This is for my Toyota Tundra purchase. I went online to check their inventory and I found what exactly I wanted. The Tundra I wanted was located in So. Cal. and there was also a fee associated if I wanted it shipped to the Fairfield Office. I made the decision to go ahead and pay the fee of 200.00 and wait for the truck to arrive. I get a call a day later from a CarMax rep and he confirmed everything. Ok and my question was when will it arrive? Oh bout 3 weeks he said. I said ok I'll patiently wait. 4 weeks later it arrives. I find out through the text service that the truck arrived but they didn't call me. SO I called the Carmax Rep to ask and she said they would Prep it for me. I said I'll be there the next day. I show up and the truck wasn't ready. I had to wait for to be prepped cleaned the whole nine. Ok so I finally get to meet my truck and so far I'm happy but there are a few issues. The truck tires were balled I mean barely legal. The truck smelled of a strong odor which needed a deep cleaning. I test drove it and it ran smooth. I was happy bout the motor and the exterior. Unfortunately, the transit times of 4 weeks, the bald tires, and the bad smelling stench made it all unpleasant. No effort was made to remedy these small but major issues. Tires should have been #1 come on how are you going sell a product with bad ties. The smell was masked and not fixed. What should have happened was a deep upholstery cleaning. I bought a 2013 Tahoe and after ~30,000 driving this in town the transmission blew out. This place does NOT test for anything as they say they do. Will never trust these guys again, and when you call, of course there is no one to talk to. They love to sell you a car, but when it dies and you are left with a huge monthly bill, this company is no help whatsoever. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! read more

