This was our second time in nine years to visit Valemount and again the Caribou Grill didn't disappoint. The space is gorgeous inside and the servers are very attentive and friendly. Valemont is a tiny little town hiding a delightful gem of a restaurant. The menu selection is limited which is fine because what they do offer they do an amazing job at. I ordered the 6oz steak (they gave me a 9oz) and it was one of the best steaks I've had in a very long time! I ordered it blue/rare and it actually came that way! I didn't want any sides, and they knocked seven dollars off my bill. I didn't expect that but I sure wasn't complaining. I would eat here again in a heartbeat, but a shame it's far away. What better location for a meal on the doorstep of the Canadian Rockies than a genuine log cabin? Walking out of the snow I was immediately struck by the scale of the building, which was built by the owners in the late '90s. A single large open space, topped by a central beam made from two tree trunks joined end-to-end, we estimated that something like 60 or more trees must have gone into building it. The decor is classic mountain chalet - mounted deer skulls with their enormous antlers, Aboriginal crafts and plaster casts of bear pawprints. Coming from the Lower Mainland, it is nice to dine somewhere land is not at a premium - the large comfortable chairs and spacious layout is a welcome contrast to the crowded restaurant environment I'm used to. The menu is pretty standard mountain fare, meat, vegetables and soups and our meals were all tasty and well prepared. The kids were very well catered for, with roast beef and fries making an appearance on their menu along with the more traditional grilled cheese and chicken fingers. The boys thought it was the best restaurant meal ever, so they deserve 4 stars just for that. I had a home made seafood chowder which was hearty without being too rich. My main course was a ribeye steak - not the best I've ever had, but still tasty and tender. My wife had the highly recommended Prime Rib and was not disappointed. So all in all, Caribou Grill gets 4 stars, mainly for the setting. It's a real experience and an unexpected pleasure in a town otherwise distinguished only by the ratio of motels to permanent residents. Oh, and the amazing mountain location. read more

I ordered the prime rib and shrimp special. It came with a soup or salad to start, so I chose the seafood chowder. It was delicious, had a hint of nutmeg which was nice. The prime rib came out medium, I would have preferred medium rare. Was flavourful. Came with onions, mushrooms, and a baked potato. The shrimp were breaded and deep fried. The food tasted fresh and delicious. I ordered the house Merlot which was delicious as well The service was very friendly. Considering how many tables there were it would have been nice if the server was more attentive, but regardless, that didn't affect my overall experience that negatively. Her friendliness made up for it. I still have her 25% I wasn't thrilled with the price. Although I am very cheap. But I know I can get prime rib and crab at the keg for the same price and it's Fantastic there. When your getting a nice piece of meat surf n turf though, you should expect to be paying a pretty price, especially due to its isolated location. Overall experience was great, I'll definitely go back next time I'm spending the night in valemount. read more

Can never imagine would need to wait 30 mins for a table in a small town. Is our last evening in the mountain so we decide to wait and have a nice dinner. The restaurant is decorated as a country lodge, lots of fun stuff to see. My husband ordered the steak with carbonara and I had the sea food linguini. Totally delicious. The seafood chowder is not too bad, I only wish the cheese bread is warmed up. We shared a Real Brew root beer, so glad we shared, it taste sweeter than a regular root beer, too much sugar for me. read more

Excellent restaurant. It was recommended by a college as the place to eat dinner while I was in town. I had the Tofu Teriyaki Steak which was great. My server was extremely knowledgeable in not only the menu but also how different items would be prepared in different ways. Definitely worth eating here. read more

Very good food. Busy place, long cue, waited at least 30 minutes. I ordered the grill prime rib roast, the beef is excellent and the service is good. Price of $26.00 is reasonable and acceptable for the quality of the beef. Beware that parking is a challenge and reservation is recommended. I give this venue a 4/5 and is probably the best restaurant in Valemount, if you are on your way to Jasper. It is a restful break. read more

