Found Carlotta's online yesterday looking for Fried Fish locally. This establishment is approximately 12 minutes from house. It's a local dive bar. It's tucked away in a residential neighborhood. When I walked in it felt comfortable. The vibe was your family friendly neighborhood locals. I sat at the bar to place my order. I like the friendly relaxed vibe, pool tables a live Dj on a Tuesday evening was a nice touch. I ORDERD THE FRIES WHITING PLATTER My sides were Mac n cheese and string beans. I also order 2 single whole Fried wings and a side of sweet potatoes. The fish was crispy not salty nice portion. The flavor was good not salty or greasy or over cooked very pleasant to the taste buds! I like it very much The yams had a lot of nutmeg, it overpowered the actual sweet potatoe taste if you like that.. The string beans, Mac and wings were good I paid $42.00 for the platter 2 wings a side of sweets and 2 drinks. My money went a long way here. I really enjoyed the food. This is a must try !!! You won't be disappointed. You might actually find your self back a second time because it's just that kind of vibe!!! read more

Came here on a damn Wednesday and the DJ was SPINNING some good old skool music! What a vibe. It was an older grown and sexy vibe. I LOVED my bartender/server. I told her early in the night that I was driving so I wanted one drink only. And as the night went on, people kept asking to buy me drinks and she said nope, she's driving, no drinks for her! I love a girls girl!! Now on to this good ol southern cooking. LAWD HAVE MERCY! I felt like I was in my nana Alabama kitchen all over again. That whiting was finger-licking good. It was fried just right and the flavor was perfect. Them collards?! I couldn't even wait to get home to eat them with my bra off. They were DELICIOUS. I ordered from carletts yesterday. My usual go to spot. Usually they skimp on sides but yesterday they skipped on the entire meal. I ordered the fish platter with yams and greens. There were 3 little tiny pieces of fish. The 3 pieces actually added up to 1 bigger piece. There was a fork full of greens and a fork full of yams. That's all. First I just want to start by saying I enjoy this place. I've been here several times and have always loved the food and drinks. Even the older crowd is nice to be around. On Saturday October 10th I experienced discrimination. Not for being black but for who I love. Not once but twice. The first occurrence was by a patron of the establishment concerned with me using the woman's bathroom. The second occurrence involved the receipt. The waitress ,instead of labeling our table a number, labeled our table "dike". The waitress was addressed and could only use the phrase "i didn't know what else to put". She then apologized profusely. Still didn't feel sincere. Security addressed the situation after the waitress reached out to them. They assured us the situation would be handled. Unfortunately the next day I went to check my card and found that there was adjustment to to charge. The bill was 41.50 my card was charged with an adjustment for 49.30. This prompted a trip back to the bar Sunday morning at 11:30 am. The manager was addressed and we were given more assurance that the waitress would be disciplined. Not dismissed but disciplined. Not sure why this didn't happen at the end of her shift the previous night. We were also told there is no way the receipt or charge could be altered after the card is swiped. Explained they only take cash tip which I am familiar with. I was given a refund in cash for the "requested" amount of 41.50 and offered shots as a peace offering. Monday, columbus day, my card was adjusted back to the original "requested" charge. I wonder why. All in all that waitress needs to be dismissed or legal actions may be taken. It's already too much black on black gay hate. This needs to stop. This experience was hurtful. I find it difficult to want to patronize this business again. read more

