Sold a broken gold necklace and matching ring. Great service and paid gold at a good rate. Really cute shop.

A treasure trove hidden in the center of the Crossroads Shopping Center, Consignment-by-the-Sea has…read morea large selection of vintage and antique furniture, as well as art pieces. Just follow the little walkway tucked in between Ace Hardware and CVS Drugstore and turn left to the doorway of Consignment by the Sea. Even if you are just browsing, you will be glad you took this detour. The variety here is staggering, as well as the delightful lack of predictability from vintage and antique creations. Thanks to this store, there is a delightful large Japanese screen gracing our living room, with delicately painted pine branches. We also discovered a pair of red porcelain lamps, a black Japanese laquer chair with an ottoman, upholstered in a red geometric pattern, a leather topped coffee table with scroll legs, and four black upholstered modern dining chairs. The value of vintage furniture is that you can find solid wood, brand name pieces for a fraction of the cost at department and furniture stores. They even sometimes feature complete suites of the same style of furniture. A tip is to keep youe eye on the prices as the long the items are in the store, the less they are. They also sometimes have discount days here. The decorative items are also varied and fascinating. I recently saw a beautiful silk obi sash displayed on a chair and some delicate porcelain teacups. This gem is a must-browse each time I visit Carmel.

This event is loosely called Antiques and Vintage Market. Upon visiting today there weren't more…read morethen a handful of vendors, most selling junk at extremely high prices, and from what I heard going on, the vendors were not willing to barter. I also didn't see a bathroom anywhere on the grounds. Bad move. Plus, there were dogs everywhere going to the bathroom and most owners just left the dogs mess and walked on, one dog in particular, was obviously sick as he was trailing behind his owner coughing, sneezing and having diarrhea as they walked around the stalls. The owner was completely oblivious and left all the dog's feces lay and walked away. With dog flu running rampant in our area right now this poor animal was probably contagious and all other dogs who came in contact with him or the little gifts he left behind are now ill as well. Just horrible. This is truly not an event I would ever visit again. Such an extreme disappointment.

First market in August 2014 was pretty good. Interesting seller mix and decent prices. Probably a…read morefew too many sellers from local antiques stores (hi prices) and not enough indie sellers and 'junkers' ready to make some good deals. A few booths had new cr@p pretending to be antiquities--those definitely need to go. Hope the mix will evolve in the months ahead. And also hope the organizers will get the food and toilet situations up to par. Those make a difference for shoppers. Monterey needs a market like this so I hope improvements are made and buyers show up with ca$h!
