Katarina took in the bodice of my gown, and made a few other adjustments, all of which came out beautifully. She was kind and communicative, and very timely. I was worried that I had waited to long to find someone to alter the gown and that I was cutting it close on time, but Katarina was unphased and fit me in promptly. 2 weeks later, I was able to pick up my dress. She takes check or cash at pick-up, so come prepared. And do tip! Highly recommend! read more

I had a horrible experience. When I went in to try the dress after the alterations the hem was uneven and the top was altered incorrectly. She tried to fix it but it never turned out quite right. I paid hundreds of dollars for a dress alteration I was never happy with. She was not very kind about the changes or concerns and she made me feel terrible for even bringing any concerns up. The whole experience left me feeling awful and very uncomfortable. read more

I had to have my bridesmaid's dress let out a size and she did a nice job. She is very straightforward about "not gaining weight" which could come off as shaming, but again it is just being straightforward. She accommodated that and hemming within three weeks of my event and had me come in stages to make sure to get it the way I needed. I would definitely return. The only reason for not giving five stars is it is a little pricey, but worth it. read more

Absolutely amazing seamstress! Kateryna saved my wedding dress from the disastrous mistakes a 'top NYC tailor' made. I had lost hope and thought my dress was unsalvageable. The previous tailor said there was nothing I could do in regards to the completely oversized bodice since the pattern was so intricate and there was so much lace involved. A week and half before my wedding, I decided to give Kateryna a chance after reading the other good reviews, and will never regret it!!! She absolutely blows the 'high end NYC tailors' away!! She was able to completely redo the bodice of my dress AND add other features that the other tailor refused to do!! It was honestly an absolute miracle on how good the dress came out to be. Kateryna is a complete professional and saved my dress AND day from ruin! Knowing that my wedding day was so close, I know she had to work fast but I could tell she did not let a single detail slip by. I highly recommend taking your dress here. The altering of my top wasn't done correctly the first time, though I'd given her over a month. Instead of apologizing, I was body-shamed. Excuses were made. When I mentioned the high price she was charging me (about 2-3 times as high as I've paid in NYC where I used to live), she told me I should take my top somewhere else. She also seemed kind of racist. Two weeks later, I came back and the top mostly fit. I felt really uncomfortable around this woman and don't want to go back. read more

I went to K's Custom Gowns to get my wedding dress fitted at the last minute (a month before my wedding) and Kateryna turned it around in 3 weeks and did a wonderful job! The dress was really big so it had to be taken in a LOT but she made it fit beautifully. I had a 100% silk gown by Cynthia Steffe that I wanted let out. The seamstress here is absolutely amazing. Her attention to detail was like none other. She found the perfect material that would blend in with the silk. However, it also allowed for a little bit of stretch, which is just what I asked for. She understood exactly what I wanted and delivered. I would definitely recommend this place, especially for gowns or cocktail dresses. read more

Not a great experience when I went - I wanted to get an estimate for a dress that needed to be altered, and it was complicated to explain what needed to be done. She wouldn't let me go try on so I could show her... Instead she told me it would be around $100 total. Took it somewhere else, they had me try it on and told me $15. read more

I had a bad experience here when I went to get my dress tailored. I had an appointment, but when I arrived they were very rude to me. Without saying hello or asking who I was she just said "do you want an estimation first?" When I said an estimation would be good, she aggressively opened the bag the dress was in and started telling me how much it would cost to do sides, back, etc. I asked if I could try the dress on, and she basically said that she didn't have the time unless I was sure I'd pay whatever they asked. Their prices actually sounded reasonable, and I'd be fine with it if they have a policy where you have to pay something to try the dress on first, but she was so pushy and unfriendly that I left. read more