Let me start off by saying the old salesman dude John has zero personality. He reminds me of the "dry,itchy eye" guy in those old commercials. I'm not asking you to hop through hoops but make the customers experience standout. I've bought 3 cars from Carmax and thanks to dry personality John I would never again. I paid to have a car transferred and when it got here the inside was horrible. There were spots on the leather that looked as if someone tried to fix it with that liquid leather fix stuff. The material used smeared and on some parts of the leather it appears to have dripped. There were marks and pieces of leather missing. The door trimming was torn off and a piece of the back seat was missing. Basically, they misrepresented the car. I was told they were going to clean the car which they didn't. It was dust and dirt around the car. When I asked could that be fixed John replied "No". I asked could someone take something off the price he said "No". Soooo I basically paid to have a car transported that was misrepresented on the site. Mind you I wanted to pay in cash. John was just horrible. Didn't offer to look at any other cars he gave off the attitude of "okay whatever. Didn't walk us out just sat at his desk and I found my own way out. I don't know what happened to the customer service. The 3 times I bought a car here the service was excellent from beginning to the end. I guess personality isn't a qualification in sales these days. I was interested in two other cars but John just ruined it. I can say the guy at the front desk was awesome. It was around 7:30pm. So whoever the young man was at the front desk should definitely take John's job. Thanks Carmax for wasting my time! Oh and I forgot to mention John refused to give me the key to car. I was scheduled for a 7:30 test drive and the keys were denied to me. I asked John could he just start the car so I could look at the engine/run the air conditioning and he refused. I'm only leaving 1star because I have to. My daughter bought a car from them. She hasn't had her car now for a few months but still made the car payment . Soon after she bought it the radiator started leaking. They couldn't find the leak. Then her transmission went out. She took it to Ford to get fixed. Her car FINALLY got done and she still can't get it back because Carmax never followed through on paying for the radiator hose. So hopefully she might get it back tomorrow. This is my second time doing business at CarMax. I had very positive experience with this CarMax location. I got a quote online for my car. We drove to this carmax location. The signs at the parking lots were clear to where to park. Once I walked into the building, I was immediately greeted by the receptionist and directed me to the department for selling my car. The place was very clean and organized. The entire process from dropping my keys and getting my bank draft only took about 30 mins. The lady who worked with us was very friendly, she made sure we emptied our car before they took the car. She even offered some drawing books and crayons for my kids. She explained all the details on the paperworks and made sure all our questions were answered. I got exactly what was quoted from the carmax website. It was very pleasant experience. The people here go above and beyond to give you the best customer service in the world . They give you top dollar for your vehicle if you're trading in. All the vehicles here are being sold at a set price , no haggling ! This means you wont spend hours on negotiating . They work with 9 lenders compared to other dealerships who only work with a few . There's a kids area so that your kids won't get bored during the process ( which can take forever !) They offer free water , coffee, tea, and hot cocoa. They have sports games on! ( when I was here, they had raiders game on AND the next day they had the packers game on !) Ok, so I didn't expect much considering that I've never been to a CarMax before . I know they just opened one up in my area , but they didn't seem to have the car I wanted. Steven Hicks ( the bald one ) was sooooo accommodating , helpful , and patient during the car buying process. We had to keep coming back and forth from Sacramento to Fairfield but he finally was able to close the purchase and we got to take home our new BMW ! Aside from Steve being the real MVP , I have to shoutout everyone else who made this car buying experience absolutely wonderful ! The managers : Justin and EJ! You guys were sooo patient and made sure the whole process was smooth and stress free. The customer service was great and everything. I test drive the car and it was fine. Once I took the car home, after diving more then 2 miles the engine light came on I called Carmax and they said that they didn't have any appointments till next month. I never got a call asking about the car, they didn't give me a rental or anything. I had to take it to its own company to be checked at and had to pay out of my pocket. However, this review is for Mark and I just rave about how great of a person he is. You want to buy from a guy like him because who would want their salesperson to be some crooked person who only cares about pushing you in and out with a car you don't want. A solid "fine." The business model is a good one, no aggressive tactics, fixed pricing, all that you already know. The salesperson was good (outside of referring to me as a "contact" at first