Had very good experience in shopping for cars. Jordan Wexler was our salesman and he was extremely knowledgeable and was able to quickly and efficiently show us the cars we wanted to see, test drive them and consider our options. He helped in transferring cars to the glencoe dealership to make our lives easier. Jordan is the definitely the person to go to for buying a used car in the Northshore! read more

This review is for the Service Center at this location - excellent customer service all around in this department - especially from Ron. When I brought my car in for repairs he kept me up to date on the progress of the work, explained what needed to be done and when an issue arose with another part which caused a delay, he was apologetic and helped with obtaining a rental from an Enterprise nearby. I'm happy with the work that was done and I paid less than I thought I would for the repairs not covered by my warranty. If you purchased a car through Carmax and have an extended warranty, I highly recommend taking your car to their service department for any repairs - you'll be glad you did. read more

We had a great experience. The process was easy and smooth. No pressure. Easy-to-work-with salesperson. We would do it again.

I just want to take a minute to review the Carmax in Glencoe IL. Previously I had couple misunderstandings with their service. But after careful consideration that is the best place to sell or by a car. My husband and I had a lot of cars from different certified dealerships. But after an experience with Carmax. I can tell that this is the place to go. We sold three and purchased the same amount of cars there. First want to mention our salesman Durand Hodges. The level of professionalism and friendliness and kindness is unprecedented. He is the best salesman ever. We are very picky costumers. The patience and helpfulness always on the high level. One more salesman that I want to praise is Keith Tennison always willing to help, polite and helpful. Next, the five days return policy!!!! I don't even have to tell anything. Who can beat that. Next, CarMax extended warranty. The best experience ever. Fixed our Range Rover Supercharged at the Land Rover. Warranty paid 8000 dollars, all parts was new and original. Covered all labor. We had cars with different fancy warranties. We can compare. Still Carmax warranty is the best. Appraisal stuff is knowledgeable. The guy found the problem with our supercharger just by listening. Prices they give you either you are buying car there or just want to sell you car is the highest prices around. Financial options are great. No pressure, no hustle, no superiority like other dealerships. Honest, transparent process. This is the future of the car buying businesses. I just wish that all dealerships was like CarMax! I just want to add names of the family members whom purchased the car from this particular store and are very happy customers!!! Valentyna Danilova, Nadejda Koratkevitch, Vladimir Danilin, Yana Kotlyarenko. read more

Easiest. Car. Purchase. Ever. Looked at online inventory. The next morning, Joe Salgan called and put my favorite on hold. Stopped by the following afternoon and learned that Joe came in on his day off to meet with me. My favorite was washed and parked up front. Drove it and 2 others in the same class. Joe gave me the highlights and features of each. No pressure. Did you know the sales person makes the same commission, no matter what you buy? Finance was easy-breezy (thanks, Ryan!). No surprises, no funny stuff. I used to work at a car dealership and am painfully aware of the usual dance to close a deal on a car. None of that here...how car buying should be. read more

Sold my car to CarMax yesterday and overall it was a very smooth and easy transaction. The appraisal process took about 25 minutes, so I hung out in the little 'customer lounge'. The sales rep explained the appraisal in detail and true to CarMax culture, there was no pressure or slimy sales tactics. Although their appraisal was lower than I expected, I admit it was at least reasonable for a car with 98k miles. I left and went to a name brand car dealership, had a horrible experience and received a lowball offer. So I went back to CarMax at the end of the night to finalize the deal. Although I got there only 30 minutes before closing, no one gave me any flak or attitude (which I often hear when shopping at retail stores before closing ---sorry I get off work late). La Kesha was the associate helping me finish things up, her jovial and positive personality helped take the edge off from what had been a very long day for me. She was very professional and ripped through that transaction super quick, it was sooo easy! 4 our of 5 stars due to customer lounge needs some improvement (and kinda the whole sales floor needs some sprucing up...very stale in there), and because their offer was lower than KBB. Obviously I was willing to take a small hit for ease of the transaction, and I will probably always sell my cars here because it was so simple and smooth. Thanks! read more

