My wife was ready to let her fourteen years old car go. Needed maintenance and repairs were costing more than what her car was worth. I didn't want the complications nor the required time to sell the car from our driveway. I also didn't want to deal with the back and forth of a traditional car dealership. The cars smell like mildew. Like if you leave your window down and it rains. I think it has something to do with the box that they put on the cars. I cannot buy a car that smells like that. Zero stars if I could. We came in with a pre-approved bank loan for a used vehicle, and had a trade in. The loan we were pre-approved for was like walking in with cash. The trade-in regardless of the condition of the vehicle was already consolidated and financed with our bank, Navy Federal, and we were ready to make a purchase on our chosen car. Azim was the one helping us, and despite us having a check that was enough for the vehicle they pulled every card they could. They had us going between Carmax and the Bank, had talked to our bank and agreed to continue with the transaction, and after sitting there for 3 hours we were told by their financing office that we were actually not approved for the amount listed on the check but for less because of an imaginary "negative equity" that was already allocated for! They tried to confuse us to try and force us to finance with them and double dip, refused our check, and tried to coerce us to try to apply and finance with them directly because they get more money from you that way! Lost customer - we will never shop with you. We will never recommend you. And if they ever ask you to take a picture of a check don't do it. I searched for weeks to find the right commute car. I found it Saturday and had it reserved for Monday at Carmax. I had a finite amount of time when I finally made it there (I stopped at some other dealerships on the way). I Test drove the 2018 "Ruby fire red" Chevy Cruze, loved it and purchased it. I was by myself when I purchased it (The dealership is 1 hour away, 4 hours traveled total) so the salesman just told me to park it in the customer lot. So I took my son to a Dr. apt back where I live right when the sale was completed. I bought at 1:15, I got back at 7:15. A Carmax employee apparently hit the bumper of my car, bad enough to dent not only my bumper but dent my trunk in. From the looks of it, it's all cosmetic. They ended up doing a total refund to the lender (today.) Hopefully I can get a new check tomorrow. The worst part about it is they didn't even bother to check stock to see if the car was sold! I drove an hour with my wife and 2 kids to show them the new car, only to arrive to a wrecked vehicle. The next day I talked to Angela, the apparent GM. She stated to me that their compensation to me is "CarMax taking liability" IT WAS THEIR OWN EMPLOYEE THAT HIT THE CAR!! I told her "I bought the car, I'm still interested in the car. Take off TTL and I'll buy it once it's fixed". She replied "When the car is repaired, it will be valued and re-listed" Long story short, I made 6 total 45 minute trips, 1 including my 14 day old son just to get this transaction complete. They didn't notify my when that the car was hit, so I showed up with my family looking like a fool. Sales blamed service, service blamed sales. Nobody showed remorse. Chris (assuming he's some sort of sales manager) and Angela (the apparent GM) did not care in the slightest bit. Even though I had purchased this car just hours before, I was told that I was lucky that it happened on their property, because "if it happened across the street, it would all be on me to get the car fixed".... It was hit by a CarMax employee hours after purchase. Hence the word apparent GM. CarMax is usually my go to, but I'm dumbfounded by how this place is ran. They don't have Yelp for Carmax College Station branch so I am writing this review here for their Carmax branch of College station. CarMax - Lies, Deceit, and Incompetent staff! Allow me to paint a picture of the nightmare I've endured with CarMax: The Bait: I purchased a CarMax care plan with the promise that I would receive a loaner car if my vehicle needed repairs (I was impressed that it will save me time to run for rental and Uber around to get car, felt like great convenience, drop the car get rent/loaner and whole day saved). But wait this all was fraud, lie and cheating. They conveniently left out the fact that this courtesy only applies for the first 90 days. The Switch: After the 90-day period, CarMax's true colors began to show. They started ignoring my calls and texts (when I tried to reach them out for the repairs), leaving me stranded when I needed assistance. Despite having the CarMax care plan, I was told I would have to travel a ridiculous 12 miles to get a rental car. So much for the "care" in their plan! Since they lied me that I will get car loaner/rent if my car needs repairs, wihtout telling me that this bait is only for the 90 days after that I will need to waste my whole day to jsut freaking drop car and arrange rental car etc time wasting procedures. The Incompetence: Their staff are either poorly trained or deliberately obtuse (May be deliberately trying to frustrate me to not provide service, since they already tried to ignore my texts and phone calls, before I reached there in person). I had to repeat my car problems to the first representative two times, yet he was still too inept to write it down accurately. Then, I was transferred to a manager who had the gall to ask me to repeat myself yet again! It's clear that their employees are trained to waste customers' time and frustrate them into submission. The Ugly Truth: CarMax is a company built on a foundation of lies, deceit, and broken promises. They use the allure of a care plan and loaner car to entice customers, but fail to deliver on their word. They intentionally hide key details, like the 90-day limit on loaner cars, to mislead unsuspecting buyers. Once they have your money, they couldn't care less about your problems or their commitments to you. In summary, CarMax is nothing but a den of liars and cheats who will say anything to make a sale. They promise the world with their care plans and loaner cars, but deliver nothing but headaches and frustration. Their staff are incompetent at best and maliciously unhelpful at worst. I strongly advise anyone considering CarMax to run in the opposite direction. Do not fall for their empty promises and deceitful tactics. Take your business to a company that values honesty, integrity, and customer service. You'll be glad you did. I hope their local staff must get fired right away and the person who was handling my case online and trying to run me in loop while wasting my time. Horrible experience with @carmax this has been an absolute nightmare!!!! Was excited to purchase a Cadillac from Carmax. Sent in my insurance which was liability