As previous reviewers have noted, this thrift store is a hidden treasure! It is a clean and tidy…read moreshop with friendly, helpful volunteers. You do have to put on your bargain-hunting goggles to spot the most remarkable deals but even if you don't find a stunning designer-label suede skirt for $16 (as I did this week--gloat! gloat!) you are sure to come away with a distinctive scarf for $2 or a handy basket for seventy-five cents. Don't overlook the bargain tent in back: anything there goes for $1. Prices here are even better than those at other local thrift shops because Givingtree has to attract buyers a bit off the beaten path --- though in fact this place is less than five minutes from the cluster of thrift shops in the Rancho Shopping Center/Barnyard Area. My suggestion: come here first! It always feels good to know that by shopping for gently used items you are reducing our waste stream. Another bonus: the money you spend here supports the homeless outreach services of the open, progressive church that sponsors the shop. Only one caveat: if the few of us who are in the know don't do a better job of spreading the word I fear this place might go out of business!

This isn't a very time consuming visit because it's really like two rooms total. It's perfect for a…read morequick "I want to shop but don't have a ton of time" stop. I thought that I wouldn't find anything to my taste until I went by the jewelry. I found this earrings and necklace set for $8 total. It might be carnelian(?) but I'm not entirely sure. The chain is definitely plated so I'm going to switch it out (also because it's a bit rigid to work with/open) for a better one, but I'm really impressed by this set for the price. My hometown thrifts just have junk jewelry. Even if this is costume jewelry, the quality feels better than the average piece. I went to a lot of benefit shops in Carmel when I was there and checked their jewelry selection but this was by far the best.

As surprising as it might seem to an outsider, Salinas has an adorable old town. Plagued as this…read moremodern farm town is with gang issues, they do have a few cute blocks of an old town. I took a break from driving down the 101 because of terrible traffic and found my way to old town. I went into Rooms In Bloom because I needed a nice Birthday gift for my Mother and this store seemed to have a very nice selection. This is right up her alley. I like a lot of the things too, but my style is a little more modern...and maybe funky? I got her a cute re-usable Lunch bag, and a tube of fancy scented hand cream, but I could have easily gotten a few more things like beautiful candles, a really nice tray, 3-wick candles, pajamas that were adorable, dishtowels, and more. If you're wondering, yes, my Mom is the sort of lady who loves to decorate her home, cook, and garden. It was hard to choose something on a budget, but the lady working was cute and nice and just let me browse without bothering me, but agreeing with me when I oohed- and-aahed over all the stuff. I also bought myself a couple of hair clips. I like stores that sort of divide their goods into themes or 'genres' and they do this here. I didn't have much time to browse the kids section, but they had a cute area of the store for children and babies. Perfect for shower shopping. Okay I think I said cute about 3 times in this review- do you get the point!? Also, it smells good!
