May have given us more for the car if tee would put it into buying one of their vehicles (this was the first question when we arrived). We were looking for a used car, I contacted Carmax regarding financing a car and trading in our old vehicle. Someone emailed me back telling me they would be contacting me with in the hour to get our financial information, they never called. I did get a email about setting up a time for a appraisal of our trade in but they never called me to set up the time after I told her what day worked best for us. Very bad customer service and no follow through. They lost our business, we purchased a vehicle with another dealership. I contacted their corporate office regarding this and never got a call back or a reply to my email. It is clearly a company wide issue. read more

I waited for a "coming soon" vehicle for months. The day it was available I called to purchase. I was transferred to three different people contradicting each other stating the car was available, the title wasn't there, I couldn't purchase it out of state, and that it would be easy to flip the title. Confused, I followed up the next day and was told they were still waiting on the title, but that the vehicle was on hold for me for two weeks. I specifically asked if anyone else could buy it while it was on hold and he said no. They sold the car two days later. The call center reps are misinformed and should not be trusted. I had all my ducks in a row and lost out on a vehicle I'd been waiting months on because a rep didn't properly hold the vehicle for me as promised. He also slipped up during our phone conversation and called me "baby" and joked that they may be annoyed with me / sell the car from under me because I called a couple times searching for a straight answer. Didn't follow up for two days out of embarrassment and they sold it when it should have been on hold for me. Extremely unprofessional. read more

My daughter bought her car and got a good deal. We tried to trade in my car and the offer was a very low prices. They wanted to give me $2500 for a very clean 2006 Chrysler 300 Limited with all options available. I sold it myself for $6500. The car was well maintained, but had high freeway miles. I would say to clean up your vehicle and sell it yourself. I got me an extra $4000 by spending a few months trying to sell it. read more

In the mean time Jerry help me understand how to use the CarMax online tool to better understand exactly what model, year, features, etc I might want in a new vehicle. There was no pressure to buy but rather to educate so I could eventually make the right choice for me. The quote for the Buick came back. It was fair and frankly even better than I had gotten from 3 dealers. Now I have decided to hang on to that old car a bit longer but when it does come time to sell or buy I'm going back to CarMax first. They were respectful of my time and friendly to work with. Awesome!!!! I had been looking to possibly sell my vehicle, but all of the local dealerships were trying to pretty much rip me off. I mentioned selling my vehicle to a friend and she recommended CarMax. My husband and I were hesitant because we were unsure of what they would offer us since we would have to drive out of state. We went in one evening and received our offer within about 15-20 minutes. Our lien holder was closed for the day, so they called the following morning to get our payoff. Within an hour of them getting the payoff, we went in and everything was complete within about 30 minutes or less. Everyone was very polite and made us feel very comfortable. We had an easy experience buying a car from CarMax. It was our first experience with CarMax. Cecil Wilson, our consultant was very responsive by emailing, texting me back, and the phone calls. We were able to reserve a car a few days before driving from Seattle to Portland. While we were there we test drove the car (Silver CRV AWD) and he showed us another car that just became available. We ended up buying the White CRV AWD instead. We ended up trading in our car which was an easy process because they do the evaluation while were test driving the two cars. Cecil was patient and answered all of our questions. Glad we went this route and got to avoid a traditional dealer. The only downside is that there is no CarMax in Seattle. read more

Feel like I got a okay deal. Then my lender told me the price I got was thousand over high blue book.;-( The salesman said CarMax checks all the car they sale for issues including replace oil and filter. Took the car to my normal service center for a transmission oil change. The tech asked me if I wanted the engine oil changed while where at it. He said the oil looks pretty dirty and he showed it to me. I said change it, later he showed me the oil filter that was very dirty and said they don't get like that in a 200 miles. So for me CarMax is just like any other used car dealer! read more