I had such a great experience with purchasing my car from Carmax. My salesman James Hotton was awesome. Together we found the perfect car and he had it shipped to the location. Once the car reached the location, went in and took it for a drive. Ended up loving the car and bought it that day. My salesman James made sure that I was pleased and stayed with me through the entire purchase of the car. read more

I wanted to buy a new Jeep Grand Cherokee 2018 and I went to Fields Glenview, IL, they treated me very bad, the sales rep was rude and I walked awa then I decided to try different cars, but since I wanted a Jeed Grand Cherokee I went to Carmax and I was able to finde the car I wanted with only 11,000 miles. I bought my 2013 Hyundai Elantra at CarMax, and had the best car buying experience ever. I love the no-haggle price, and feel the cars are priced fairly based on Kelly Blue Book. The car I bought was in great shape. They gave me a great price for my trade-in. My sales guy was kind, courteous, and treated me as if I mattered. While I don't intend to buy another car anytime soon and run my car into the ground, I will go back there when I need a new car. read more

I don't think this place is a bad place, but the salesmen don't always know what features the vehicles they are selling have or whether the vehicle itself is in working condition. I think you can buy from this place, provided you take extra measures to evaluate the vehicle before the 5 days are up on the no-questions asked return policy. I bought a vehicle from them and noticed a mild performance problem with the vehicle. When I consulted with mechanics, they told me the power steering had problems and I returned the car within the allowed number of policy days. Their warranty is expensive, and I question the integrity of their certification process if they miss a power-steering issue on a large vehicle. I ultimately took my business elsewhere. What I will say is that I don't think they deliberately tried to cheat me, and overall the process wasn't too terrible. I'd just like to highlight that you should be exceptionally cautious because you are still buying a used car, despite any guarantees or promises on repairs that they say they will make. The salesmen are fairly tolerant people, so I'm mostly giving two stars based on the quality of the inspection on my vehicle more so than the sales people or the sales process. I would be surprised if anyone had any issues with these sales veterans. You probably couldn't hire better, more professional salesmen, to be honest. read more

I might never buy a car at a regular dealership. CarMax was just too easy. They take all the possible sources of pain and time-wasting OUT of the process. Inventory? It's all online. I wanted a car with a pretty specific set of features, and their website had better tools for filtering out similar cars missing the 2-3 premium features I wanted. Found the car I wanted but it was at Tinley Park. I set up an appointment and asked if it could be transferred. The sales guy from Tinley Park emailed me, said he'd have it transferred up the same day, and referred me to his buddy Zac in the Glencoe location. Zac contacted me to schedule an appointment so I could come in to see the vehicle. I liked the car, wanted to see a few others on the lot as comparison, and managed to complete a test drive, look at a dozen other cars, and get out the door in an hour and a half. Easy. No pressure to do a test drive before I was certain which car(s) I wanted to test drive (I'm looking at you, brand-name car dealers...!) I went back to buy the car, and noticed something I wanted a mechanic to look at. Zac said, no problem, we'll hold this and get our service manager to look it over tomorrow. In the meantime, he'd see if there was another vehicle with the same make-model-feature package in the area and get it transferred to Glencoe. Ok, easy, I'm almost in shock...no pressure to buy on the spot AND he proactively identified some alternatives for me. He emails me when the other one arrives and I'm in to test drive this unit, look it over, and I'm ready to buy. I was worried about getting a cashier's check from my out-of-state bank, and getting it ASAP before this car would sell to someone else. Not a problem, CarMax already thought about that - if you use online banking, you can pull up the account on your phone, show a manager that the balance is the same or larger than the check amount, and they will take a personal check! now *that* put me over the moon. I did a test drive, signed paperwork, and bought a car on this trip in a little under an hour and a half. If you know what you want at CarMax, it's totally conceivable that you could be in and out with a new-to-you car in an hour. I think regular dealers won't even come talk to you in that amount of time... read more

