Okay, I'll be honest I was skeptical, more than skeptical to come here. We were on the lookout for a gently used car so I finally relented because they had the car I wanted. I went kicking and screaming, no honestly I made my husband take me to breakfast first. I just couldn't fathom finding a car and the process being easy. Boy was I wrong! I loved that we got to casually look at all the cars at our own pace with no overbearing salesmen breathing down our necks. Our saleswoman was the opposite of pushy and never made me feel pressured to make a decision. We ended up buying the Acura I looked at with very little stress and annoyances. Even better, they offered to buy my old car and the deal was in line with Kelly Blue Book and made the process so much easier! Sold us a car at full price with frame damage. They didn know the car was involved in an accident. Did nothing about it. Got stuck paying full price for car with frame damage. Cars worth 400 dollars because of the damage on frame and now title is salvage. However we did not buy the car salvage nor would we have ever bought a car with frame damage or salvage title to begin with. We got screwed and they did nothing or want to do nothing to help. Basically Told us sorry that our bad is now your bad. We wanted to trade car back. They said 10k down and we'll take the car back. I'm not paying them 10k to take their broken car back. This review is for the service department. We have had a great experience dealing with them. We've needed to take our vehicle in a few times since our purchase a year ago. They are always very, very busy because they are the only Carmax in the southern Central Valley, so expect appointments to be pushed out a week or two. Yet, no matter how busy they are the team there always manages to keep their cool and keep a high level of customer experience. We usually deal with Lily, she's awesome. She is very friendly and makes sure you and your vehicle are taken care of. I recommend Carmax mainly because of the great experience I've had with the service team. Keep up the great job! read more

It has been a 1 year and 2 weeks since I bought my 2018 highlander from CarMax. In the last two weeks I've had to buy all new tires, rotors, breaks, and my battery died. I don't have any evidence to support this but I find it suspicious that very shortly after 1 year my car is all of a sudden having all of these issues. I am assuming they put the cheapest parts on the car just to meet the bare minimum to legally sell. The processes of buying a car was easy, but the quality of parts on my car is very displeasing. Unfortunately I had a bad experience here... Extremely unprofessional. Got a quote online to sell my vehicle, scheduled my appointment, showed up 15 min prior to my appointment. Talked to the lady up on the front let her know I had an offer and I asked her if there was a long wait she mentioned looks like there might be someone ahead of me and to have a seat. 45 min went by when to ask someone why it was taking so long only to find out she never checked me in so I had been waiting for no reason then the guy was like I'm sorry I'll get you helped now so he took me to another place got all my info and turned in the key. Another 25 min went by and I went to check on the wait only for them to tell me apparently only 1 person doing the appraisals and were backed up... I grabbed my keys and left... completely wasted over an hour of my time.. what's the point of making appointments then? Usually an appraisal should take 15 or so. They need better communication or they just don't take care for buying cars. Why would I care to come back and buy a vehicle from them if I was treated this poorly. Drove 2 hours to test drive the the 2016 Acura mdx. Overall it runs great but very dirty, also food stain on arm rest and cup holder in the back seat was very visible. Asked them to clean and detail. They did a crappy job. Looked like they just wiped the dash board and that's it. Center console (what ever you call it) was sticky with dirt and grime, everywhere else was still dusty and dirty. Was already there for nearly 3 hours. I was getting tired and had already returned my car rental. Can't stand to be there another minute longer for I had to drive another 2 hours back home. I don't expect a 2016 to be in top condition but by golly, it was dirty. I felt nasty being in it but needed a car fast. Got tired of paying for the rental. read more

I had a 12:30 appointment, waited for over an hour, got the appraisal, faxed info from VW...only to be told 4 hours later they cannot buy my car because they don't like "dealing" with VW credit. NOT OK! And a LIE! We called the corporate office and they said they accept VW. Clearly the manager just decided they didn't want to do it. BEWARE of this location. I ordered a truck that was located in Kansas. Paid $1100 for shipping fees which took over 2 weeks to receive. I spoke with the manager in person and he was able to expedite the readiness once they had received it. Unfortunately after I took the truck home I realized it was not the Z71 package that it was advertised as. Just a "clone" the previous owner had added stickers etc. I immediately called my sales associate Pam. Who without argument, told me I can bring the truck back for a return. I found another truck that was closer and what I was looking for. She brought it in within 3 days I was able to exchange trucks with no issues. Pam was awesome to work with and made things so easy. She even was able to get her manager to refund my shipping costs on the first truck! The New truck is just what I was wanting no complaints. ZERO STARS! WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!! I purchase a transfer and waited three hours for my vehicle and when I finally got it at 9pm, Kerry Vaughn failed to walk through the vehicle with me as he gave me my keys and took a picture of me and sent me on my way with a freshly wrecked car! Unbeknownst, I got in 'my new' car and drove off exhausted and when I got in the car the next morning I noticed the filth in the car, a used mask was left (make-up on it), the back was sandy and it had a couple of cigarette burns. I let Kerry know and sent him pictures to prove and he offered a detail job which I politely decline because I thought I'd do a better job cleaning and detailing it myself at that point. A week later, I noticed the passenger door made a noise when I opened the door and noticed it was clipping the bumper. I took it to Carmax Bakersfield to have the cigarette burns and the damage door repaired. They scheduled me two weeks out to later tell me at my appointment that they don't repair body damage and were convinced it was my responsibility because I didn't notice it when purchased it and conveniently noticed the bumper was scrapped and said someone must have hit me! I would have believed that if there were no signs of a touch-up! Someone hit it and tried to cover it and then sold it to me! I have strong believe that it was Carmax when they pulled my car out of their jammed packed car lot! I called Carmax Corp. and they had their Bakersfield service manager, Alyssa contact me to tell me I could return the vehicle within the 30 days. It was a 5 year old truck with less that 30k miles it was in excellent condition, we had already booked it out and they didn't even want to give us near low blue book. They don't even negotiate, done deal. So that was it we left and ended up selling our truck the next day on Craigslist for $9,000 more than they wanted to give us. So I don't know if you can't sell your vehicle yourself then I guess this could be your last hope. I wish I could give this place no stars. I have never experienced the worst customer service like I did at this location on colony st. I made an appmnt and was there for almost 5 hours past my appoinment time waiting for an appraisal. I never got my offer presented to me until I asked the person at the desk for an update and even he seemed surprised that no one had informed me about it as it had been clearly ready for some time while many other employees just stood around talking amongst each other. took my fiancées car here for an appraisal on her 2018 mustang (30k miles) that we originally bought from them. we had used their online appraisal service that originally offered us 19k. in person appraisal took roughly 30/40 minutes. he came back and said "i'm not a technician, but the car shifted hard once" and took $3,000 off of their initial offer. he then told us to take the car to ford to fix the transmission then we could bring it back. car is perfectly fine, never had any issues with the transmission. waste of time. have an actual technician appraise cars. read more