My experience at Carmax was AWESOME! Before I went to Carmax, I called them and told them which car I was intrested in. Salesman went over the cars specs, and did NOT push me into buying anything else. After a few mins, I decided to apply over the phone. My salesman James C. Asked me if I was sure I wanted to do this, was i comfortable doing this and so forth. I then agreed and within minutes, I was approved! I seriously didn't think I was going to be approved, since I already have another car loan out and my credit wasn't great. Turns out not only did I get approved, I got approved for the car I wanted! I tried with other dealerships and they weren't easy let alone wouldn't work with me. Then I was told about Carmax through a friend, and decided to try them out. I did my work ahead of time (going to my bank, insurance agent and looking up prices of the car I wanted) It still took time once there, everyone was very busy. With a few communication bumps along the way, our experience with Car Max has been great. We bought a 2009 Lexus RX 350 through the Beaverton, OR store and they shipped the car from California for us. Good price, beautiful car, and Car Max has been good to their word on their commitments. We estimated they spent between 12-14 hours going through the 125 point checklist and replacing parts or repairing issues and detailing the car. They have had to replace tires and sensors under the 30 day Car Max warranty. The only reason to not give 5 stars is some communication difficulties that were eventually straightened out. Overall I recommend Car Max. Saved us a ton of time and price bargaining and we got a great used luxury car at a very fair price. read more

Overall a really good experience with CarMax, with Jayson being the reason for it. We drove over from Northeast Portland to check out a bunch of different cars and he was super responsive, without an ounce of skeezy salesperson that we had witnessed at every single car dealership before coming here. He is super friendly, with a cheesy sense of humor, and very responsive when I had questions about not only the cars on the lot but the ones in other locations. We actually almost bought a different Subaru but one of the things we considered very important for a non-local car was to make sure that it didn't have any kind of smell of smoke or cologne and the one we almost transferred in it turned out did have an odor, so we appreciated learning that before spending any money! We were able to trade in our car for an awesome Subaru Outback that, one week into ownership, has been just lovely. We tried a bunch of cars out in the lot and then found the version we wanted in Tacoma which was transferred down here for free and only took a few days. The things that could have gotten them five stars would have been to be much more efficient during the day we came back to get the Subaru, from working better as a team to having online tools to make the process go quickly. The other people on the team there gave us the runaround when we arrived a little early and asked if someone else could start on our trade-in reassessment since it had been a little over one week since we got the first one (one old guy actually said that Jayson needed to be there to do it, and when I said actually I don't think Jayson is the one who conducts the assessment, he admitted that Jayson would "facilitate" it - meaning, type a few things into the computer. Give me a break! That is so not teamwork!). We asked several people until someone finally slowly walked over to a desk at a snail's pace and got the process started. When Jayson arrived he was totally fine that we had already kicked it off so that was kind of aggravating. Along with that, CarMax as a company should be allowing customers who have created a login to access and update their trade ins, rather than making a customer sit there for half an hour to regurgitate what they already told the staff two weeks earlier. We also found it odd that they required we write an actual check because they couldn't facilitate a wire transfer from our bank like most dealerships - fortunately I was able to dig up and dust off an old checkbook to pay for the car. Their website is pretty user-friendly for shopping but definitely not for the actual buying. All in all though we are glad we went to CarMax to trade in our existing car and buy the one that is much better for our changing lifestyle. While you might get a better deal selling your car yourself, for us the ability to avoid the hassle of a private sale and a million people test driving your car and all the time that takes, was worth its weight in gold, not to mention having a nation wide selection of cars to choose from which no local lot can compete with. And of course, no negotiating, which is a relief. Happy to shop there in the future should we need a second car. read more

To Amy S.: I don't understand why you're complaining.... Did you not comprehend what "no haggle" meant...? It means they don't negotiate on pricing. No one at their company owes you anything for not understanding that concept. With that out of the way, here's my review: My wife and I purchased a 2012 Focus here last July and although it had a few issues after purchase, the staff here have always been courteous and very accommodating to correct the issues. The purchase time only took about 45 minutes, and our sales associate, Kevin (I think) was great, and not at all pushy! Their service department also does regular maintenance, and my wife always takes the car to them when it's due. Their service advisors and technicians are very knowledgable and (BONUS!) courteous, unlike the industry standard. I've gotta dock a star though, just because their prices on some of the cars seem a tad too high. A few we looked at were very new models, but had quite a few miles on them, and were priced very close to the MSRP of a brand new one with zero miles... All-in-all though, a pleasant and positive experience. This Carmax seems to be a breath of fresh air compared to the typical dealerships in the area. read more

