I stopped in this morning to see what the shop had. I hasn't been in the store in years. I've donated tons and tons of stuff. I feel it's a great cause and helps our community a ton! My friends and I stopped by this place to check it out, but ultimately to get a shirt we could wear for our oil painting on Sunday. They had sectioned off their items into clothing, kitchenware, toys, etc. Some aisles were a bit tight to go through, but stocked with different items that could be usual to various individuals. I ended up picking out an XL men's shirt to use for myself and a tie for my boyfriend that I thought he would like. The cashier was pretty nice to interact with as he rang up my items. I also got a 15% off discount for Memorial Day weekend on top of the low prices for the items I got. This is an amazing thrift store with an excellent mission, they support people in recovery, which is something close to my heart. You can find anything here from an antique book to current fashion. I picked up some incredible buys on things like a vintage Bloomingdale's straw hat, and some Israeli designer art to wear dresses and pants. The prices are a bit all over the place but that's OK, the things that I bought were extremely well priced and they have tag color sales and discounts for just about everything, military, senior, etc. plus they give you a punchcard and you earn discounts the more you spend. We furnished most of our daughter's small bungalow from this store when she moved to Monterey a few months ago. Of course it took a few different trips to find things, but it eventually paid off. Some of the prices were very fair and some were not so much. The employees were nice and somewhat flexible on a few of the items price tags and we always ended up leaving very happy and with a full truck on a couple of visits. As with any store of this type, it's always hit or miss and It's a "You never know until you go" kinda situation. But, that's what makes it so fun- It's the thrill of the hunt. read more

"One man's trash is another man's treasure" but I haven't seen anything here that I want to take home.

I've been coming here since they opened. Sad to see how high the prices are now. Most everything I looked at was chipped and they still wanted top dollar for it. Most things are expensive here. A pair of mens jeans was 8.00 and a plain old Long sleeve fannel was 13.00. Not name brand just generic. Most of their clothing prices are compatible to Goodwill. Couldn't find anything from their color tag sale. Really limited street parking. You used to be able to park in the Coco's parking lot but now that it's gone they've chained it off and you can't park there. So it makes it difficult to find any parking. Be prepared to circle around alot or park a few blocks away. This and their prices are going to keep me from coming back. read more

Really disappointed with the Customer Service. I Went to pick up the the rug I purchased the next day they were closed. and then the storms hit and we were evacuated four times so I did not pick up the rug. When I realized I had not picked it up. I called the store and explain the situation when you evacuate your car is fully loaded with all your personal items you need to save. And obviously I would not take a rug into a home evacuated due to flood warnings. My house was surrounded by water no access in and out. They charge my card $85 for the rug when I explained the situation all they would do was give me a $50 store credit. They already sold the rug. read more

I definitely hit the jackpot when I came to the store! They had so many great things! And all of the clothing was one dollar! I got a lot of namebrand items. Some of the brands were: White and Black, Alfani, polo Ralph Lauren, And much more. They didn't have many shoes, but they made up for it with all of the other treasures that they have! They also had a lot of Christian books! And I loved that. It is a Christian store so they were playing all of the great songs! I really enjoyed that part of the experience. They also have a rewards program. I will definitely be revisiting this location when I'm in town. read more

In the store in a really good location and it's easy to get to we need to donate stuff. I have been here several times I'm getting plastic cups or mugs for our camping trips. But I get the feeling that the staff Don't always test some of the kitchen items a bit more thoroughly like the coffee pots and the keurig coffee pots and water tanks a Keurig for $25 really good price however got home went to go fill the water tank and it completely leaked and was not able to fix that tank I would have to spend 45 to $50 online for a new tank. Sadly the worst thing is you guys didn't get rid of the leaky tank from the Keurig. Then my neighbor across the street from bought the same exact one that I had returned and she had me come over and look at it and it was the same exact one that I bought you just put it back on the shelf you didn't pull it off the floor and put it aside or just pull the tank off and just say that it doesn't work at all I mean come on guys really you tested the electronics but not the water tank come on guys. You have a lot less people at the register then there are a lot more stuff in the back that are unloading the truck accepting donations sorting all the donations. And then some of the staff and then they bring the stuff from the back and put on a shelf but yet there are very little staff that walk around and reorganize the shelf in the middle of the daytime or just check on everything make sure that there's no broken glassware or dishes in the kitchen area. And then I do feel like I'm being rushed when they're closing other stores they announced over the PA system or they have someone walk around and let their customers know saying hey folks we're about to close in like 15 minutes that would be really helpful rather than trying to rush and hurry and get all the customers out before closing. And the prices have significantly gone up since covid come on I mean this is the thrift store this is NOT antique mall. Would also like to point out that $8 for an unmarked stainless steel water bottle come on people and it still has water in it and it smells kind of mildew like no one decided to just at least dry it out before putting on the shelf and it was not a brand name. Also from a safety standpoint of you especially in the kitchen area all the glass doesn't get picked up or the porcelain from a plate when it actually gets dropped on the floor and the aisles are not exactly ADA friendly for someone in a wheelchair. read more

