Stopped in while vacationing for a few days in Monterey. I and my wife really enjoyed looking at all the nice things available. There was a nice assortment of art, furniture, and other high-end goods for the home from different periods and around the globe. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. We purchased a large Jade carving for our home decor. It was very heavy and staff even offered to load it into our car for us. John's Consignment is one of our go-to spots when in Carmel. John's Consignments is great fun, and the owner has become a good friend over the last two decades of visiting his shop to find bargains or to consign some things that we can't find room for. You will never find anything resembling junk in this shop. In a teasing way, John loves to reject low end items that customers offer for consignment. I will never return to this store due to rude treatment from the owner. He couldn't be bothered to get off a personal phone call to ask if I needed help when I came in with 2 heavy bags. After standing in front of his desk until my arms gave out, I placed the bags on the floor. I was offering to consign some very pricey glass and he scowled at me as if I had done something wrong. Finally he asked (while still on his call) if I had a question. I didn't even finish my sentence when he abruptly cut me off and waved me out saying I'm not taking anything and neither is anyone else! Whatever happened to manners? You should never bite the hand that feeds you, and this 'hand' moved on! PS Someone else was very happy to accept my items with more coming their way! read more

Had 2 lovely bookcases at Johns for sale. I went by and he had them completely covered in Christmas decor with ornaments hanging from tacks all over the wood. Not only could one not see them, hindering all possible sales, but there were 42 pin holes on the face of the wood when ornaments were removed. I did not give him permission to put these tacks creating holes on the front of the bookcases. It was destruction and abuse of property. I immediately removed them from his store. In my opinion they are no longer usable. The holes need to be filled and buffed out. Johns attitude was as if this was normal...."they are only pin holes".....they are much larger than that and visible to the passing eye. This is unacceptable to me and certainly not professional! read more