After weeks of research, we found the Audi we wanted, but it was in Colorado. I called and spoke to Bruce Berg. He got us the vehicle, despite the winter weather, to Beaverton, within the time limits he promised. Bruce and the CarMax crew did an awesome job! They let us drive it, think about it, do some research and have a nice lunch (at the local Benihanas). We even took our time looking at the Mercedes, Porche and Lexus SUVs they had on the lot. For us, the Audi was right. We did the paperwork, gave them a check and took it home. Mike P.S. If I knew what I know now, I would have avoided CarMax. First, their CarMax inspection for vehicles they purchase is a total joke. I had multiple problems with the car I bought. They sold me a car with a cracked radiator that was leaking coolant at the time I bought it. How was this missed?! The radiator problem was only the first issue. Their mechanics were just as bad trying to fix the problems. I ended up having to take my car to the dealer to have them fix it. So check this out, they refuse to buy cars with aftermarket parts, but they'll be happy to fix your car with aftermarket parts. wow... They also low balled me on my trade-in, which I serviced only at the dealer, only OEM parts. So at least the person who bought my old car got a good one. How some of you had positive experiences just blows my mind. I'm now a Yelp member do to this experience, so I guess I got something good out of this mess. Good luck on your car search. Worst car buying experience I have EVER had! I even paid in cash and didn't need financing. This process started November 18th, 2017 and STILL isn't over! CarMax sold me and my family a car that was missing a VIN plate!! Not sure how that got past their "CarMax quality inspection" in Idaho (where the car was shipped from) as well as the "quality inspection" in Beaverton, OR. This is just the start of my review. I will be updating this review once this "hassle free - as car buying should be" fiasco is over. At this point, if I could give negative stars, I would. Unfortunately Yelp makes you give at least a "1 star" rating. It's pretty sad to see this is how multi billion dollar companies treat consumers. Again, I have this all documented and have been writing a review and will be updating this review as soon as CarMax is done inconveniencing me and my family. We tried to make this process as simple as possible by not financing and paying cash - you would think CarMax would love a customer like us. Poor business practices. Sad. read more

Overall terrible experience at carmax. After the whole process of buying a vehicle from them, they call me a month later demanding 500$. They said the payoff from my trade-in was mis quoted (side note: carmax and I both called the payoff dealership 3-4 times and received the same payoff amount from 3-4 different people). I tried working it out and without attempting to contact me after they said they would, they sent the 500$ fine to their collections department. I called the carmax collections department, tried to work it out. The lady on the phone said she couldn't handle my case, she said she would forward it to the guy on my case and he would contact me. It's now been over a week and carmax has yet to contact me. Overall very poor customer Etiquette, and service. They weren't willing to work with me at all and demanded this money with out reason. This company is a real crook, watch out what you sign. They might try to rip you off too! read more

They sold me a lemon. After one week the windshield cracked and had to get replaced. Check engine light came on within two weeks and I've gotten this car fixed AT LEAST 6 times. All by different places. This car just sucks and I'm sure whoever had this car before me took out the good quality parts and put in worn down crap then sold it to CarMax. CarMax doesn't care about the quality of the car or fixing it after. Please shop for a car ANYWHERE else. If you don't know how to tell if it's got good parts or the inside quality, they won't tell you. They just really want to make a sell even if they just sell you a lemon. read more

Our "Fifty Shades of Gray" Experience at CarMax. Very disappointing 1st (and last) experience at this business! Spent $899.00 to have a car relocated to this location from another CarMax location. It took over 30 days to transfer the car, and numerous requests for updates that went unanswered. Upon being told the car was (finally) here and ready for test drive/pick-up, we anxiously went in the following day. We were more than let down to find the "Black" Porsche Macan we had paid to have transferred here was actually a light gray color. Upon investigation of the original listing/website for the car, my salesman at the time completely agreed that the car appeared to be black in every picture, and my Fiance' did not like this light grey colored car at all. As such, we asked if they could either refund our $899.00 or apply it toward another car/transfer. We were told two days later via being relayed by the manager, that they would not offer either a refund or credit towards another car. Really too bad, as after waiting for 37 days for a car to be delivered (of which I believe they actually make a profit on transfers due to picking up multiple cars on the way across country) thus adding the time frame it would normally take to have a car transferred....Only to find that the car was not what was pictured, nor did anyone from Carmax confirm the details of our transfer/car (Like confirming the color, etc) prior to making it happen. I would think a bad reputation/review would be more costly than a refund or even applying this towards another car which we liked. Oh well.....lesson learned. Buying a used car can be a trying and exhausting process; finding one in good condition with not too many miles on it, reasonably priced and in a dealership where your arm isn't twisted to make a purchase, is the exception when it happens. CarMax in Beaverton made the process easy. I scheduled an appointment to see a car over the internet, the salesperson was waiting for me at the assigned time, and we took the car out for a test drive. There was no pressure to buy, the car was low mileage, priced fairly according to NADA and Kelly Blue Book and in excellent condition. I decided to buy it and the process was painless and relatively quick. I recommend CarMax Beaverton as a required stop when hunting for a good used car. read more