only, definitely understood if I needed to change it to full if I was going to finance a car because most certainly you can only purchase a car on loan with full coverage. Had the car for 2 weeks and wouldn't you know it it stops in the middle of the road!!!! Called to get the vehicle looked at mind you the sleezy workers you have informed me there had not been an inspection done on the car. 2 weeks go by and they claim there was sugar in the tank, hmmm when turned in the car there was no damage to the gas tank door at all flawless no issues but there was sugar in the tank. Requested a photo and it looked like someone just poured it in and over the tank mind you the gas door is still not damaged ok I asked for an analysis of the fuel and have yet to receive one. Got a call a couple hours ago and now the car has maple syrup? Stating the sugar fuel and heat turned it into syrup! Is that so? How come this wasn't discussed in the previous statement when they stated they would need to purchase a part (fuel pump) if a car has sugar it needs to be flushed. Now the kicker!!!!!! They won't take care of it because my insurance was not full coverage!!!! I'd like to know is it standard to let someone drive off without full coverage? No it's not! Your workers are very incompetent and I am already seeking legal representation and contacting the department of motor vehicles to investigate this issue. I have called headquarters and it's been months not I'm iust getting the run around! All I wanted is the money back or a different car without having a repo on my credit because I know if I turn the car back in that's what you will do! This is sad and @carmax is nothing but a bunch of con artists and getting over on good people! Long story short this issue has yet to be resolved. This was out of KATY TEXAS all CarMax has to do was make it right that they sold a lemon car! All they had to do now it's going to turn into a battle! Crooks, BEWARE!! I always heard good things about Carmax, so I decided to give it a go. I did an online appraisal that came back 30-40% higher than any other dealership and I found a car in their inventory that I liked. I came to the store and test drove the new car, while they confirmed the appraisal for my car. To my surprise, they said the found frame damage on my car and lowered the appraisal by 'magically' what they needed to get to the same value any other dealer is offering. I've had my car for 2,5 year, no issues. It was inspected by 2 reputable dealers when I bought it and by 2 mechanics I have worked with for years. None of them ever found anything wrong with it. I call it pure BS. Crooked business practice, should have given an honest appraisal in the first place. Never ever again stepping into a Carmax store!!! read more

I think Carmax used to be a great place to get a car years ago. I still think for maybe a higher end car. It's still a good place. The problem I have is that each store runs a little bit different depending on the size of the store. I made an appointment to test drive a car. I drove 50 minutes to get here and ended up being 20 mins late. I checked in and told I would be called when a rep was ready. After 40 minutes of nothing, I went to check on my appointment. I was checked in but something happened where I wasn't called. The manager Angela won't call me back and I purchased a vehicle from here that did not have 2 set of keys like the ad on their site said, it also said no damage and when I arrive they assure me they will fix the crack in the windshield and will order a new key. They had me drive almost 2 hours to pick up a key that Tesla stated they never even ordered and that they were not fixing the windshield. Thank God I had not went over my return window and was able to bring the car back. I am still waiting for my REFUND that they claim I will receive by mail. Smh. This was my second visit at this location. I went in a for a simple appraisal and the sales person was rude and talking bad about the company. He said that I should just leave and go with the appraisal offer I got done at another place. I decided that maybe the guy was having a bad, I told him I wasn't interested anymore because while he was bashing the company he was being rude and was making really ignorant remarks. I brought this up to the manager after I noticed that when he stop talking to me he went to his CarMax coworkers and stared talking and laughing about me. I ended up buying a 2015 Chevrolet Spark. I'm really pleased with my monthly payments considering I'm a first time buyer. The process only took an hour as well. BUT I just got home today to find someone else's personal information in my folder. I feel pretty stupid for not checking before I left. We had such a great time with Larry Jackson that even if we didn't get to buy the car we wanted, we had a lot of fun talking casually with Larry about TV shows, music and a fantasy test drive while running from the cops. Larry was so chill and rolled with our natural zaniness that it felt like hanging with an old friend that happened to work at a dealership. He answered all our questions, even joked with us as we were being crazy and fun. Good times... So we decided to roll out with a Nissan Cube. Upgrading or downgrading, however you see it, from a Acura MDX gas guzzler! Don't get me wrong the MDX was great, but it was just too thirsty for our current situation and we were tired of forking out $$$ for a weeks worth of gas. Nissan Cube is a interesting car. It's a box with wheels, a total square. I had a Scion xB back in the day when they first appeared; so this little car reminded me of that. It's got plenty for what we need. We don't care about speed or looks... Well, not fancy looks. We just want something with good MPG and something we would love to drive everyday. Larry picked up on this emotional void left in our mind for a vehicle that would grant us this. He would steer us towards small compact cars like the Scion xB, Nissan Versa, we looked for a Honda Fit but they sold it. We settled on the Nissan Cube. A good price, a good test drive, and hopefully a good process for financing. Well, all the above were met! Larry took awesome care of us; everyone was great to work with, but really sold the experience! We joked most of the night about old movies we've seen, how Heroes "jumped the shark" along with other films and TV shows have done the same. It was as if we weren't there to buy a car and ended up getting a great car at a great price we felt comfortable with for a couple of years to come. Of course, I wished everyone's experience is as great at buying a car as I somewhat rambled on about. I will say if you need to look for a car, CarMax is a great option for variety and great customer service! I even had to come back the next day to deal with a small service issue (missing rear window wiper and a battery for a key fob) and they were so awesome.
