After a recent surgery, I was up late one night and went online and ended up looking at cars. I went in the CarMax app. I was pleasantly surprised at all the cars available and found one that I really liked. I did my credit application and picked the car all in the comfort of my bed. The next day I got a phone call from my salesman Charles and we got the car ordered I wanted. When I felt better I went to the dealership and met Charles Webster. He was awesome!! The car was exactly what I had wanted but the previous owner had smoked in it. I was hesitant to buy it but thought I could get the smell out. I could NOT. Two days later, Charles helped me to find the exact same car with no smoke smell and I was able to exchange it within a week. He was kind,patient and above all went the extra mile!! After being told by the salesperson and salesmanager that deep scratches that weren't advertised on the car would be repaired properly I was told by the Service dept and the General manager it would not. If I didn't like it I could return the car. I involved Corporate and the Corporate person told me the General Manager agreed to do the repairs. After speaking in person to the Manager he refused the repairs. Through some base paint on it and said it meets their standards. Wouldn't meant any reasonable persons standards. Their standards must be so low you have to dig them up. Don't believe anything they tell you at CarMax. And Corporate is no help. read more

Buyers beware!!! This location sold me a clean titled truck only to find out a couple of months later it's been wrecked. CarMax stated they cannot do anything about it because I'm not within my return period. And to make things worse, I purchased the max care extended warranty and the warranty won't cover the damage. So now I'm stuck paying thousands out of my pocket to fix a truck that was sold with a clean carfax report. Took a car in to sell it. Got the estimate back and it showed "back tires need to be replaced". Oh really? We bought them three months ago and have driven them only 5000 miles. It was clear they CarMax is hoping you take what they offer and don't pay attention. I challenged them on it and they said "tires needing replacing don't play into the calculation on what we offer". And they also jacked me on the price. I feel as if tho I was vindicated, by all of the new cars they had to loan me whenever my car was in service... which amounted to over 10 cars for days and weeks at a time. My only saving grace was my insistence on a full warranty. If it had not been for the full coverage warranty- I would have been up a creek. From that car forward, I will never purchase another car without being able to review its history. And I will never purchase another car from a dealer!!! The beauty of CARMAX is, you can read about the car and learn its history, for free. You will also know about recalls. They also do a complete inspection, and they won't put any car on the lot without its full history available to their customers. And another wonderful thing is that when you buy the full warranty you get a warranty that is accepted around the USA. So no matter where you are in the USA you are covered. A disappointing visit. Receptionist was blasé with me. This was not the Carmax I had seen in the past.

Car max advertises that they will purchase your vehicle even if you aren't buying one from them. I attempted a sale the day after I paid my 2018 BMW X4 off. They gave me a quote and said I had to wait on the title. I had to wait 15 business days due BMW Financial to clear my payment and send the info to California Motor Vehicles to request a clear title. I received the title and made an appointment at Carmax. They said they needed the registration in addition to the title and my drivers license. I explained that I did not renew the registration since I was selling it. They wanted the renewal notice. I called prior to going again today to make sure that's what they needed. Plus, I told they I had the letter from BMW Financial saying they released me from the lien. That said they could use it. Well, once I got there, they decided it wasn't enough and that I needed a notarized letter from BMW Financial along with the title, expired registration, and my license. The manager had the audacity to suggest I had created the letter from BMW Financial even though I had the envelope it was mailed from California to Mississippi. I asked for another manager who promptly said the same thing. Bottom line, do not count on Carmax to honor their advertising to buy your vehicle. Another thing, the first quote was for $1,000 less than the second with a 14-day limit on the quote. The second only had a 7-day life span. I hate I purchased another car from them 25 months ago! read more

First of all, the initial contact was seamless with the approval application. Once I got to the location, the sales rep was very disinterested. He left us alone to deal with other customers and wasn't even present when we left with the car. Also, the cleanliness of the car was awful. Since purchasing the car almost 2 months ago, we've found crayons, toys and other child things located behind the seats. In the front passenger floorboard was a white dust, which I thought at first sight was carpet powder. It's later been found to be mold. This car was so poorly cleaned and inspected prior to driving off that I'm appalled. We weren't even offered a test drive, and the sales rep didn't even know how to lock the doors. I love the car, but this will be the last time I ever deal with Car Max regardless of city. Tips to improve: show your customers your actually care, CLEAN the car, have a simple grasp of how the car works, offer a test drive, and don't be inconsiderate because you might have overbooked appointments. read more

