If the vehicle isn't in your area you pay a non refundable $99 to have it delivered. I received texts and emails from start to finish about the progress. When the vehicle arrives a 125 point check is done. You have a report on ownership & car history. Even though my vehicle is still under dealer warranty I opted for the 5 year CarMax warranty as well because it covers so much. CarMax also has car repair on sight. Since I bought a Hybrid this is especially appealing because other wise it means going to a dealership or finding a certified hybrid repair business. Vishav was my sales rep today. So friendly and helpful, I can't say enough about how helpful he was. He made my car buying experience easy and stress free. I had wanted to buy locally but they just didn't have the inventory of hybrids that I was looking for. CarMax has all the inventory you could want. We had a great experience with Carmax although we ended up having to return the vehicle. My husband wanted to trade in his Tesla and purchase a truck. The process was seamless and we had no issues with the Bakersfield branch. We ended up getting a truck from Carmax in Palmdale that had issues but Bakersfield branch handled the issues and return in a professional and helpful manner. I had a very frustrating experience with the Bakersfield CarMax location. I drove about 4.5 hours after completing all the paperwork ahead of time to trade in my truck for one of theirs. Everything was supposedly ready, and I was told there would be no issues. When I arrived, after spending an entire day, gas, and travel time, they informed me that they did NOT have the title for the vehicle and therefore could not complete the sale. This is something they should have verified long before telling a customer to make a long trip. What made it worse was the complete lack of help or accountability. The Bakersfield store staff offered no real solutions, and customer service was equally unhelpful. No one seemed to care that they had wasted my entire day and cost me time and money. When we first arrived five minutes before our appointment, we went to the front where there was an associate and we had a question about the car we reserved because apparently there was an issue with the electric mile range .We ended up not purchasing because of the unfortunate circumstance of being told I it would only have a 49 mile range and not the 80 mile due to the battery issue, because there was a major issue and we honestly wouldn't be able to drive it back home since it was a two hour commute. She went back to talk to a manager who mentioned the problem and the refund from our earlier conversation that day for the transferable fee for this rare circumstance and my husband wanted to try resetting the range in the car so before we move onto another one, he just wanted to double check if he could maybe try to fix it and just needed the keys. We were just waiting and then she came back saying your next up and that we could either wait in the lobby or go out to see the cars outside. We go out side and about 22 minutes later after waiting , we went back inside to ask someone ,"hey is anyone gonna help us out"? Another associate mentioned we should be getting a phone call and I said I did but there was no one on the other line and so I ended up just hanging up after no one on the line answered and then he said no it should be coming from someone from our store not the call center . Then my husband went back in again and there was a different woman from the one we first met and he was saying we had an appointment and we were waiting almost 30 + minutes. She said " wow you're only waiting 30 minutes it's not that long .....she said it really rudely and then my husband came out and said wow she was really rude. Plus she mentioned that we weren't even checked in ...We both were thinking wow this place is unorganized on the first appearance. We were waiting and maybe another 10 minutes then we finally get a phone call. The red redemption that came out of this was when we had Bransen as the sales associate for why there's only a four star and missing one because of that one associate being rude and the whole 30+ minute ordeal. He ended up getting the keys so we could try to fix the setting but apparently because of the battery issue it stayed at 49 like range so we couldn't fix it and we had to move onto another car . He was very patient, helpful and turned the whole appointment experience around. We ended up finding another car within our budget and we're happy to have a really knowledgeable associate. I made an appointment ahead of time to get my truck appraised. Corporate told me this would take 30-40 minutes at the dealership. I show up in person to be told "that's not going to happen, it's going to be at least an hour". So I left. Second day I go back. I check in at 10:20AM and I am told I am first in line. I wait in the waiting room until 10:48AM when I go back to the desk to ask how much longer the wait will be. Melissa tells me "you checked in 7 minutes ago". I tell her no I've been waiting 30 minutes. She proceeds to argue with me about how long I've been waiting. I cancelled and walked out. There is no customer service in this establishment nor do they value their customers time. I will not return and I will not recommend this place to anybody. read more

From the very second we walked in, he was super helpful and allowed us to look around without creeping. He was also very mindful of our budget and did everything he could to help us as we wanted to test drive a few but since I only have a paper license (which my real one is getting mailed), he worked to override the system for our satisfaction! Bought this vette off of carmax just to realize when i get home and removed the front plate that they did not use appropriate hardware and drilled directly into the front bumper to apply the front license plate. they told me they do that to all there vehicles but i see other cars that have transferred from a different carmax use some type of glue instead to not damage the bumper and others that have appropriate hardware. this location is just lazy. told them to fix it or return my money and i swiftly got a refund. read more

First the good. I sold my car to them and they gave me exactly what my online quote stated. For that I give them 5 stars. Now for the bad. A week later I went there with a friend and found the salesgirl to be rude and not very knowledgeable about the car she was trying to sell us. It was a 2024 model year. I quickly did an online search and found that a new 2025 was $4,000.00 less than what CarMax wanted for the used car. I get a $356 bill in the mail, call CarMax to see what's going on, and get some very rude and apathetic customer service. The business representative was very catty with me, interrupted me, then hung up on me. 3:00 appointment to get my car appraised. Arrive at CarMax at 2:50. "We don't have any salesman available right now, so we'll call you when we do. We have 1 appointment ahead of you too." Receive phone call at 3:21 Bransen calls from CarMax asking me questions about my vehicle. (Bransen is rude, but not the focus of this post. Other guy from CarMax comes out at 3:40 to inspect my vehicle. Guy notes that my car has been very well taken care of and has so few miles they don't even need to test drive it. At 4:15 I get the offer for my vehicle, $6,500. Now I expected a low ball offer because obviously it's a dealership, but my car is being sold on CarMax's website for $12,000 (and that's for older models with more miles). 2023 Genesis came from Oklahoma took about a week but it got there. Nice car. Received it, but had to take it to Genesis for a recall fuel pump. I spent $22,000 on a Mini Cooper and extended service warranty and the check engine light came on within 20 miles of driving. I called Monday and was unable to get any service people on the phone. When I did, they told me that I needed to keep driving it and that the first appointment was 2 weeks out. I made that appointment and when I called to check on it they said that their service technician called in sick and no one has time to look at it. They "hope" that they will be able to look at it tomorrow. This service is ridiculous. They should call their department The "Inferior Service" department. I will never come here again. Sold me a car 2016 Chevy Tahoe during COVID online been dealing with electrical problems buying 3-4 batteries a year. I'm paying 546.00 dollars for a car that shuts off on me in traffic and they refuse to do anything about it. Also car fax shows two accidents in the front and two accidents in the back of my car which they told me there was no problems with my car. Cars worth 400 dollars because of the damage on frame and now title is salvage. However we did not buy the car salvage nor would we have ever bought a car with frame damage or salvage title to begin with. We got screwed and they did nothing or want to do nothing to help. Okay, I'll be honest I was skeptical, more than skeptical to come here. We were on the lookout for a gently used car so I finally relented because they had the car I wanted.
