Since moving to the DFW area, I've noticed a few places where the service feels noticeably different when I'm dining alone. Sometimes I'm not acknowledged even when they're slow, the attentiveness is lacking, or it feels like less effort is given because I'm only one person. Jon was the complete opposite. This was easily one of the best service experiences I've had in Dallas so far. He was welcoming, attentive, communicative, and made sure I felt taken care of throughout my entire meal. I never felt overlooked because I was dining alone. I've also experienced poor and inattentive service at the Haidilao back in the Bay Area, so this isn't necessarily a California versus Texas comparison. Great hospitality stands out wherever you are, and Jon genuinely delivered it. Service plays such a huge role in how I view a restaurant, and because of my experience with Jon, I consider this location top-tier. He made my solo dining experience feel comfortable and welcoming, and I would gladly come back because of the level of hospitality he provided. I chose the Premium option, which was almost $50, and for that price I expected a much better selection. The meat section was very limited, and the vegetable selection was honestly pitiful. I've been to many Korean BBQ and hot pot restaurants, and this was by far one of my worst experiences--especially considering there is no Korean BBQ included for the price. But my biggest concern was FOOD ALLERGIES. IF YOU HAVE A SERIOUS FOOD ALLERGY, PLEASE BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL. I have a potentially fatal food allergy, and the setup made me very uncomfortable. The burners and soup bases are positioned right next to each other, creating what I felt was a risk of splashing or cross-contact if the soup base beside mine contained something I'm allergic to. For someone with a life-threatening allergy, that is not something I can take lightly. High prices, limited selections, and an experience that left me worried about my safety made this an easy decision for me. I WILL NOT BE BACK. All of it is fresh and healthy. The Plano location does have way more soup options (I love the mushroom, but this one only had tomato!) but I'd say this location has more topping options. I'm a spice baby, so get the tomato soup here if you're weak to spice like me. A great concept as always!