I've brought two dresses to Kateryna in the past year. One is a vintage pleated dress that needed the lining replaced, the other a vintage sheath dress that I wanted to alter into a sleeveless dress. The workmanship on both dresses was superb. K's attention to detail, coupled with her training and knowledge of fabrics and sewing techniques is top notch. I have had bad experiences with clothing alterations (in particular, complicated gowns) in the past, and this was the opposite of that. Kateryna was extremely efficient and kind. I needed to get a bridesmaid dress altered (the straps shortened, the bodice narrowed) within a timeframe of about two weeks. I scheduled an appointment over the phone, went in, changed into the dress; she took measurements for a minute or two, gave me a business card on which she wrote the pick-up time and a reasonable price, and I left. Then when I came back, I changed into the dress, confirmed it fit great, and that was it! Not including driving time, I spent literally 10 minutes or less on this debacle in total, because of Kateryna. It was a totally painless process. Also, the wall of her clothing changing area is plastered in thank-you notes and pictures of beautiful brides in their altered dresses. She is clearly very skilled, and she also seems like a very genuine, straightforward person. read more

Very horrible over the phone. I was asking the standard questions like how much would it cost, how many days turnover etc. When she rudely hung up on me! Thinking it was a mistake I called back and asked when was their closing time so I could come over with the dress she again was very rude and aggressive and told me she was to busy to answer such questions and hung up again. terrible phone etiquette and an unpleasant person all round will be taking my business elsewhere read more

I wanted to get my grandmother's 60+ year old wedding dress tailored to fit me for my wedding. I was extremely nervous about taking the dress to just anyone (what would I do if they ruined it???). The dress was a little too small. I took it to Kateryna based on her reviews and I am so happy that I did! Kateryna took her time with me and was very understanding of the importance of the dress. Since I had plenty of time before the wedding, I came back a few weeks later to try the dress on again. It still didn't quite fit (she decided to be a bit conservative and just let the seams out). I came back a few weeks later and the dress fit like a glove! She somehow worked her magic and put in panels using the material from the dress (which is 100% lace, by the way). I couldn't even tell that anything had been altered! The dress looked amazing on my wedding day and my family could not believe how perfectly it fit. Grandma would be proud! I would not hesitate to use Kateryna to tailor my clothes in the future! read more

Katerina did an amazing job with my wedding dress! I am very petite, and my dress was long, fitted, lace overlay with satin underneath. I had had alterations done before, but the bustle was not off of the ground enough to not step on it and the bodice did not fit correctly. I took it to Katerina, with less than a month before my wedding, and she fixed everything! She even offered to do little things to make it fit even better and to stay in place during the wedding that the "professional" at the Vidal store did not. I could not have been happier with K's work on my wedding gown. I purchased a strapless dress, but wanted a halter shape and full back designed for the dress made of chiffon with a silk backing and K created exactly what I wanted, just by my descriptions. When my now sister in law was getting married, K was able to fix a strap that was sewed on twisted by another seamstress in Syracuse the day before the wedding! She was a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend this business! read more

I just wanted the sleeves on a dress shortened a couple inches, but then I came back to try it on, and she shortened it about 10-12 inches - beyond repair. She told me she had her daughter try on my dress and they decided on different measurements than we had agreed on - never heard of anything so unprofessional. Very expensive dress, ruined. The tailoring job was also very poor, chunky, and bulky seams. Very disappointed. read more

I took a bra for Katerina to alter, and it was not a great experience. To begin with, she was fairly unfriendly, and charged me 5 extra dollars, on top of the labor cost, for finding the replacement strap. Fair enough, maybe that's really necessary. Then she said it would be done by a particular date, and when I went by on that date she hadn't begun sewing. That worked out well however, as she'd chosen a strap color that didn't match the original strap color (the bra straps were black, she had chosen white), so I'm glad I came by in time to see that! I pointed out the color differential, and she said she would find black straps. When I finally got back to pick up the bra, she had indeed sewn on black straps, but the adjustable bits were in the front! Which looks rather silly. However, I also thought that her sewing looked a bit heavy handed, and I was worried that taking it all out and re-doing the straps would really mess up the fabric material, so I cut my losses and had took the bra as was, rather than have her put the straps on properly. So now I have bra, very late, with backwards straps, and potentially not the best sewing. Cost, $20, which I thought was a bit steep, especially considering all the mistakes. On top of that, she told me very sternly, as I left, not to bring her any such troublesome types of garments again, as she is very busy and doesn't have the time! No worries, I definitely won't be bringing her anything again. read more