Background: my family has bought from CarMax several times over the past decade, nothing but positive experiences. Often we will go look around the lot just to see whats there, do some market research, which you're able to do because you don't need an appointment at CarMax to look around the lot. However we showed up at the Bakersfield CarMax today just to look around when we were stopped in the lobby by a saleswoman. At first I thought she was just being courteous and greeting us but it quickly turned into a 20 questions session- why are we here? Who are we working with? Have we been here before? She laughed at me when I said I'd been here loads of time and knew how it worked and was just here to look. I had to repeat myself four times that I was just looking because she wouldn't leave me alone or let me walk away. She even asked me "Why are you here if you're not here to buy something?"" Overall she was very condescending and pestering- the whole point of CarMax is they're supposed to not hassle you into a sale, and this woman left a poor impression to say the least. read more

I bought a 2011 Tacoma and paid above BlueBook value, which is fine because it is the exact truck I wanted. Within the first week, I had an AC blower fan go out and Carmax was quick about fixing it (glad the truck included a 30 day warranty). Scheduling was easy and the process was fast. All the workers were great; friendly and polite, Carmax has an awesome staff. However, I was promised that my vehicle registration would be paid for, which is part of the reason I paid a premium for the vehicle. Two weeks ago I received the license plates in the mail with a $225 bill to renew registration. Carmax refused to issue me a check to pay for the registration and their legal department has not responded. On top of that, my battery died, so I had to replace that myself since my 30 day warranty ended. So much for vehicles being "Carmax Qualified." read more

This is the 2nd time I have issues with this store, the first was multiple employees discriminating me and today it was the lack of customer service. I had been trying to reach the service department for 2 hours. To get a status update on my car couldn't get through to them so I drove across town to speak to them face to face. Turns out my car needed to stay another day since it wasn't ready. It would've been nice to be to be notified but I guess it was too much. Then I'm told I need to get a loaner vehicle that took a hour and a half only for them to tell me it's unavailable and they need to give me another vehicle. Fine. Bought a car last year. Our sales person was great, otherwise the customer service was like the red bow....once you leave the lot it's never seen again. We bought a used BMW and thankfully got the extended warranty. The plastic cover under the car was dragging on the ground a day after we took ownership. They did some cheap fix to get it off the lot. We called CarMax Bakersfield service on random noises the car was making. We never got a call back and when we called the Service Manager her people said it had been over 30 days and sorry. Never mind we called at like day 7 and they never called back. CarMax talks about inspections, but they seemed to have missed front end alignment, the said cover under the car, the right rear axle being trash and needing replacement 4 months after we got the car and the latest problem of the driver's side drive in back. It was very easy to buy the car and my sales person, Aaron Mayberry was great. I recommend him. The car seems to be OK though I read some other reviews that stated people had big problems. So far, I have had a good experience. I had the car checked out with my mechanic the next day and found that even tho the accident report was clean, the car HAD been in an accident, it was not reported. Mechanic said there was no frame or body damage evident but items had been replaced. It had been partly or fully repainted. I kept it. My biggest complaint is the staff doesn't listen to a word you say. I said about 15 times my legal address was my PO Box and every piece of mail I have gotten since then is to my physical address, which the post office kindly forwarded. This means means, my registration, (when it shows up) will be wrong too, and require my personal time a trip to the DMV. read more

I drove from Los Angeles to get a Mercedes Benz convertible had cash on hand and approval of my personal bank... once I arrived I seen the car and loved it didn't test drive it just inspected and open the top and said I'll take it... they went to go wash it and once the car came out an EMPLOYEE decides to draw a PRIVATE PART ON THE SOFT TOP ON THE CONVERTIBLE.. it was disgusting to see this my little kids seen this and were confused as why would a business do that to my car !!!!