I was back near my home town and looking for a decent place to kick back on a Saturday night even though I haven't been a bar/club person in many years. Nice atmosphere for the over 35/40 crowd. I literally passed this place hundreds of times going over the bridge and I never knew it existed until my little brother told me about it!!! I'm glad he did! Pros: We went during Happy Hour. Good Drinks and a chill, neighborhood vibe. You could see the menu via a QR code which is much better than staring at the walls for the menu. Everything is made fresh. My Fried Chicken Wings were HUGGGEEE! Nice, hot, crispy, and well-seasoned. A lot of places around here need to take a couple of chicken lessons from this place! (Like Mr. Wings a couple of blocks away) but you didn't hear it from me!) My brother got a fish platter with veggies. The portions were huge! We ate and after 2 of their Long Island Iced Teas, I was like I love this place!!! They have Karaoke and always have a DJ going. Cons: The parking is tight. They do have a parking lot, but it fills up quickly, . You can park on the street, however, if the parking area is filled up, that means the inside is full. They aren't that big, just like a neighborhood bar. The only other con I have is a personal one. I'm short (5'3") and a beautiful BBW, so It was hard for me to try and hop up on one of the tall stools to sit on. All of the seats were full at the bar, so I just stood up. The Verdict? I LOVE IT! The first time I came I had the Hideaway Fries and a friend had the chicken wings. The cooks know what they are doing. Another time I enjoyed the $1 shrimps. Okay let's try this again. Security is awesome. They are gentlemen and always speak. They have signs to deter a particular crowd. It appears as if they prefer mature individuals which is a PLUS for me and makes the environment feel safe. Bartenders are very nice as well. There is one girl who screamed at me and hung the phone up on me over an order she failed to confirm. Extremely rude. Never experienced that kind of treatment from a waitress in my life! Took 2 stars off based on her poor attitude. All the other times though, the other younger ladies are always very nice. Like super nice. Lots of places have the word "Hideaway" in their name, but very few live up to the claim. Carlette's Hideaway is HIDDEN when I tell you. It can be found down in the cut by the Yeadon Train Station and, partly because of that, Carlette's reminds me very much of my two all-time favorite bars: the old Delmar Lounge and Scotty's (and I actually found pictures of friends from those bars on the wall here). It is an absolute destination bar, full of warm wood and friendly bartenders, delicious food and affordable drinks. And a lovely pool table (although some complain the felt is slow, I love it). Four of my favorite things about this bar: #1- they have "vintage" baseball cards -- like Ron Grant and Marquis Grissom-- laquered onto the ledge running around the back of the bar by the pool tables (see photos-- I forgot to take any of the actual bar though I will one day, i promise-- it's hard because it's always crowded :/) #2- No one under 30 allowed. I've seen them throw out girls who looked like video vixens because they were too young. #3- No rap music allowed. They literally shut off the juke box if you play something. It is a bar full of non-stop soul, r&b, motown and funk, all day every day. #4- Delicious chicken, delicious mussells, banging french fries. All affordable & served super-fast. The bar is a good 30-foot long, narrow oval, and there is not a lot of room to stand behind the barstools. The front of the bar has a card table (for cards, dominos, etc.) and the back of the bar has a clearing for a dj and a pool table. The bathrooms are large and clean. I don't find myself out this way often (I prefer to drink places I can walk/bus home from), but Carlette's Hideaway is definitely a spot I could get lost in for an afternoon, evening (or, let's be honest here, all day).... read more

Always fresh, well seasoned and tasty, glad to have them whenever I'm craving fried shrimp, the Mac and cheese is pretty good too. I also tried the salmon fried rice, it was a tad oily for me, and the crab fries were good. I've had them more than once I think they may have different cooks because it did taste different but overall solid. read more

This place sometimes have jumbo shrimp for $1 dollar or $2 dollar. The drinks are popping and big screen TVs all around the bar they also have a pool table. Only downfall to this bar is the they don't have a lot of parking space. And you have to spend $20.00 if you have credit card. On one night I was their and all the lights went out and you couldn't see nothing and all the cash registers the music stop. And it was so proud of and nowhere to go so they locked all the doors and we were stuck in there until they figure out how to turn the lights back on. I was happy to see that they were open despite the pandemic. The food was delicious, and the service was great. I wait about 15-20 minutes before I was instructed to come pick up my order. I was invited to Carlettes by a friend of mine. I was a little hesitant because 1. I don't go to bars and 2. It was very far from where I live. Well, to my surprise I'm happy that I decided to take the drive. The atmosphere was warm and very inviting. Not what I was expecting from a bar. Everyone was very friendly and I personally enjoyed the older crowd. There was a pool tournament going on so it was a pretty nice crowd. Considering the fact that I was not from the area and only knew my girlfriend that I met there, I felt like I grew up in the area and was being welcomed home. Everyone was very friendly, the food was great and the music was jumping. If you just want to hang out, listen to some good music and meet some great people visit Carlette's Hideaway it's definitely worth the trip. read more

The clientele has changed and they do play Rap music the food is overpriced and no longer eatable. They advertise drink specials that the staff has no idea of what they are. Often the owners show up well after an event has started with the promised goods such as food or entertainment. The drinks are pricey and weak. Todd, Carla, and a blonde Jafae (sp) are the only staffers that can work the bar the rest are slow or unaware. This place has changed too much for me. Patronized three times. The short, darkskin bartender is the best. She can tend the whole bar with no problem. I was there on 6/6 and the male bartender was drinking with his friends and myself and a few others kept trying to get a drink. I finally got his attention, while I was at the smoothie machine and he said I was not on his side of the bar so he couldn't help me. The other girl, Nish,also kept taking shots and drinking with friends, ignored us and only seemed to tend to her faves. She was loud and drunk. She told us to "wait one sec" a few times, poured herself and a male friend a drink, sat and drank with him and then left the bar and went outside. Came back in, counted her drawer and continued to ignore us. It was sad. The owner needs to watch the footage from that night and get new bartenders. They were both doing everything but their jobs.