I had a great experience buying recently from John Patterson at the Glencoe Carmax. He was kind and helpful both before and during my appointment with him, doing a great job of communicating just the right amount to let me know that he was available but not hassling me with a million calls and emails, a la every dealership I reached out to. He had cars brought over from the Hillside location in advance for me to test, was ready right away when I arrived, was welcoming to the family members I had with me, and offered assistance when I asked but also privacy and space when I was making some considerations. My family has purchased vehicles from other Carmax locations a few times previously, as well a from many dealerships in the area (a big family who loves cars!), so had many points of reference and were also really pleased with John and the buying experience. Finally, I have always lived in very dense urban areas so, despite being nearly 30 years old, have never owned a car. Also unlike some local dealers, I felt like John didn't treat me like a first-time fool but instead like the smart person who did her homework that I am. My husband will be in the market for a car in the next year or two and John at Carmax will be the first call we make! read more

Bought my vehicle at the Carmax in Oak Lawn because I had researched the car I wanted and they had it for sale. So I'd consider it an ideal situation for the sales person since I knew I wanted the car and bought it without much of a problem...except: Never bother with their rip-off extended warranty and service repair coverage! You think you're buying 'peace of mind.' Absolute nonsense. Carmax Corp. and the warranty company they push are getting away with jacking you knowing 1.) they will never cover even a covered repair because 2.) they've figured out every excuse to loophole their way out of covering like: a.) your repairs are under deductible...b.) it's covered 'but not if...' and here's where they figure out a way to say it's not covered especially if they simply deny the problem exists. This is what happened at this Carmax in Glencoe. I take my car with a squealing noise coming from underneath and I can't figure out if it's a wheel or an an axle, but something squeals like one of those prank whistles when I accelerate. They keep my car for two days with the excuse that the technician left early one day and they couldn't hear any squeal test driving it the next day. I drive it home listening to the squeal but don't bother to go back because it's like dealing with a bad vaudeville routine... they not only don't want to do the work, but why would I trust them anymore? I'm going to end up taking it to either the dealer for the brand of vehicle I have, or another garage knowing the Carmax Corp. and their fraud coverage 'Maxcare' was an additional 2 grand financed into my car loan for nothing unless I am ready to fight them and let my car sit with nitwits who clown with your car knowing you won't want to leave it with them. It's a set-up. The one star above is only because Yelp doesn't let you leave a no-star rating. read more

I sold my car to Carmax in Glencoe and it was a very good experience. The sales person that handled my transaction was very professional and explained the appraisal process to me. I received $1500 more for my car than the dealership that I was buying my new car from was offering for a trade in. I highly recommend doing business with Carmax. If I was purchasing a used car, I would have purchased from them, but I already had a new car pick out and waiting for me to purchase. read more

Carlos Avila is a 5 star salesman. I felt comfortable working with him and he was not pushy. I got a fair deal for my trade-in and a good deal on my new Subaru, which I am really enjoying. It took me a few months to find the right car, get my loan in place, and get a couple estimates on the car I traded in. What I found during that time was many other salesmen doing it wrong! There are many car salesmen who do not get it, however, Carlos does! Trust him with your next purchase, you will not be sorry! Thank you, Carlos! read more

12/5/2015 went to CARMAX to get my 2010 Town & Country Touring Plus appraised. After about 40 minutes (and a very nice sales person) they came back with an appraisal..... $7000.00! Oh, I forgot to say low mileage, 55600 miles. REALLY!!!!! WHAT A JOKE!!! Even the sales guy looked at us in disbelief....shook our hand and said good bye, good luck. 12/7/2015 got a call from a wonderful couple wanting to look at the vehicle 12/8/2015 couple came back at 8:30AM (so I didn't sell it to someone else), wired money and transaction was completed for $5000.00 MORE than CarMax offered us. I agree, if you don't know what kind of car you want...take one of theirs for a test drive and find it elsewhere! I wouldn't buy or sell or even step foot back in another CarMax except to utilize their free test drives!!! OH, the one star was for the salesman. read more

