After making several trips we ended up having the buy accessories from them in addition to renting the mic to make it work. They made it clear they only want to work with professional musicians. Only problems I had were that a) he doesn't take credit cards (luckily the bank is right around the corner, so not an issue) and b) it took a while to find the door to his shop the first time around. It's very inconspicuous, and I walked right past the door several times before I finally found it.
