Result: see photos. I showed the result to someone else who is a fashion expert. I will not post their response here, suffice it to say they confirmed my suspicion of poor quality.

He fitted me well, then subcontracted the dresses to a woman who did the sort of job I would have done in a hurry (seams folded over, not cut and sewn, etc.). I was appalled. CJ was amazing! She did exactly what I needed at the same price I had paid for the bad job (and way less than the alternatives). I then asked her to alter my husband's slacks and jacket. Again, a beautiful job. Don't be put off by the fact that she is located in a house downtown (or that she has a room full of fabric). Her work is excellent and prices reasonable -- and she has a great temperament.

I'll tell you right away this place is great. If you need more proof, check Yelp's filtered…read morereviews. I tried a few tailors/alterers in Ithaca and none wowed me, until I met Cathy. She's going to be direct with you about what can and can't be done and how long it's going to take, but she and her family at Hage Tailor will follow through with their promises and make you happy at a good price. Now I've had three suits and six jackets fitted -- some in need of serious alterations -- and I regularly get compliments on how well they fit. I prefer a bit of a shorter cut on the jackets than Cathy does but she performs as a professional and alters them beautifully. The fact that I can also get excellent dry cleaning at the same place is a terrific bonus! I'm officially a huge fan and highly recommend Hage Tailors to all of my friends.

I'm a 29yo, 5'7" male and pretty skinny, so even slim fit clothes are often a little baggy. After a particularly frustrating shopping trip I ended up searching on yelp and found Joanne. Not realizing she un-crisscross the straps till after I got home to try it on with my shoes. That when I realized the straps weren't criss-cross. When I pointed out the mistake, she told me, "We cannot undo what has been done." Also, when I went to show the dress to the bride to see if what was done would be okay, the zipper in the back split. The job was done so poorly that the dress became completely unwearable. I ended up having to order a brand-new dress because of the damage. When I told her I had to order a new dress I reached out to see if she would consider a refund. Her response was, "I'm sorry but I don't issue refunds . It took me time to do those alterations and I deserve to have my time be paid for" This was not only dismissive but incredibly unprofessional. I was left with a ruined dress, wasted money, and zero accountability from the business.