Excellent buying experience! Our salesman Ali was very professional and nothing short of excellent, as he helped us look up the car that we wanted and had it transferred from another Carmax location to Glencoe within a few days. I would have given more stars about 45 minutes ago, but I just found out that CarMax misled me about my car. I bought a Honda Civic about 2.5 years ago from them. The car has run well, so maybe I shouldn't be complaining. What is very suspicious, however, is something I just learned when I took the Civic to a repair place for a Spring tuneup, and to have the exhaust system checked out. Turns out that CarMax sold me a car in which the entire exhaust system is welded together, and they didn't tell me that when I bought it. So my problem with the exhaust now is a hole in one of my pipes. Because everything is welded together, the repair place I went to would have to replace the ENTIRE exhaust system, which would cost about $1000. (They kindly recommended a different place I could take the car to get a welder to fix it for about $50 instead.) Out of curiosity, I checked my CarMax extended care plan to see if they would cover exhaust repair, and it turns out that is excluded from the coverage. Nice, huh? Doesn't matter if they sell cars with welded exhaust systems that would then need expensive repairs, because they don't cover it anyway. And Honda Civics are notorious for having muffler problems. I will never buy from CarMax again. I thought I could trust them, but this is a dirty way to do business. The only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 is because I haven't had any other problems with the car in 2.5 years. read more

I have agonized for years about buying a new (to me) car, mostly because I don't drive all that much and 13 years without a car loan has been blissful. However, I reached the point finally where I knew it was time to retire my 2001 Jetta. Another large part of my new car phobia was the thought having to deal with a car salesman. I absolutely abhor the process. I admittedly don't know much about cars, but I think that makes me a sitting duck and I detest the feeling that I'm getting taken advantage of. So, I looked on-line at Carmax. What a brilliant marketing model they have! Knowing that the price, was the price, period! Took all my anxiety away. I found a car I liked at the Glencoe location, it fit all my requirements. I went with a friend and walked around the lot, they have a large selection, all different prices, makes and models. We spent some time looking, but in my heart I already knew which car was mine! We got no hassle, no pressure. We actually left to go get breakfast, these decisions must not be made on an empty stomach! After returning we met with Winston, who was a pleasure to talk to! I took a little spin in the car and once again, no pressure. Winston explained they are paid the same regardless of which car you buy, and whether it's true or not, I don't know, but he didn't do or say anything to make me feel like I should buy something more expensive. I decided to go for it. The credit / finance portion was quick, easy and competitive and the whole time, Winston shared with me the process and his computer screen to ensure me no games were being played. I wrapped up the deal with a lady named Carol, who was also super friendly and explained all the details of the transaction thoroughly. An hour later I was driving my new baby home. Honestly, I will never buy a car the old way again! This was completely painless and no cat and mouse! If you're in the market for new wheels, definitely go see Winston and Carol!!! read more

Sales side, average. We knew what we were getting into with the no haggle price, but we opted to buy the MaxCare warranty and it has been absolute hell getting them to work on the car. They have the absolute least accommodating service department I have ever experienced. They hardly ever do same day service and if they do, they need your car for the entire day. Had we known the service was going to be like this, we would never have bought a car there in the first place. Buyer beware..... read more

BE AWARE! This Carmax runs your credit report when you simply offer them your license information claiming it is part of their process. We looked at a car said we weren't sure and would get back to them about it. We emailed the salesman two days later indicating we were not interested in the car. We have received 4 loan letters in the mail since. We NEVER authorized/signed a credit check or asked for them to secure a loan for us. We didn't even know if we liked the car. Simply bad business. Managers not much help either. Be very careful about their practices. read more

I went to Car Max in Glenco, IL because I thought I would avoid being screwed over by a money grubbing lying car salesman. Unfortunately, this place is like too many others. I bought a used 2007 Toyota Yaris. The sales man, Mr. Molina, offered me an extended warranty for $2,000. I said I didn't want it, but he kept pressuring me and said I needed it because it was a used car. Guess what I found out after I signed the contract folks: the extended warranty he brow beat me to buy expired before the manufacturer's warranty! He knew I was a single mom on a tight budget. He totally conned me into thinking he cared about my best interests, he just cared about his commission, quota, and profit for his company. In hindsight, that how all sales people are, they see dollar signs, not people. I should have stuck to my guns, but he played on my fear of facing car/maintenance issues in the future. Thus, I submit this review to debunk Car Max's claim to be a classy, honest, customer centered place of business. They are as greedy and manipulative as any other car dealership. I guess you can count on them not to sell you a lemon, but BEWARE, they will try to over charge you for it with their useless extended warranties and/or financing options. Be strong! read more

