Resident for 2 months. The staff is absolutely fabulous. Director, sales manager, facilities coordinator, receptionist, a.k.a. director of first impressions, kitchen, staff, maids, all very caring and focused on getting things done. The residents are very nice and have made me feel welcome. The kitchen is improving since a complete makeover last month. Gated parking for those who need it. Just a feel good communal atmosphere. Honestly, this place is on another level. The staff is super genuine, always smiling, and you can tell they actually enjoy what they do. The whole community feels warm, clean, and welcoming. My wife and I moved here in March of last year. So we've seen many changes already and all for the positive. Nathalie, the Sales Director, was very informative and helpful in guiding me to each type of apartments available. When I first visited the Carlton, I didn't notice any "old person smell". You know the smell I'm talking about! That Ben-Gay, medicinal smell in some facilities? Not here! Fresh like after a spring rain! The two bedroom apartment we chose was clean, painted and ready to move in...which we did. When we moved in, over a year ago, we signed up for the hot meal program. You chose a dinner from the weeky menu and they delivered the meal to your apartment. No daily breakfast (just continental) no lunch. Just dinner. To be honest, it wasn't that great...for us. We hardly ordered anything. Then we heard they were putting in a Bistro style dining exerience. Let's just say..it was a wonderful idea!! Now meals are offered from 7am to 6pm daily with Sunday being a choice of two meals for brunch. Dinner is on your own! The dinner menu changes weekly and you have tons of choices. Lunch is offered and hot breakfast if you want. The only difference is that don't deliver to your apartment. But an enterprising resident has offered his services for a fee. But why bother with that? Besides, the walk will do you good! I may sound bias about the Carlton. Maybe so. But let me share some unbias opinions. My wife needed some in-home care with different PT's and OT's and visiting nurses. They visit a lot of similar facilities like Carlton. To a person, they have all commented on how nice the facility is and how great our apartment is. There is much more I could share about how friendly and helpful the staff are and how they respond to any issues quickly. I could share how accessible the Community Director, Terry is and how the maintenace department is always on the ball. I could share more but this review has gone on too long already. I recently moved my disabled brother from an apartment complex in Walnut Creek, CA to the Carlton in Concord, CA. We are so very grateful for the amazing welcome, the ease in expediting his move in process, the kindness and positivity of all the staff, the cleanliness, the safety features, the delicious food at the Bistro Restaurant and the wonderful activities and field trips! The property is so beautiful, the location is so safe, all the residents speak so highly of the Carlton, and there is a deep feeling of family. The Carlton has been a blessing for My Father-in Law. My husband and I wish we had found it sooner. He gets to live independently while still receiving in home healthcare and service. We know he is safe there. My Father-in-Law does not participate in the many Carlton Community activities but when my husband and I visit, I am so impressed with what is happing in the dinning area; bingo, live music, exercise class, current events discussions, you name it. I have searched all over the Bay Area for a retirement community for my mother who is still very much prefers her independence. It took me a week to find Carlton with assistance of Caring. Saw the place on Friday, loved the place and apartment and signed the lease right after the tour then moved mom in the next day. Mother-in-law lives here. Rats are eating her furniture but management will not do more than place a trap. Says her apartment is the only one that has them, although staff who access all areas of the property, says they are not limited to her apartment only. Property damage, Mother in-law has compromised heath issues like diabetes. Don't place your loved ones here. read more

After a thorough tour of the beautifully maintained facility, meeting friendly & caring staff, and numerous important questions answered by Natalie Earley, I decided this was the "perfect place" for my sisters to live and thrive! I love living here. I can be as social or as private as I wish. My doctor suggested an independnt living place as I have reached an age where I could use some help (93). I had a friend who lived here 15 ago and enjoyed it. It didn;t take long for me to decide to move to Carlton as the staff was incredible in their handling of my move-in. My parents relocated to Concord, CA in their late 80s but still wanted to live independently. We found Chateau on Broadway and it was a terrific fit for my folks. The staff are amazing and so friendly. Having the meal plan helped my parents get to know a number of the residents and good friendships developed. Peter, the director, and his staff have always been there for us when my parents have needed anything. Carlton Concord is everything I could hope for Mom! Peter, Arcel and the entire staff at Carlton in Concord are the most caring, compassionate people we've ever been blessed to work with. My Dad recently passed away and my Mom was terribly lonely in their home without him. Mom just moved into Carlton Concord and everyone has been so warm and welcoming. She has met others in her similar situation to share experiences and stories of their loved ones. The daily activities keep her busy and entertained.... From scenic drives, exercise classes, games, crafts, gardening, pizza parties, book club, writing classes to full day trip excursions, holiday parties, knitting club, grocery store trips, and even whiskey tasting! So many choices for everyone's interests and tastes. The accommodations are very clean and comfortable and her apartment was a perfect blank canvas to create a homey environment for this new chapter in Mom's life. Tasty breakfast and dinners are available Monday through Saturday and Sunday Brunch. But, Mom also has a full kitchen for those days she feels like cooking her favorites. It's a perfect combination.
