I decided that after a year of going to this hidden gem of a restaurant, I would do the right thing and share the place I love with others. I don't know what they put in the food at this place, but I have become addicted to it. First, the service is excellent, friendly and quick. They remembered my name and drink order on my second visit. Kind, nice people. The menu is good size and its not too expensive. But the food? Lets stop for a minute and discuss the food. At Carlos they make good honest comfort food. They serve breakfast all day, so if you like breakfast for lunch like I do, this is the place. Breakfast specialties include, french toast, eggs benedict, and good ole steak and eggs. From there its smothered pork chops, chef salads, roast beef hot shot, and some excellent soups. The burgers and club sandwiches are top notch too. If you sit at the counter, you can watch the cooks in the kitchen making your meal. Myself and my boyfriend decided to visit this diner since we had ordered from there before on DoorDash. Service was terrible. When we walked in no one greeted us, or anything. After standing looking for a waiter one girl walked right past us with no eye contact and said "Sit where ever you want"... Really? No hi my name is .... Nothing. Then we sit down and the same girl lays the menus on the table, still no eye contact or a greeting. It's funny how quickly her demeanor changes when we walked in the dinner. Just as we were walking in another woman was leaving and that waiter was all smiles and giggles saying goodbye but that completely disappeared when it came to waiting on us. Neat-less to say, we left before the drinks could be brought. I refuse to fund any establishment with rude customer service, especially one that is handling my food. We were nice and potentially paying customers who tip very well for good service but whatever, their loss not mine. We went to another diner in Winter Garden and enjoyed a nice breakfast with a pleasant waiter who got tipped well. Overall my advice is if you don't LOOK like everyone else in this diner, don't expect adequate service. read more

I used to go here a lot to eat, but it really has gone down hill recently. If you are not a local, don't expect to get waited on first. I have been passed by for service to give it to the locals several times. I used to go on the weekends to get the biscuit's, but the taste of the food and the service is bad now, I think Carlo's should let someone else cook and he should come out and interact with his customers. For lunch today I had a craving for the Turkey Club Sandwich, its something I guess they cant screw up. I got on the turnpike and headed to the diner. I tried to call my order in, but they put me on hold, it was only for 2 minutes, but they must have just put the phone on the counter because I could here everything that was going on while I waited on hold. I heard them wait on two customers while I listened and waited, then they hung up on me. I of course called back, and they put me on hold again, putting the phone on the counter for me to hear all the other customers getting waited on. I waited for 20 minutes, and then they hung up on me again. I called back a little concerned now and asked to speak with the manager/owner Carlos. I was told no he was to busy and they asked me to call back at 2. I told them I was just trying to get service and they said hold on and they proceeded to tell Carlos that I wanted to speak with him. Carlos said he was to busy and he would call me back after 2. The Dinner closes at 2, so basically I wasted my time driving on the turnpike to get to the dinner, wasted my time trying to get my Turkey club for lunch and really wasted my time trying to get any service from the wait staff and manager/owner CARLO'S. My suggestion stay away, plenty of other places to eat that would be happy to have your service during these trying time. read more

Home cooking just like my mom use to make. I ordered the roast beef, fries, and corn. Growing up my mom use to make Sahara roast beef. She always cooked it long enough to make sure it was always extremely well done and dry. It was also gray in color just like the roast beef here. Although, she didn't make much there was always left overs which we she would serve later in the week. She always made this dry package gravy that you add water to it just like the kind they make here. The corn was straight out of the can with no seasoning. My mom use to also served corn straight out of the can and placed it in the microwave to warm it. Except here they don't cook the can corn as long as my mom use to. The roast beef was more than I could take because it brought back memories and issues that I never resolved. Therefore, I had them make me scrambled eggs to take the place of the roast beef. The eggs were also just like how my mom use to make them. Over cooked! This experience reminded me when I learned how to cook when I was still a child. read more

I was recommended by a friend, and we have also moved into the area a year ago and always notice lots of cars there in the mornings and on weekends, so we tried it out this morning. From the moment I walked in Mediocre was the thought that came to mind. We walked in and stood there akwardly while nobody greeted us...I noticed a waitress cleaning a table, so knew that we would be able to sit down there...finally I flagged down a waitress and asked if we are to find our own seats..she said "yEah" and walked away....hmmm....almost wanted to walk out right then and there, but well, It was recommended so stayed. Since they take cash only I thought...hmm they must have great prices then ...but no can do...average breakfast price is about 6.50. which is ok, if the food is decent. we ordered our food and when my husband ordered he asked if he could substitute the sausage for bacon and it was an issue the waitress said no substitutions allowed, but she would try. ? hmm ? so they were nice enough to substitute the two pieces of sausage for one piece of bacon...perhaps we were being punished for ordering a substitution? When we received our meals, they were very unimpressive and the first thing I noticed was that my grits had a big dolop of margarine....Margarine is toxic...full of hydronated oils,...usually a breakfast place will give you a choice...and most often a good one will put real butter on there....so was unimpressed by that, but what was the final straw was when I tasted the worst biscuit I have ever tasted...or not tasted....it had no flavor...I gave out "samples" to my family members who also concured that the thing had no flavor...my son referred to it as a "dry cloud" up until today I have never had a biscuit I didn't like and could not finish ....wonder if they substitute the butter for crisco? flavorless! but the worst part...it had an aftertaste I couldn't get out of my mouth until I went home and brushed my teeth. Obviously this local place has many dedicated people who have unfortunately lost all their tastebuds in the process. I ordered a burger from their and paid 8$ I asked for medium rare...and it came to me well done. It was just a plain burger no good seasoning, nothing.