Scheduled an 11am appraisal and still waiting 15min later for them even to begin. Don't know why they bother with making appointments when in actuality it is first come first served. If I had known that I would have come earlier so that I can get on with my day. Be ready to be shuttled to a cubical and left there without even an offer of water. So after 35min they finally started the appraisal. I had gotten up after 20min to ask how long the wait would be. While I was waiting for the appraisal to be completed I heard the sales guys imitating my question and laughing. I was sitting in a cubicle less than 10ft from them. Finally out of there at 12:10. Website says 20min for an appraisal and they said 30min. Which either way would be much shorter than how long I was there. Save your time and go to another location - even with the drive it will be worth it. I've had excellent service at other locations. read more

I will never buy a car here because they sell crap. I bought my car about 5 months ago and just started using my heat and this awful noise is made. I take it in to Carmax in Glencoe because I paid for the service plan. They can't give me a straight answer and keep using their tag lines so they can't take blame for selling me crap. Something like this should have been found before I bought the car. They try to blame me saying I dropped something in there. I'm the only one driving and am single. I would know if something was placed in the vents. They give you an estimate and then try to say oh you have the deductible but if it's your fault you pay it all. This isn't Vegas. I'm not taking a chance. Give me a straight answer on how much it will cost. Buy from a dealer and don't bother with these jokers. They will wow you when you buy a car easily but get you with their crappy service center later. BEWARE! read more

Well I went there to trade in a 2003 Lexus and to purchase a 2013 Lexus. The clock did not seem to work on this vehicle. When they were advised of this, they looked at me like I was stupid, tried to fix it, and then I had to come back a week later. In financing with CarMax, they have advised me on two occasions they did not get nor did they post my $9K check. In calling the bank, it appears they cashed the check. Many phone calls to get this straightened out. Purchased this car on August 30th, and on December 10th, the battery had to be replaced at my cost. I am still waiting for the title to the car. The check I mailed on 12-4-17 was received on 12-8-17, and as of today 12-13-17 it has not been posted to my account. Pulling my own teeth would be easier than dealing with CarMax. I will never do this again. read more

You should consider buying a car at CarMax for their MaxCare services. If you do research you'll find their cars are slightly more expensive than other dealerships, and other dealerships let you "haggle" the price lower; however, other dealerships do not have the MaxCare plan that is essentially a bumper to bumper warranty. Last week I purchased a 2010 Porsche Panamera S from CarMax of Irvine, CA. I found a similar car at a dealership on Autotrader.com for $800 less (I probably could have "haggled" another $1,000 off the price). I asked the dealership about purchasing an extended warranty for the vehicle (vehicle had 24,000 miles) to extend to 100,000 miles and the cost of the coverage was $7,850. I probably could've "haggled" that cost down too since this was a Porsche dealership, but I didn't even bother. CarMax's MaxCare Plan was $1,900 plus $200 deductible for a bumper to bumper 100,000 mile warranty and I can get my car repaired at any Porsche dealership, it doesn't have to be a CarMax maintenance facility. WELL WORTH THE MONEY! I strongly advise anyone considering CarMax to consider the MaxCare Plan when weighing the decision to purchase a car at CarMax or at a traditional dealership. read more

I was looking for a specific car that was at this CarMax. Between Jonathan and Adam, the sales manager i was able to close the deal and drive back to home within an hour. I am completely pleased with the car and 100% satisfied with the dealership. They made the experience super easy. We bought a used Honda for our son which he loves. When we left the tire light was on. We came back and it was a simple fix. The car had all new tires which is why the light came on in the first place. All they had to do was make a minor adjustment and it has been smooth sailing since. The only negative thing I have to say is if you need to sell your car, you might want to go to your dealership and see what they have to offer. Car max offered us $1,200 for our 2007 Volvo. When we went to our Volvo dealer they gave us $4,000. That said, I bought an Audi, a Volvo and now a Honda from Car Max. Every car that I have purchased from them has been amazing. read more
