I do not have a lot of experience buying fine jewelry (nor the money to do so generally), and my palpable ignorance in this area often results in my sticking out like a sore thumb in many jewelry stores. I feel exceptionally vulnerable in these environments, particularly if the staff make it clear that I am not their typical or ideal clientele. But happily, I left our locally owned Mansour today with a beautiful purchase within my budget after being treated with respect, warmth, and dignity. The young woman at the counter was so kind (and wore an enviable bedazzled mask), and took her time helping me find a piece that was special while still within my price range. She made me feel genuinely welcomed and relaxed. The gentleman who popped by a few times was distinctly knowledgeable about diamonds and their faux counterparts, and was able to help me decipher prices and quality. I am so grateful for their gracious assistance, and will be thrilled to recommend Mansour in the future. read more

First of all, I have to say this was probably the best service I've ever received from a non-corporate jewelry store. The gentleman at the counter who greeted me at the door was friendly, kind and attentive. I went to get a ring re-sized. It is one of those open back ones, silver, in the shape of a feather and I didn't want to squeeze it to fit by myself because it might lose the round-shape. Given, it wasn't the most difficult job, and it wasn't like he was dealing with a several thousand-dollar piece of jewelry, but he handled it almost as if it were. When he refitted it, he was careful but fast. I could tell that he was experienced and knowledgeable. Then he handed it back, made a few adjustments...and voila! I was out of there in five minutes. And the best part? Because the job was so simple, he didn't even charge me when he easily could have. I had a wonderful experience and I will definitely be back. The only small complaint I would have is that there weren't any hours posted by the door. I had tried to go here last weekend, but I didn't realize they were closed. I should have known, though, given that it's Ithaca and it was a Sunday, so I still give Mansour 5 stars! read more

The customer service here is the best! Everyone was attentive and friendly. David the owner is extremely knowledgeable and we felt as though he knew every ring in the store. Within a short time he had a couple of wedding bands picked out that went really well with my engagement ring. I chose from the selection and I am very satisfied. I also had my engagement re-sized and he did a great job with it. My fiance ended up picking out a hammered ring and David did the work right in the shop. read more

Really mixed feelings on this store. I've taken small things in for repairs that were done quickly and at very reasonable prices. But most recently I brought in my mother's wedding ring to be sized down for my hand. It's an infinity ring and I was told it could be brought down in size while keeping the stones evenly spaced. But sadly, when I got it back it was too small and it's now misshapen, stretched out, and the stones are unevenly spaced. I'm kind of heartbroken since it was my mother's ring and since she has passed I wanted it to wear it happily. But now I feel like it's mangled and lost much of its beauty. read more

But my latest experience with them has convinced me that there is something special going on there with customers. They are truly kind people who learned long ago, I would think, that you want to make someone a customer for life. Went in with something specific in mind, they showed me what they had on the floor, then took me in the back to look through all their catalogs with me, even pulled up items on their supplier's website to help me. They offered to order the item I wanted for a very quick arrival (3 days) at holiday time. They never once talked about their markup or bothered me about shipping costs. Very personable and helpful. My recent second visit to Mansour's only reinforced my first impression that David, the owner, is truly a kind and caring man who gives his customers his best. I first took in a broken gold necklace and a ring that needed resizing along with some broken gold jewelry. He gave me a fair estimate for all work as well as money back for the gold. At that time, too, he valued a vintage gold bracelet, free of charge. On my second visit, I took in my father's vintage watch to see if it could be repaired for a birthday gift for my son. He did the repair right there, polished up the casing and added a new band, all with caring and compassion, and seemed very pleased to see ME so happy! He's got my future business! read more

I came here to get a ring resized and I wasn't sure how much smaller to make it. After the work was done, I realized it was too big and needed to be resized again. The owner was very annoyed/angry by this and made me feel silly for not knowing what size I wanted from the beginning. I brought my one of a kind vintage 1940's engagement ring here to be sized, based on a friend's recommendation. It was not done right the first time, and I had to leave it again to be fixed. It was, but at additional cost. A few months later, the stone fell out of the setting, and again I brought it to Mansours since they knew the piece. Without consulting with me at all, or asking permission, the owner (in my opinion, hastily and clumsily) added gold all around the setting, completely obscuring the detail on the original setting and sloppily raising the sides of the setting, completely changing the look of my one of a kind piece. It looks messy, poorly done, and it ruined the ring as it was. Needless to say I was devastated and appalled that this was done without permission. When I went in to talk to the owner and tell him how upset and appalled I was, he condescendingly dismissed me and regarding the covered-up original detail said, "I don't even know what you're talking about", and walked away from me. I even showed him a before and after photo to jog his memory. His lack of professionalism, lack of compassion, and utter disregard for the importance of this sentimental piece is appalling. He refused to even listen to me, walking away and dismissing me immediately. I now am the owner of a ruined vintage ring. I can never get that back. I will never, ever give them my business again, and I will be sure to discourage others as well. read more

Mansour was recommended to me by my boss at the time. I went there to have my white gold engagement ring rhodium plated, because it was becoming yellow (it's 9 years old, so that is a normal process). When I showed it to the man who I believe to be the owner, he said the prongs on my ring were too worn, and I needed to have the whole setting replaced. Ok, I went with it since my boss told me he was great. He quoted me a price (for the rhodium plating and replacing the setting), and told me the day I could pick it up. When I came back for it, he charged me the price he quoted, however he had not done the rhodium plating, saying all it needed was to be polished. I felt ripped off, but after not having my ring for a few days, I didn't want to insist he keep it and do the rhodium, because by then, I really wanted my ring back. In the next few days, I started realizing that the prongs were unusually high and pointy, because they kept snagging on everything. A few weeks later, I moved away from Ithaca, and now one of my new prongs is already bent due to the snagging. I'm very disappointed, and since I don't live in Ithaca anymore, I can't even bring it back to get it fixed, not that I necessarily would after that experience. read more
