Accidentally hit a curb on a new SUV. I gave Paul a quick call and expected a quick estimate. Paul took one look and said we can just bang this one out and fix it. My car was HULK SMASHED and this place returned it to good as new!! My Toyota Avalon was hit by a big moving truck while it was parked on the street, with damage to just about every part of the left side - front fender, both doors, bumper - and the rear view mirror was knocked into the next zip code. Luckily, the other driver had good insurance, so financially, everything was taken care of. This is my first car and my first experience with insurance and car repairs, so I came in with almost zero knowledge of what to do and how these things go down. Paul at the shop was completely down to earth, honest, clearly very hard working, gave very good time estimates on when the work would be done, and did a great job of keeping me up to date on progress. My car wasn't starting, and unfortunately I am new to the area and didn't know of any friends who would have jumper cables, so I figured I would have to get my car towed to an auto shop nearby. I found EZ Auto Body on Yelp, which had amazing reviews, so I gave them a call. Paul answered the phone, asked what was going on, and since I was close by, offered to come to me. He was at my car within 30 minutes, helped me jump my car, and made sure I was good to go. He specifically does auto body repairs, so he suggested I go to Sullivan Tire, which is nearby, but told me not to let them charge more than $130 for a new battery (if I needed one). He didn't charge anything for the jump start, and I was on my way!!! read more

TL;DR: As good as it gets!!! My new (to me) car was involved in an accident - hit while parked. I have never had as much as a speeding ticket before, so I was at a complete loss for what to do. Not only that, I had just moved to Somerville so really had no idea where to turn - I didn't even have a regular mechanic in my new neighborhood yet. I went to a few places who quoted me outrageous amounts - my car had been hit by a friend who was paying out of pocket for the repair, so cost was a big factor to me. I felt intimidated and overwhelmed. Then I met Paul. I stumbled across a yelp review for EZ Auto Body and let me tell you, the reviews do not lie. TEN STARS. When I called and told him that my car had been in an accident, his first response was "Are you ok?" Now, this seems like a small thing, but after the intimidation I had received from other places...this was a huge thing. Paul stayed late and waited for me so he could meet me after work. He gave me an estimate that was LESS THAN HALF of what other places had given me. AND he gave me a time estimate that was ALSO less than half of what other places had quoted. Instantly he made what was a bummer situation not so bad. I dropped off my car on Monday, he said it would be ready by Friday. He had offered me lots of flexibility about when I wanted to get the work done. The car was still drivable so it wasn't an emergency situation, but he treated it like it was. He called me on Thursday to let me know the car would be ready for pickup the next day. Once again, he stayed late and waited for me to come pick up my car. My car looked absolutely beautiful - better than she had ever looked! He did an amazing job. He also detailed my entire car, something I had not expected. The price he quoted me was the same as the final amount. The entire experience was wonderful, start to finish. I cannot recommend Paul and his work more. I hope to never personally need his services again but if I do it feels really good knowing I have someone I can count on. Note: He only accepts cash & check. 10 Stars. Seriously. My car hasn't look this good since I bought it. My Honda CR-V was sitting on the street when someone smashed into and then drove away. This was the first time my car had been in an accident and wasn't drive-able. I wasn't even sure what to do or where to start. My fiancé called Paul and it was the best decision we made. Paul told us we had to wait until we had an appraisal form to begin any work, but he actually called us a few times to check in and see how everything was progressing before we even brought our car in. I was already impressed with his customer service and we hadn't even given him business yet. Paul is also super knowledgable and very willing to work with your insurance company. My car was with him for 2 weeks and I never had to worry about him updating me, or the insurance company, or getting the proper paperwork in order. I pretty much dropped my car off, and then picked it up. And the best part is my car looks SO GOOD. The entire part of the car that was smashed now looks brand new. He cleaned and detailed the entire inside and outside of my car, which I couldn't believe. And even better, my headlights were super cloudy, and he restored them back to new for free! I seriously couldn't believe how nice he was, how communicative he was, and how awesome the work was. EZ Auto Body is well-run business with great customer-service. They provide excellent and detailed explanations of their work. They have helped me on three occasions in the last three years. The most recent was a doozie of an accident. I was rear-ended and needed a new trunk, bumper and work done on the frame of my 2010 Corolla. I came to Paul directly after an unfortunate and horrifying experience getting an inspection sticker at Somerville Auto Service on Warren St. a day after my accident and a day before the end of my registration expiration month (very unlucky timing!). Somerville Auto Service had me shaking and furious (see separate review for that shop). When I arrived at EZ Auto Body, Paul was a calm presence who walked me through what I needed to do and let me keep my rejected car at his shop, since I can't park it on a city street, while I got the insurance squared away. Not only is Paul very human, down to earth, and kind, but he kept me up to date with frequent phone calls as my car was being assessed by insurance and fixed by his shop. He dealt directly with my insurance company. He