It wasn't great food, nice ambiance but the fries are clearly frozen and not homemade the meat is ok but the vegetarian options are disappointing, I personally had the teriyaki tofu, it was plain, dull and the spinach were disgusting. The mashed potatoes are good but not in my meal, too bad .. We chose the brownie and caramel explosion, it was whipped cream and ice cream with a few bits of brownies and caramel sirup on top, disappointing too. But the service was great ! The Caribou Grill is *the* place in town for a nice meal. When I first walked in, I was kind of astounded by the size of this place--it's huge! After I was seated, I realized that this place was basically a giant log cabin with dead animal heads hanging on the walls and all. "kitschy" would be the right word for this place, although I totally soaked in the charm, as I don't encounter places like this in the city. They have a pretty extensive menu and are extremely knowledgeable and accommodating for gluten and dairy allergies. They even had vegetarian options and dairy-free ice cream! My meal was quite good. I had pork with apple sauce and brandy. I never knew apple sauce could make such a delicious dinner. The vegetables were fresh and cooked to perfection too. The waitress was super nice with a "say what's on her mind" personality. I overheard her telling some young guys about how much better small town life is than big city life. It was entertaining. If I ever come back to Valemount, I can't wait to come back here. It's just so different than anywhere I would normally go. It has a realness that you don't find at a lot of restaurants anymore. The first thing which made me stumble was that you are not able to find caribou on the menu of the Caribou Grill. Somehow I expected that. Once you digested that you find a really good New York Steak on the menu. The portions have the appropriate size (I hate big portions of which half ends up in the garbage afterwards) to satisfy you. If you do not like to get a cold from the air condition make sure that you get a seat far away from the walls. read more

We ordered the pork medallion with apple sauce. The apple sauce was delicious and you know it's made from scratch and not a jar. Pork was cooked to perfection, Everything was paired well. Stopped in Valemount, BC after exploring on Canada day. Asked the concierge at my hotel where was the best place to eat. He instantly replied "you have to try Caribou Grill, it's the best place in town!" My friend and I decided we would listen and went there for dinner, upon arriving we found Caribou Grill had quite a homey atmosphere, the staff were very courteous and welcoming. Our server, Andrew, was extremely friendly and helpful, answered our questions, made recommendations and was very prompt with getting our drink orders. The food... wow.. phenomenal, I ordered the venison, absolutely delicious, well flavoured, perfectly cooked (medium rare). This would have to be the best venison I've ever had, the portion size was perfect, the vegetable sides were very well cooked, nice and crunchy. Nice atmosphere but that is where it ended. Our hotel told us there were only two places in town to eat, a pub and the Caribou Grill. Said it was good food but expensive. So off we went to the Caribou Grill. The only part they got right was that it was expensive. After ordering we waited 50 minutes for our food. My daughters bacon fettuccine was bland and the bacon was the pre cooked paper thin kind from maple leaf. My husband's prime rib was boardering on cold and his mash potatoes were cold and bland. My steak came last 55 mins after I had ordered it and it was over cooked. The seafood fettuccine was just bland and gross. I did not send anything back as we were starving. read more

Great place to get a delicious meal with incredible service after driving through Jasper National Park. Was seated immediately when walked through the door. We were a party of six. Our server was very kind, positive and enthusiastic. Drinks were great, but food was the best. Each meal ordered at the table had very good flavor and portions were perfect to more than enough. Steaks were cooked to perfection, pasta was as well. The seafood chowder is a must, for they did not skimp on the amount of seafood in it. Again the flavor of the food was out of this world- great! Half way through our stay we had to call on her and ask for a water refill -- has never happened previously in any restaurant. When ask for recommendation and opinion the server threw in the very typical "everything is good" without actually recommending anything. Overall, not worth the price. The girl at the bar was super nice, greeted us and had this warm smile on all the time. On the contrary, our server didn't bother to put on a smile for us the whole time.
