abutts a wall (dormers, for example) the siding MUST come off in order to replace step flashing. This company failed that test when I asked them about the process. YOU CANNOT EFFECTIVELY SLIP 3" OF FLASHING UNDER SIDING! They also failed question #2 "Do you employ you own crew". Watch out for this bcs nearly all of them will try to convince you they do. OR, they will try to convince you it's okay bcs it's "Sort of an industry standard" like the Roofwerks guy did. Per the hancho at the Natl org, one of the most impt things to look for is a company that employs their own crew. That means ON THE PAYROLL. This company doesn't. That means there is no control over the workers. Stay away from brokers. That;s what most of them are. read more

We chose Roofwerks -- after getting bids from three other roofers -- because of their very good Angie's List reviews and the fact that they were Certainteed Certified. Though I believe the roof itself (and gutters) to have been well installed, other issues with the company's integrity and professionalism would prohibit me from ever using them again or recommending them. Roowerks was in the middle, pricewise, with Baker Roofing's bid substantially higher. The crew showed up right on time and quickly stormed the roof (I would not advise staying home for this - sounds like Armageddon). The main roof (and the flat roof) work was done, as promised, in one day. Both roofs look very good and seem to be well installed. There were numerous small issues that I suppose should be expected with this kind of work -- hole in one bedroom ceiling, torn up interior skylight trim, junction box pulled off with cable left hanging, cigarette butts and other debris dropped into the house, 60+ nails in the front yard and driveway. It took multiple requests and over two months to get the ceiling hole, skylight trim and hanging cable fixed. The gutters were well-installed (and apparently larger than the 5" we were quoted). The repaired soffit and fascia were painted white, despite our existing trim being almond. This took some back and forth to have repainted, but it was done. The crew used our contractor's dumpster to dispose of their debris, despite being asked not to the day before, and haul-off being part of the contract. The problem we had was with the soffit/fascia repair -- not the quality of the work, but the charges. The repair work was quoted at $11/ft for soffit and fascia repair. We mistakenly believed this to be for soffit and fascia repair. In fact, we were billed $11/ft for soffit repair and $11/ft for fascia repair. Possibly our mistake, but something to watch out for. We also were originally billed $11/ft for sub-fascia repair (not mentioned in the bid). We believed this was excessive ($88 for an unpainted board costing under $10), and Roofwerks did reduce that charge to $8/ft. Still excessive, in my opinion. We were out of town and not there to supervise this work(a fact they were aware of), and were shocked to receive a bill for 300 feet of repair work at $11/ft. (Baker had specifically estimated 70 feet in their bid.) The bill did not include any detail. When we asked our project manager to come out and show us the 300 feet, he did, and indicated approximately 30 feet that had been painted over, but we were able to determine were not replaced (backside, viewed from porch, not painted and clearly old boards) . Despite this indisputable evidence, we had to have another meeting (another morning off work) with the project manager, one of the owners and the head of the gutter crew -- to go through the same exercise of being told boards had been replaced that clearly were not. Though Roofwerks adjusted the bill down for those 30 feet and expressed their appreciation for us "working with" them, there was no apology for this obvious deception, and we cannot help but be left to wonder how much of the remaining 270 feet (much of which is hidden) was actually replaced and indeed, how many of the 27 sheets of plywood sheathing ($55/sheet) were actually replaced on the roof. Maybe all of it, but, understandably, we have our doubts. They also repeatedly neglected to include the $750 cash/check discount agreed upon in the contract. We thought we were saving money using Roofwerks over Baker, but believe, in the end, it cost us more. Overall, our experience with Roofwerks -- especially the lack of contrition over obvious misrepresentation -- left us with a bad taste. read more

