I was looking for a place where I could meet and dance with some mature people. I was pleasantly surprised to find the Crab Tavern. This is a great old school hangout. The music played here is classic R&B. I was hoping to Detroit Urban Ballroom or Chicago Style Steppin here. I quickly found out that Philly is Bopping Country. (I don't Bop. But I think I can catch on quickly with a lesson or two). Needless to say, I did not get my dance on. I was there on a Friday night. The place was packed (wall to wall with dancers). On May 6, 2026, I entered The Crab Tavern for legitimate professional and community‑based purposes. What followed was a disturbing display of aggression, negligence, and unlawful conduct by both staff and management. Conduct of Shauna (Line Dance Instructor) Upon my arrival, Shauna, the line dance instructor, launched into an unprovoked verbal assault, screaming profanities in full view of the establishment's Security Guard. She then placed her hands on me--constituting battery under Pennsylvania law. This was not an isolated incident. It was the culmination of months of malicious gossip, defamation, and targeted hostility that management chose to ignore. Management & Ownership Failures Instead of protecting a senior citizen and neutralizing the aggressor, Manager Jackie and Dr. Pamela Renee Smith escalated the harm: - Hostility & Bias -- They immediately adopted Shauna's false narrative and treated me with open disrespect and presumption of guilt. - False Imprisonment -- I was forcibly escorted to a back room and detained against my will for approximately 20 minutes, without cause, consent, or legal justification. - Obstruction -- Jackie refused to speak to the Security Guard, the only neutral eyewitness who saw Shauna initiate the aggression. - Defamation -- On May 10, Dr. Smith falsely accused me of being "drunk and high," a reckless and baseless statement that contradicts my verified sobriety, professional standing, and decades‑long reputation in publishing and community advocacy. Their conduct was not only unprofessional--it was legally actionable. Final Word The Crab Tavern's owners are vicariously liable for the battery, false imprisonment, defamation, and trade libel committed by their staff. No establishment should be permitted to harass, detain, or endanger a senior citizen--especially one present for legitimate professional and community‑based work. I have filed a formal complaint in Magisterial District Court 32‑2‑37, seeking $12,000 per defendant. And to be clear: other than this incident, the food is great and the customers are chill. One of the best ole' head spots I've been too! Everyone here is real cool. From the bartenders, the kitchen staff and even the patrons. Everybody is there with the same intentions... to have a good, drama-free time. Went with a friend and she loved it! People were so friendly and the men, were actual old school gentlemen as soon as we entered a few offered up their seats at the bar (mainly cause the guy wanted my friends number...lol). We ordered food from the kitchen. My whiting was good, the fries were meh. My friend got the chicken fingers, which she liked, but the mac&cheese was terrible... But for bar food, it was inexpensive and helped soak up the alcohol! The bartender made Ciroc punches ($12) and they were sooooo strong we had to cut them with seltzer water! Nice local dive bar. All kind of people are there young old black white you name it. You can learn to dance the bop or line dancing. If you are lucky you can catch a band playing. The drinks are fairly served and priced. It's a working neighborhood bar. So it's good for happy hour if you work or live nearby then it's party time Friday and Saturday. read more