and not knowing what car I booked. Nobody likes that.). The women in the finance bullpen were having a good time, and it's always nice to see people enjoying their job. Also, the woman doing the final paperwork was an absolute boss. She was very efficient, clear, and could explain any questions I had without missing a beat. She was a pro. My problem is with the post-sales experience. I'm very thorough, and committed to buying my car if they could explain a couple codes the ECU was showing. The salesperson came back with word from the garage saying they usually see those codes when the 12v battery is low, and they'll be replacing the battery. Great. The 12v battery was reportedly about five years old, so it's about that time anyway. On the third try, he was able to draft the work order, and away he went while I continued with paperwork. The sale completed, and we're done. Fast forward a week, and I get a call from a girl (from whom I had to ask three times who she was) asking if I could come in the following day at like 9AM to get the battery replaced. First, no, I work for a living. Second, what? I was told the battery was replaced. My bad for not actually checking. Guess it wasn't replaced, so as I live in Elk Grove, I asked if we could do the battery replacement at the South Sac location. She said she's check and get back to me. Never heard back from her. A few days go by, and CarMax emails me asking for a review of the experience. I write pretty much what I've said so far here, and a couple days later, a woman identifying herself as a Sales Manager gives me a call. She wanted to follow-up about the battery, apologized for not getting a call back, and asked about doing the replacement. I asked about the South Sac location again, she explained she has friends at that location and will look into it. I explained, before we do that, I was able to trickle charge the battery, and it seems fine. I asked if the replacement would be an OEM battery, and she wasn't sure. Fair enough, that's a pretty specific question. I said if the replacement battery was OEM, I'd like to get it replaced. If it's an off-brand bulk battery, it's not big deal, and I'm happy to pass. She said she'd check and get back to me. Sound familiar? Never heard back from her either. It's been over a week now. Not a happy traveler. I bought a 2016 Toyota Yaris car here 2 months ago. I mostly drove locally until last weekend. I drove to L.A. from the Bay. On the way there, the maintenance light appeared. The car needed an oil change. I had driven the car less than 2k mile. Why did it need an oil change already? I was disappointed but I just gave the car an oil change. On my way back after driving more than 200 miles north, I hear a sound and when I look at my side passenger's mirror, I see the corner of my bumper and it looks like it's about to fall (see pic). I look to my left, and same thing, although the right was worse. I called Carmax service since they are open on a Monday. I speak to Jonathan. He clearly doesn't know what to say to me, so he says he'll call me back. I finally speak to him and he says "You can bring it in, we can reattach but it's not under warranty anymore." So I clarify "So you're telling me you would charge me?" He said yes. I let him know I don't think they inspected this car well. It needs an oil change, a filter is dirty and I don't think it's the original bumper and it wasn't reattached well. So these guys are as dishonest and/or incompetent as the next guy. A disappointment!! They just worry about getting you out the door. They emphasize the 30 day policy. I bought the service plan but it probably won't cover crap. I visited my local body shop. What a difference!! They reattached the bumper and helped me secure it for FREE!! It took them 15 minutes. Carmax you just lost a customer. Work on your service department. So I spent an hour making an appointment for a upcoming day. Filled out all the necessary information and cleaned out the car and gathered all the necessary documents. Went to our scheduled appointment only to have 4 people walk in without appointments get their vehicles offers and one purchased. After 1 hour and 30 minutes later still no help after registration was done by me on time. By now everyone that came. In after us have already been helped. WE WERE NEVER TOLD ANYTHING. Finally my wife asked and they said they had a glitch in the system? I guess the glitch was only for the vehicle we got the offer on days prior because everyone who did NOT have an appointment was taken care of within 30 minutes. What a waste of time I will never get back. ZERO COMMUNICATION FROM CARMAX. Paid for a car to be transferred to this store, after over a month of waiting and 2 appointments later due to them taking weeks to fix and change the break pads on the car (when they had the new pads in stock) the day I was supposed to go in for my 3rd time to try to get this car, it turns out they sold it to someone else the day before. When I called their management the only thing they said they could do for me was refund me the money I spent to get the vehicle shipped. They also let me take this vehicle (2018 dodge charger Daytona) for a test drive with the breaks having loose bolts, causing the car to make strange noises as well as being a major safety hazard. Weeks of my time wasted. I would not recommend this store to anyone, especially if you are a first time buyer! read more