A slow roof leak finally revealed itself with a few dark spots on our upstairs bathroom ceiling. Going into the attic showed the problem right away, bad leak around a roof vent. Walked up on the attic and quickly determined i didn't feel like cutting a whole in my roof and getting the new vent and shingles up correctly. Runs to Yelp and searches 'roof.' 10 very high reviews for roofwerks was enough to prompt me to call. Got a guy over for an estimate in a day. Gary turned out to be a fellow WV native, so of course we talked about football for 15 minutes before getting to the roof. He quickly came up with a quote, and the guys came out and fixed it. Looks good, inside (in the attic) and out (on the roof.) They walked the roofline looking for other issues and put down any nail-pops they found. I don't do many 5-star reviews. These guys came and saved the day. No one likes the thought of the elements getting into their house and screwing stuff up. Price was very reasonable. $400 and change for two guys to come out and do 90+ minutes labor plus supplies. read more

He called and said there was a problem generating the estimate and they would have it ready later that day. Three days later and no estimate. They got someone out to look at it the next day. Our electrical mast had come out of the roof after a storm and left a hole in the roof. They took a look at it, replaced my tarp job with a good temporary fix, knowing there were storms coming that weekend. All this before they had even given me a quote or knew that I was going to hire them. The quote came in at half of what the other guy wanted. Roofwerks replaced our entire roof. We got quotes from three different local companies and selected Roofwerks. Their reputation and detailed information were on par with the most expensive company, but their price was better. They were very responsive from the outset. Shane had provided an estimate for us a couple of years earlier; so we were comfortable with him from the start. The estimate gave good detail about what to expect and the crew he provided was excellent. Although he had forecast about a 6 to 8 week wait due to the weather backup, he was able to get an excellent crew for us within two weeks due to a cancellation. The crew was very conscientious with a lot of attention to detail. Shane was onsite frequently to inspect and provide direction. Any concerns I expressed to him were quickly addressed. Some of the steps they took appeared to provide better technique than the original roofers (whose results lasted 27 years with only a few minor repairs along the way). We needed to replace the roof on our ~1650 sq. ft. mid-70s ranch house and got quotes from three different-sized companies. Roofwerks was in the middle, size-wise and price-wise, but their approach, materials, and cost were very similar overall to the larger company we considered. What led us to choose Roofwerks was a sense of a more personal touch... they were friendlier and more responsive than anybody else. They took the time to talk with us about options and explain the details of the job. They also got to the job quickly and did good work. After the roof was completed, they came back on two separate occasions to address minor unforeseen issues...we definitely felt like our satisfaction was important to them. My roof was old and leaking. Had used Roofwerks before and they had done an excellent job; so I called they again for total roof replacement. That was two weeks ago. Made appointment and Shane Donavant from Roofwerks showed up on time to look at my house; and provided options for replacement and to address other problems with my roof. This week Shane and crew showed up as promised, took out the old roof, repaired some items, replaced some of the water damaged plywood; and finished up the same day. All promises were kept and I was impressed with the results and the professionalism of Shane and his crew. I chose Roofwerks to replace a skylight just over a year ago. I selected them because they were the only company I found that would replace a half-sphere skylight. That was the awesome part about them. When they came out to give the estimate, they also noticed that the boots around the chimney and drain vents were deteriorating and included those in the estimate and work. They installed the skylight off center in the hole (actually the measurements they took were a off by several inches so that the round part of the skylight is smaller than the round hole for it.) They should have paid attention to the detail of installing it centered on the ceiling hole. On the positive side, I had noticed a leak in the bathroom ceiling on a separate section of the roof. They found a nail pop there and replaced the shingle without extra charge. I also asked repeatedly for the paperwork on the skylight in case I need to make a warranty claim (and also as a source for round skylights in the future.) Although the customer rep said he's send this to me he never did. Just after the 1 year warranty on their labor expired I noticed a leak around one of the chimney vents. Because it had been just over a year, I didn't really want them to come back since the labor was out of their (very short!) warranty. The roofer who repaired the leak said that the boot had not been properly nailed in place and sealed so that was the reason for the leak. He fixed it. PROS: Flexible and able to handle unusual requests (found a round skylight). Went outside the scope of work to replace a shingle not involved in the project. CONS: Lack of attention to detail. No follow through. Part of work done improperly. read more
