Many so called antique stores sell new or retro items, and items from the 80's and before, which are generally termed vintage. Robertson's focuses on fine quality antiques. From small objects such as jewelry, scent bottles, sewing items, to larger items such as chandeliers and table lamps, paintings and artworks in elaborate frames, sterling silver offerings, to large exquisite wood furniture of all types, some with carved gothic or putti heads and/or claw feet. Bronzes of all sizes are scattered throughout the store to add to one's space as a statement piece. This shop is a treasure trove of antiquities and collectibles which are carefully placed for optimal viewing. One customer wanted to buy earrings and the woman wanted to tell her a story, but the customer didn't seem to understand what she was saying. So the woman said are you even listening , then she snaps and says do you not understand English ?! . The customer said can I please buy ? So the conversation continued a little , the woman just kept talking down and said "oh, never mind you don't understand anything I'm saying. " But in such a rude tone. We were next to buy, attempted to use a card , she barked no card, and rolled her eyes. Then we all said ohh man ok, and began to look to see if we had cash, she interrupted when we just said "awhhh ok" and said "well the signs on the door, didn't you read ? It says no card under $20" . We were stunned at her tone, and she then repeated it hellla rude. [the door was propped open and the store is very packed because it's the size of a walk in closet . He not only did so, he cleaned and polished it. AND he let me try on all sorts of baubles. Located…read morein a 1927-era building that once housed the "Carmel Canning Company warehouse #2," and was granted "Historic Structure" status by the City of Monterey in 1994, one year before the Antique Mall opened in June '95. This place is by far my favorite antique store in the Bay Area, as its 21,000+ sq ft of floor space and two floors are occupied by over 100 different merchants selling everything from modern art and jewelry to old toys and abundant knickknacks. The only issue with this place is the parking situation, which can be a bit of a hassle, especially on weekends. Fortunately, it's a bit removed from the more popular Cannery Row area and on the opposite side of the Aquarium, so while it may be difficult, it's not impossible. Otherwise, come forth and feast your eyes on the treasures to behold. Just make sure you give yourself at least two hours to take it all in, or you're going to miss out on some interesting finds.