This is our second visit at a Carmax dealership. The first was to sell our Subaru vehicle which was a positive experience. We have returned to make a purchase this time. We had the pleasure of working with Nova. She was kind and very easy to work with. She guided us throughout the entire purchasing process. She took care of our appraisal of our vehicle to be sold. Carmax made an offer to purchase our 2013 Toyota Prius more than what I had anticipated. The financing aspect was different. We were shown 3 different of options to choose from. The rates were on par from other pre-qualifications we had received from outside banks. The 2015 Mazda CX-9 we felt was a good price. We put a good amount of down payment towards the purchase price and we finished the entire deal having money back into our pockets from the sale of our Prius. This was definitely a very positive experience for us. Had this been a trip at a conventional dealership, we would have been there for a long time, dealing with a salesman to walk in and out of the dealing table to speak to a manager, only to end up speaking to the said manager, etc., etc. Everything was in front of you. Numbers are transparent. No haggling. No pressure car buying experience. We're a fan of Carmax. read more

Terrible customer service. My wife and I came to see a Tesla that was listed and run numbers and everything without even driving it because it only had 14k miles on it and was ready to buy but apparently there was a giant list to get on just to see a representative. The only option I had was to test drive another model, that was way out of my budget. The vehicle I wanted to see was on hold for another person, who may or may not buy the car. I already knew what I wanted and was ready to get sign papers and go but the wait was over an HR to test drive a Tesla I wasn't even getting but the one I wanted to test drive and possibly leave with was still parked in the lot waiting for whoever was possibly going to buy or not..... So since I was told I have 8 ppl ahead of me and the last person waited about an hour and they couldn't even give me an estimate but call me when I'm up or text. So we left to get food for my crying 3 year old and apparently they called I didn't hear anything not even a voicemail confirming hey this is carmax just a call. If they had left a voicemail or texted I would've drove right back ASAP but after we ate drove back to carmax and find out they called twice but left no voicemail, how do you expect anyone to know who's calling if you don't leave a message, I had to deal with my 3 year old and squeeze the little time I have on my off day to guesstimate when I'll be seen. So I checked back in and waited another 1 or so and my 3 year old was screaming his head off again and no sign of anyone saying well be right with you or hey there's 5 ppl left nothing. So guess what as I was waiting still I checked different car sites and guess what ppl.. there was a Tesla right next door at the next dealership!!!!! I said screw this and went next door and low and behold no wait the car was there ready to test drive, took it around the lot onto the freeway then off and went inside to talk numbers within 15 minutes we agreed on a price and sealed the deal. We bought the exact model 3 we wanted with the same price! It was funny as we were getting ready to sign papers carmax finally called me this was at like 5:28pm so that was a total of about 4 hours of waiting just to test drive a Tesla at CarMax and the dealership next door no wait and we were out by 645pm. Both my mom and brother bought cars from carmax both great experiences but this was at pleasant hill and before the pandemic. Wish I did more research and made an appointment I guess but my thought was like if the car was on the lot and it doesn't say pending or something it's good but nope. If you plan to buy guys or even test ride don't do it unless you make an appointment. I still can't believe there was a line to TEST DRIVE A CAR that no one was sure about buying. The dealer next door surprisingly had a Tesla and if we got some good rates we're leaving with the car and we did. I selected a car after six months of research. Did the online on boarding a credit check, got approved. Had it supposedly shipped To Fairfield, CA. Shiniqua called me. I returned her call but she was not available. I called the next day an spoke to Jennifer in Texas. The car was sent some where else.. So when you resever a car, its not really reserved. I got all the emails saying I got dibs on it, but it's going somewhere else. Now, my credit took a hit and really CarMax does not care. I asked for a supervisor and all they do is transfer you to their co worker. Why select a car if it really doesn't matter to them. I got all the emails to prove my case. I'm more concerned about my credit score since this transaction didn't work out. I would not recommend this avenue of acquiring a vehicle. This is my first ever review . Fantastic experience and felt at home along with total professionalism. Took a long time but my situation was complicated. Purchased the day before a vehicle in Santa Rosa and it was just wrong. The salesperson in Santa Rosa when I returned the next day wasn't listening and actually tried his best to force me into another vehicle I didn't want. Even to the point where he was ready to submit paperwork for the vehicle I didn't want, until I got vocal. Now the flip - Fairfield. These folks at Fairfield let me walk the entire lot and check out all the cars (Santa Rosa would not let me view more than 3 cars, seriously!). Long of the short - I'm thrilled in the new car and it took sometime but my sales girl was the best (the best!!!) as was everyone at this dealership. So far my experience with CarMax in Fairfield has not been good. I paid to have a car transferred from another state and received an email saying it had arrived. That's when the communication from CarMax broke down. I have called at least once a day to try to get an ETA on when I can test drive the vehicle. I am a serious buyer and ready to write the check. Unfortunately, this seems to be a very difficult question for anyone at this location to answer. I don't understand why they can't estimate the time it will take them to do whatever it is they have to do and let me know. They do not initiate contact with me and I wait on hold for long periods of time when I call. I understand this is a nation-wide business and they may not really care about the customer experience, but is it not good. Update: Apparently CarMax doesn't care if you buy a car from them or not. When I called today to try to set a time to test drive (still trying! I was serious about this car but never expected to have to work so hard to buy it), the woman put me on hold for 15 minutes. While I was on hold I was looking at other cars from other dealers and I found one that I really liked. While I was STILL ON HOLD I sent a message to the dealer to see if the car was still there and they responded -- wait for it -- by asking me if I'd like to come in and do a test drive. Just like a reputable successful car dealership should do (are you listening CarMax?). I test drove the car and then wrote a check and bought it. I will not be doing business with CarMax and don't recommend that you do business with them either. When you experience how a real dealership works you see how poorly this place is run.How do they plan to stay in business if they can't get it together to sell a car to someone who really wants to buy that car!!! I'm floored by the service provided to me by Carmax in Fairfield. My key fob wasnt working so I called and got right in for an appointment. Unfortunately, key fob guy only comes on Tuesday's and that's right in the middle of my work hours, especially if you add in the commute time from Napa. But to my surprise they accommodated me by providing a Lyft from Carmax to my job in Napa (35 mins) and a ride from work back to Carmax (45 mins) to pick my car up afterwards. It was 8AM when I dropped my car off and I was greeted by Kamaya who was not only professional, but she appeared happy with her job, and it showed that early in the morning. Because of her, I felt comfortable leaving my new car there all day. Then I asked if they would be able to get the sticker goo off my windshield that was left from my registration, and she said "no problem, we will take care of it". When I picked my car up, not only was my key fob free and the goo gone from my window, but my car was cleaned, inside and out, and my gas tank was FILLED!!! Gas is $4.35 in Napa, you guys. Way above and beyond amazing service. I'm so happy I chose them!! read more

Unfortunately, I chose to trade my car in that I'd precociously bought from CarMax (transmission went out twice before I was done paying it off). The car I traded it in for is a 2010 Toyota Matrix. 1 month into having it the Alternator goes out among a list of other issues. They had my car for a month and didn't fix everything listed. It's now March and my check engine and maintenance required lights are on AGAIN. I've had the car 3 months now. Carmax is clearly not doing the 125 point check, they are also not hiring qualified mechanics either. I'd give the car back if it wouldn't mess up my credit. This is the last vehicle I'm purchasing from them. I've bought 3 and they've all had major mechanical issues within less than a year of me having them. read more