The worst car I've ever purchased! I did not want a vehicle that had been in an accident and made that perfectly clear when I walked in the door at Carmax. The paperwork shown to me had "no accidents reported" (I still have the paperwork). I went to a Honda dealership and was handed a report that showed the car had been in an accident and has electrical problems. the day after my 90 day warranty ended the car just went dead driving down the street at night. I am a single female and that is not a good thing this day and age. I called Carmax and was told basically "we can't help you. You didn't purchase our warranty." Since that particular night, this car has been in and out of the honda shop. The doors lock and unlock while driving down the street, the dash lights turn completely off, the radio turns on and off, the dash shows I'm driving 70 MPH when I'm driving 5-10 MPH. I am VERY disappointed with Carmax and will tell everyone I know do not do business with Carmax they will not tell the truth and when something goes wrong they will not help. We found John and Joe to be attentive, professional, and honest, returning calls and emails promptly, and providing answers to all questions. We also used the transfer option, and although it was tough being patient, that all worked out fine as well, and the vehicle transferred from another CarMax location arrived ahead of schedule. My wife and I recently had the best car buying experience we have ever had when we purchased a 2016 F250. We found the vehicle online and took advantage of the free transfer from Baton Rouge to Jackson. They had a single point contact that kept me updated every step of the way. Once the car was transferred, the sales associate was very friendly. There was no pressure to buy at all, most unlike every other dealership I have ever been to. The icing on the cake was the fact that they allow you sign paperwork with them, drive the vehicle home, and then choose whichever finance company you want that can beat their rate within 3 days with no penalty at all. If you don't like the vehicle, simply return it within 7 days. The whole experience from entering the door to driving away in our new truck took less than an hour and a half. Of course, CarMax doesn't offer the best finance rates, but it takes minimal effort to find your own bank or credit union. We enjoyed finding a lender from the comfort of our home, rather than sitting in a dealership for hours on end. It was most convenient not to deal with the typical manipulations of car salesmen and finance departments. After we drove away, we discovered that the car was missing a GPS navigation card and that we didn't have the door access code for keyless entry. CarMax very pleasantly resolved both issues without any questions. They simply took care of their customer. CarMax has my respect and business. read more

And if you get a Appraiser named Beau - that would definitely be your worst experience. A very arrogant man and so is the manager on duty. This company is not worth doing business with bought two vehicles from them with extended warranty and have had terrible experiences with the service department and the Maxcar extended warranty people. They have small print in the service agreement that gives them the loop hole that they need to deny a claim for repair. I paid 3000.00 per vehicle for this warranty and it's a piece of garbage. Maxcare will require a full service record for they car to fix a repair. Keep in mind these are used cars and I was only able to give them was the service records I have since buying the car. I am not through with this ordeal I am planning on contacting a lawyer and see what a judge thinks about this. read more

Please do not use this Carmax location. We bought a car at the Franklin location on a Friday. We had our car appraised there and was told we had 7 days to go to any Carmax in the US to accept the same appraisal. When we arrived we were told that this store would be conducting their own appraisal. After waiting 1.5 hours they finally came back with the same appraisal, but treated us as though they had done us a favor. We are still here waiting to finish paperwork. read more

This is going to be long. Everything started off great. I found the car I really wanted paid the transfer fee. Car makes it in 10 days. Day after day after day goes by. I'm constantly been told it'll be ready Monday ok fine. Monday gets her it'll be ready Tuesday. This went on for an entire week after the car arrived. I was being told the next day the next day. Only when I got frustrated and yelled I was told they didn't know when the car would be ready. ( after a month I went on the website to see it was finally ready after I purchased something else ) I gave up on Carmax considered buying locally I live two hours away from Jackson. I thought on it and decided to give it a second try. I called my salesman back Justin Griffin. He never pushed me to buy with them after all he was doing the best he could. I found another car in my price range. They refunded me my transfer fee for all my troubles and offered to pay the one if I found a car that needed to be transferred. They did as they told me and paid it. The second time around was like clock work. I knew everything that was going on had my car within a week sitting in my drive way. I was very disappointed in Justin co workers. When he walked through the door with me they looked and laughed at him. I heard several say he's not going to sell her a car. Watch her leave. They were very rude and made me feel uncomfortable by constantly looking at he and I. I guess Justin is an underdog because that's what they treated him like. I hated it. One lady even yelled during my paper work signing Justin YOU SOLD A CAR and not in a good way. Only one person congratulated him and that was the lady I was signing the papers with. Justin and I became like friends he heard me cry tears of joy tears of frustration and tears of joy again because I was in contact with him for a month. Even when he wasn't at work and I had question he answered his cell phone and answered anything that he could. What he couldn't answer he told me he would once he got to work. Even though things started off rocky I couldn't be happier with my 2nd choice Toyota Camry it wasn't the black one that I originally wanted but the silver one turned out to be a better deal lower miles and XLE rather than the SE I was first in love with. I love my silver one and I'm glad I went back to Carmax. If I purchased another car I would very much like Justin to be my sales man. As for his conworkers they need a reality check. read more

i would not recommend carmax to anyone purchasing a vehicle. i bought a volkswagon from them less than a month ago...2 days in i had to take it back for bad brakes....i was placed in a loaner.....picked my car up not even a mile down 55 i had to turn around and take it back for an epc sensor...i was placed in a second loaner....went back to pick it up....had to take it back for the same issue...ultimately i decided to trade it in on this past thursday, now i have an ford fusion titanium....friday it cut off completely...saturday morning it crunk and drove like it was fresh off the showroom floor...saturday evening it cut back off.....now today i had to setup a wrecker truck to come get it and sit it back on their lot tomorrow.....customer service is terrible they're not sympathetic at all.....i dont want shit else from them but my full refund in which im entitled to...neither car i've driven over 3days......bad business.....so now ill be taking my money elsewhere because carmax aint it....and honestly i think they're getting cars from flood areas . ...do not go to carmax and waste ur time... read more