This was a complete disaster do not shop Car Max. They took my car in knowing I had radiator Issues and drove it anyway returned the car with blown out gaskets. My car is no longer drivable and to make the situation worse they ran my credit 12 times on a hard pull, I was told it would be a soft mark not 12 hard. Now stuck with a bigger situation and a drop in credit score. I decided to speak to general manager Mark who was completely rude and had no intention to try to help or discuss the situation. I then advise I would be looking into legal advice and he then replied if you are looking to go that route you will have to talk to corporate and slams the phone and hangs up. This is not how a corporate dealer should handle any situation and I advise not to do business here. This by far has been the worst customer service and I'm not the only person that has gone through similar situations here. I am a general manager in my profession 12+ years and would never represent my corporation in this way worse represent my store in this manner. read more

I went to this location, 9405 SW Cascade Ave., Beaverton, OR 97008 to see what my 99 GMC Tahoe would be worth on a sale or trade-in. We drove up to the offices and I entered the show room of many agents sitting at their desks and not one customer in the place. The time was 11:50am. I explained to the male receptionist that I wished a quote of value for my vehicle as I am contemplating the purchase of a new vehicle. After several minutes he declared there we no agents available to give me a value estimate as all agents were waiting for their 1pm appointments. Again the time was 11:50am and their appointments were a hour from then. He asked if I wanted to make an appointment and return at that time. I said NO! I walked out the door and I am likely never to return. This place is worse then the typical used car lot in that they don't seem to want your business, or perhaps I did not meet their social requirements. In any case I do not wish to be treated like that and will purchase my next vehicle somewhere else than CarMax. I rated them a 1 because there is nothing lower. read more

Only contact CarMax Beaverton if you enjoy wasting time and experiencing terrible customer service. The unpleasant experience began with a salesperson "Kim" responding to my completely reasonable questions with unacceptable tone and attitude. It did not seem like Kim had any motivation to sell the car. After contacting Kim and being promised a return call multiple times I never received a callback. Not to mention I had to call the CarMax store MULTIPLE times and leave messages to get in touch with another sales associate. Kim took 0 initiative in connecting us with one of his associates. The unpleasant experience continued when Sales associate "Randal" was asked a few general questions by my colleague (who is purchasing the car). When we asked to disclose any damage on the used vehicle Randal said we can come down and check it ourselves. We are very busy and live nearly 25 hours from where the location of the car, we were astonished by Randal and Kims lack of sensitivity to this issue. Randal was attempting to hide damage and refused to send us pictures of the vehicle after hours of us pleading for more information thus preventing a potential deal. Management has been made aware of the situation and hopefully, some changes will be made. Nether the less I will never shop with CarMax again. read more

The vehicle took three weeks to arrive from California. The sales person was good and the transaction was good. The thing that went bad was when I took the vehicle back within the three days after my mechanic went over it. He stated he was not a tire expert but was concerned about the wear on the back two tires. Took it to Les Schwab and Discount Tire. Both tire companies found 5/32nd and 4/32nd of tread depth, the tread separating from the tire, and recommended replacement. I took this information to the Service Department at Car Max, sat their for 45 minutes only to be told that because they could not find the required 3/32nd tread depth which is the requisite for replacement by Car Max standards. I asked to speak to the service manager and was transferred to Darryl a sales manager. Darryl stated that they had contacted Les Schwab were I took the vehicle and talked to the individual who had looked at the vehicle. This was very disconcerting since I had not provided the location or individual I spoke with at Les Schwab. It went down hill from there. I caught Darryl in a lie and he fumbled from there. The service people were also talking about the car in front of me after waiting for 45 minutes in whispers, I felt very disrespected and just wanted to get out of there. If you go this route to purchase a car please make sure you do a full inspection of the vehicle and have all your information in order. The experience was okay in the beginning but I left feeling very disappointed and frustrated in the end which made what could have been a great experience very negative. read more

The actual purchasing process was fairly painless. I feel we received a decent purchase price and a reasonable trade in price. The salesman tried hard, but was inexperienced and we knew more about the cars than he did. As a result, we ended up buying a car based on false info. To be fair, the information given to us was inaccurate due to ignorance, not malicious intent, but still, we are stuck and they are unwilling to rectify the issue. If you shop here, double check all facts, don't believe the salesman without verifying info independently. read more