Coming into the store i was only expecting to test drive a car, but one of the salesman whos name is Nathaniel was super friendly and considerate! He took his time to actually take care of us and answer all of our questions. He was very knowledgable with how everything works. This was by far a much better experience compared to the serramonte location in daly city. The daly city location do not care about their customers. With all that said Nathaniel was so friendly, patient and handled us with the utmost professionalism. Its salesman like him that set the bar for who carmax or any other dealership should hire. Not a fan of this place. To be fair customer service was good everything else was painfully slow. Took an hour and a half to get the paperwork to take a test drive. They did an appraisal on my car which came out about $5,000 low and when I got back in my car I had a low tire pressure light on. Ended up have two screws in tow different tires which turned out to be a pain in the butt so I fixed them myself. I do not recommend this place. Also had a friend just buy a truck there and has had nothing g but issues getting his truck fixed. They sold it to how with damage and didn't disclose it to him. read more

She recommended me 2019 Nissan Sentra S with 30k mileage and she reserved the Nissan Sentra for me from Pleasent Hill Carmax Store. It took 4 days to shipped my Nissan to Fairfield Carmax. Once it arrived, I booked myself for an appointment for a test drive. When I took the Nissan Sentra for a test drive I fell in love. I told Pat I will take the car!!! She helped me to go through the process on getting my Nissan and going through my finance. 2 stars since the vehicles are nice at a decent price. Horrible service however. Been waiting for 5 hours. There is no sense in of urgency to get you out in a new car. Still waiting for more paperwork... Also this is the second time they changed numbers on interest and down payment after initial offer. This is either a scam or incompetence by the employees. But Luckily the manager will come over and tell you you were wrong so that will help calm you down. They are continuously changing things that WILL affect your bottom line price. Consider going to a reputable dealership where your time is valued. I have bought 7 vehicles now from this dealership. The last 2 have had this happen. I will most likely be buying my next car elsewhere where my business is appreciated. read more

Would highly NOT recommend this Carmax, specifically their service department. Their service department seriously needs to be restructured. The customer service is terrible, they have no sense of urgency or care of their customers time. We have been dealing with issues trying to get our car fixed since October. They've wasted our time over and over again each month and we are currently still dealing with this issue. We have had a rental vehicle from them going on almost a month. It's extremely frustrating paying for a car payment on a car you enjoy driving and then having it in the shop for a month and then receiving a down graded vehicle. They gave us a vehicle half the size of mine and it's very challenging when having a baby and trying to load everything in a tiny car. If you can avoid this carmax I would. We will not being doing business with this location ever again. Hopefully they get a grip on their staff and get some training for better customer service. read more

When I purchased my vehicle there it was truly an outstanding experience. When it was time to come back for routine maintenance however, my perception was changed drastically. Initially when I called, I was scheduled a month out due to the high volume of cars they had to see before mine, which was completely understandable. When I arrived for my appointment, I was informed my oil change would take an hour. The problem being that I had called for a 40 thousand mile tune up. I was then told I could make another appointment because this would take longer than they had allotted. Due to the fact that I had already scheduled this a month out and made the necessary changes to my schedule, I insisted we find a way to make it work today or come up with some form of compensation for the time that was wasted. Kamaya diligently worked to get my car worked on that day, and stated that she would make sure my car got a full tank for the mix up. Upon getting my car back, there was half a tank of gas and as I drove off my tire monitor indicated that the rear driver tire was low. This immediately alarmed me due to the fact that when I brought my car in, the front driver tire was low. So this indicates that they did intact rotate my tires but they didn't check the levels? Leaving me to wonder what else wasn't checked. Was my transmission fluid intact changed or topped off? My power steering? All after I spent 400$ on this tune up. Before turning to yelp I reached out to the store, and a store manager left two voicemails about a week apart and waited 4 days in between and received no follow up. So as far as buying a car, yes, they're helpful and nice. But who wouldn't be as they were getting ready to receive thousands from you. But after they get you, then it just seems like a very haphazardly run business with no accountability and not very trustworthy. Whereas I understand that mistakes happen; how they're rectified tells a lot about a company and how they value their patrons. read more

Do not ever buy a car here. They sold me a vehicle and said it passed a 100 point inspection. I took the vehicle to my local shop and they found over 10 issues with the vehicle including the wrong bolts holding in the ball joints. When I complained they towed the car to the dealership to inspect. What a joke. The sad part was is I drove off the lot with my kids life's in harms way due to their unsafe practices. They wouldn't even drive the car 4 miles to the dealer, they towed it! read more