When we dropped in they were having a book sale. And beyond our bag o'books I ended up finding a revereware pan in fairly good condition. Score. Second Chance was a fairly cute little thrift store with quite a few high quality items. The service was a bit on the middling side, with the cashier being on the phone for a solid two minutes of personal conversation before she hung up and waved me over. But the gentleman outside loading the books was incredibly friendly and his enthusiasm was infectious. I'd definitely come back again when I'm in the area but probably only for their fantastic housewares and book sale :D read more

I was looking at items online and called to ask questions. Based off the answers, I made an online purchase. I emailed a few times to get clarification on their return policy since one item was clothing and with COVID we couldn't come in to try on. I never got a response. I came to pick up curbside. I asked my question then and was told that I needed to call and talk with the manager. Upon getting home, I found that the clothing not only didn't fit, but was completely see-through, something not mentioned online. I called and left messages several time about a returning. I really enjoyed this store, and felt that my money was going directly to a good cause as opposed to private enterprises masquerading as a good cause (Value Village, Goodwill). Staff, items and prices are all excellent. Sale tags are plentiful and rotate regularly. They had a wide variety of all items: clothes, furniture, household, all media. I found a nice piece of bark cloth, about the size of 2 dish towels, for $2. I was blown away by the number of coffee table/art books. Clearly this store isn't cherry-picked before they stock! Someone recommended The Bridge Second Chance Thrift Store as a possible good place for me to make a large donation of decent quality household items I had to dispose of. I had no idea what this group was before engaging them. Turns out, it's a very good organization which supports a very positive cause. Their purpose is to help/minister men and women who have a substance abuse problem and/or living skills problems- helping people get on their feet who are trying to better their lives, which I think is fantastic. We don't have enough of these types of groups, I am happy to have found them. Casey, who I dealt with several times on the phone, was very professional, efficient, and pleasant to deal with. The guys who came out to do the job were courteous,fast, and had a great sense humor. They were the ones who explained what I was donating to, and I'm very happy I was able to support this group. This is probably my favorite thrift store in the area. I try to stop in at least once a week to check out new selections. The store is clean, staff (employees/volunteers/members of "The Bridge" job-training) are friendly and helpful, prices are generally very good (especially compared to other thrift shops in the area - what is up with the crazy prices around here?!), and the selection is good. I don't always find something I need, but when I do it is often quite a gem or deal. Be sure to check to see what is on sale (special colors/tags) and the back area has clearance items. Also, most of the filing cabinets have items for sale inside. The only bummer is the limited hours (not open very late in the evening) and closed on Sunday (understandable since it is a Christian run operation). read more

I frequent both shops, the Monterey shop a bit more sense it is near my house. When I'm looking for higher quality second hand items, second chance is always my place to go. Staff are excellent. They have high knowledge of BOTH store inventories, keep the stores organized and clean (well until me and my Motley Crew of three under three come in!) and are quick with the check out. They never once have complained about me and all these kids coming in. They welcome them and have gotten to know them, so we are not only greeted every time but now the kids are greeted by name. I recently bought my kitchen table from the Monterey store, and it is sturdy and cute. Just for an example of the quality of items they put out. The PG store is a bit bigger with a bit more diversity. Again the store is clean and well organized. The way staff uses the space in both stores is impressive. I highly recommend both stores. PS- they have brand new party stuff a lot too! Just look in the baskets next to the registers. And if your local, sign up for the phone number point system (that's free!) and get 5$ off after you spend so much. read more