even offered me a great price on fixing up some dings on my front bumper in addition to the other work. Then, once the car was fixed, he took it back to that God-awful Somerville Auto Service to get the registration sticker updated so I didn't have to! I picked up my car and it looked like new. This is the first time I got into a crash and had my car fixed. And the experience was AWESOME! First, the location is perfect in the sense there is a Hertz just across the street, which is very convenient to just drop your car on this side and pick up another one on the other. Most importantly, Paul (the owner) is super nice. He took responsibility beyond simply fixing the car, but also handled all the trouble communicating with my car insurance company and helping me rent a car. So the process is very smooth, just sending my car into the store, got into another car right away, and come back days later to change the car back! And the process is very fast and efficient. When I got back to my car, it is like a brand new one, cleaned inside and outside, and with a sweet welcome note beneath the driver's seat, which makes my whole day. Thank you Paul for everything! Wow. Smurf (yes, my car's name is Smurf, she is light blue just like a smurf and has been mine for almost 13 years so I love her) has never looked so good. I don't know how more people do not know about this hidden gem of an autobody shop. Paul did wonders with my car!! Smurf had a small piece of paint peeling off of her and I didn't want her body to rust, and Paul was just the man for the job. Not only was I given a great rate, but my car including all of the buffing and painting and everything was done in about 2 days! Amazing! And they even completely cleaned my car from head to toe including the hubcaps which I have not seen shine so much since I bought this car in 2000, a complete vacuum job inside on all of the carpets and floors, and they wiped everything clean inside too! Picking up Smurf from a car shop has never been so exciting! She is like a brand new lady thanks to this place, and I now know the one place I will always bring my car when I need work done on it. You can tell this place is honest and truly loves what they do, which is exactly the type of place I like to bring my car to. I'll preface by saying prior to going to Carneiro I was turned away by about half a dozen different shops for the body work I was attempting to get done. My Mazda had a pair of rusty rear quarter panels that were previously 'repaired' by the dealership using shoddy materials. The metal was quite literally falling apart along the wheel well. Most shops either quoted me over $4k for the work or straight up refused, saying they prioritize insurance jobs. Paul was extremely easy to work with, quoted under my budget, and threw in a clear coat refinish which showed he truly cares about his customers. The whole job only took him a few days, and I received a call letting me know it would be ready for pickup. I went to EZ to get my car detailed, since I had a deal from CoupMe. It was supposed to be a 3 hour detail worth $179... I doubt that it was 3 hours and it definitely wouldn't have been worth $179. I dropped off my car at 12:40 and there was one man working there. He indicated he had 2 other cars to do before mine, after lunch and there were only 4 hours left in the business day. When I picked up my car, the floors looked good, the trunk was nice and clean, but the cupholders weren't clean near the edges, the coin tray wasn't even vacuumed, the headrests weren't vacuumed (as indicated from my hot pink fuzzies from my winter hat... in August), nevermind shampooed. I have a 5 yr old kid, and my backseat is a testament to this. There are random stains, and a melted crayon. This is why I wanted my car detailed to begin with. I figured if it didn't get rid of the stains completely, it'd at least help. They weren't even slightly faded, so I'm not sure what exactly was done in what I'm estimating was an hour of work. My car is definitely cleaner. A vacuum works wonders, and my windows were definitely done, but other than that, it's not the spectacular outcome I was hoping for. The tech told me my car was dirty when I brought it in... isn't that the point? Yes, it was a project, but I don't think it was really taken on like it should have been. Edited to add: The random stains in the backseat, I cleaned myself this weekend. A little spot shot and about 5 minutes of labor and it's totally gone. The guy that "detailed" my car didn't even TRY it. Even just spraying it with water first loosened it up. I'm SO disappointed. read more

My car required front-end body panel and suspension work after it was hit by a cab. The owner (Paul) did an excellent job getting it back to stock condition. The paint on the replacement panels blend seamlessly with the original panels, and the car drives straight like it did when I bought it. I was somewhat worried given the complexity of the car (an M3). When aligning the wheels, for example, it requires that one place different weights in the front and rear seats to be properly calibrated. I had an independent BMW mechanic check out the car afterward and he said that Paul did everything well. Paul kept me up to date on the progress of the repairs and patiently answered my questions. I was pretty sure I wanted to get the car repaired, but my car is old and I wanted to make sure it was worth it. TL;DR - Fast, transparent, reasonably priced. I dropped my Honda Civic off on Tuesday morning of Thanksgiving week 2015 to get new fender liners put in, get my front bumper reattached, and have a new back bumper put on. These were just a series of small things that had been gathering for months and needed to get done before winter, so there wasn't any insurance involved - I paid out of pocket. I dropped my car off at 10:15AM on Tuesday. I had an estimate by 10:45AM. They started work right away, and I was able to pick my car up at 11:00AM the Friday after Thanksgiving. To save me money, all the parts Paul used (with my permission) were after-market. The total cost was $950 - a lot of money, but very reasonable considering the amount of work that was done - and when I came to pick up my car, they had cleaned it thoroughly inside and out. I didn't ask them to expedite it, or anything. I said I'd be fine getting it early next week. They just did it fast because they could. I'd recommend them to anyone. N.B. They take cash or check (or insurance), no credit. It's definitely something to consider, but I'd guess that's part of why they can offer such fair prices. read more

Me not being from MA, I didn't know where to take my car after I had a accident with significant body damage to front driver's side. My bad luck brought me to Barnes and Walsh. I only spoke with George on the phone and we went over my insurance policy, basically that I had a $1000 deductible but he thought my 2000 Solara was in great condition and would be worth the investment. I thought so too so I said to go ahead and fix it. First complaint was the car was not ready in the time (1.5 weeks) that he promised me. Second complaint was when he called me to tell me my car was ready, he informed me he only took cash or check. What sort of business knows you are going to owe at least 1k and doesn't inform you that they don't take credit cards before they do the work? Next I went to pick up my car with and wrote him a check. The car did look great on the exterior so they get credit for that. Later that day he called me to tell me I wrote the wrong amount on the check. So I stopped by on my way to work the next day to bring him a new check. When I got there he pulled out a check, that was somebody else's. He couldn't find mine! So I went ahead to work and he called later to tell me he found my check and it was the correct amount. Then the next day I got another call. They had taken out everything in my trunk to use my spare tire to drive the car to the body shop and realized the forgot to put everything back in my trunk. I hadn't looked in my trunk since picking up the car so I didn't notice. Meanwhile I noticed when I made a sharp right turn the driver's front tire was making a terrible squeak. So I brought my car back to George so he could take a look. He called me later and said he took it for a drive and didn't notice anything. So I had to take the bus to the shop and drive it for him to demonstrate the squeak. So he did some more work, free of charge, and it seemed to go away for a day. Then I drove the car on the highway and noticed that it would start to shake at 60mph. They had put a new tire on the front drivers side and not balanced the rest of the tires. He told me insurance wouldn't cover that so I called the insurance and they told me different. So I took it back to George and they fixed that. Meanwhile the squeak came back, even worse. I left my car with him another day and he called and told me that it was the steering rack?? That is was really old, had a leak and was very expensive to replace and not covered by insurance. That was the final straw. I yelped other mechanics and took my car to Alewife Automotive this morning. They looked my car over and said the brakes had just been tightened too much. They took care of it free of charge. I will be taking my car there from now on. Do NOT go to Barnes and Walsh. read more

Great Price, Great Service, Great Work. I have been to EZ Auto three times now, with two different cars, and each time the work done has been of very high quality at a very reasonable price. Each case was a small collision, but still required significant body work and painting. The cars have come out looking like new every time. No paint overspray, colors matched just right... high quality workmanship. In addition, each time they detailed the car, including a hand-wax. The high quality work you get coupled with consistently reasonable rates means you are getting a great value. Customer service is also a strong point. Paul is very friendly and up front with you. Just this last time, I could not get a ride to his shop, so he picked me up from downtown Boston and brought me back to get my car! The first time I had work done, I was unsure of what kind of experience I would have, as I always am the first time at a new place. The short story is that EZ Auto Body does great work, at reasonable prices, quickly. I have taken my truck once and my wife's Prius twice to Paul at EZ Auto Body. I did so the first time at my mechanic's suggestion. It was good advice. Each time the work was done quickly and professionally, and on one occasion Paul alerted me to the fact that we would be covered by the other driver's insurance for a rental car. This last time around he found some damage that the inspector hadn't and went above and beyond to get it done while we were away on vacation. My credentials for recommending anything to do with cars or trucks aren't that great. Even at age 76, I know almost nothing about them. Nevertheless, I am eager to recommend Paul Carneiro's Auto Body because I know a good man when I meet one. I've had two experiences with him over the last couple of years. In the first--I had selected him from the Yellow Pages only because his shop was the one closest to my home--the job was so small I fully expected he would make some excuse to blow me off. It just wasn't a project which could be justified under any rational business model. But not only did he not blow me off, he didn't even try to nudge me into stroking him for not blowing me off. Moreover, he had my car ready the next day, even though his shop was full of cars. It was clear to me that making me wait a week or two for this job, which was no more than what I could reasonably have expected, was simply a humiliation he was not willing to inflict on me. My second experience involved a substantial repair. Paul did a wonderful, seamless job in which the color, like everything else, was matched perfectly. I won't describe the remarkable generosity of his treatment of me on this occasion because generosity is a gift, not an entitlement, and therefore it would be wrong for me to foster any definite expectations of what his generosity toward you might be.
